I assumed this toll-free (inbound only) number for my insurance business - Clear Creek Insurance of Denver, CO effective as of July, 2013.  Please contact me at (720) 389-9001 should you receive a call from (877) 359-2220 so that I can investigate and report to the FTC.  Thank you.

I got the same email last night from the Charlotte CL.  However, I did click on the list (for s**** and giggles) it is the Basic Outlook test put out by Microsoft (same test is on the MS website) HOWEVER, each time a selection was made, it cleared the previous selection - not a very useful screening tool when only one answer can be submitted...

I too have received numerous emails asking for a credit reports right off the bat, that is the most absurd thing I've heard.  Companies who want to hire you, will run the background check they deem necessary (credit or not).

FYI, they are still on CL as J.H. Services.  Here is today's message:

HAHA... I got the same thing and I can only assume it was for an Administrative Assistant job for around St. Paul, MN. This was mine, and it was the same as the ones above:

Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our open position. My name is Linda Huffington and I am the Regional Hiring Manager for our company, Spherion.  We would like to start off by saying that your resume is very impressive. I must personally say that out of the several hundred resumes that we received, yours stands out the most.

Compared to previous hiring?s we?ve done in the past, we are paying the highest starting hourly/salary wage for new employees, so I'm sure you will have a fantastic time working with us. We would like to schedule an interview with you. Take note that we require all potential employees have a credit report on hand during the interview, since we take everything into review when employing anyone. We only ask for a credit report because we want to make sure you haven?t had any past employment issues with our company or affiliated companies.

You may either use your own accredited credit report company, or use one that we have previously used countless of times. The positive part of the company we use is that the credit report is given free of charge, unlike many other credit reporting companies that charge a fee. If you are interested in using the one I mentioned, then please proceed here.

Once you receive your credit report from the link provided, please email me back. I will personally schedule an interview for you within a day or two.

Thank you for your time, and congrats on becoming a candidate for our company.

Regards,

Linda Huffington

When they dont state your name and the position you applied for, that is a sure sign of a scam! Besides, I am fresh out of college and my resume is not all that impressive yet!

Hey Rob,

Was the ad about blogging for sports in the Orlando Gigs >Writing Gigs section? I think I replied to that one as well.

Oops. Sorry. Did not mean to include the actual links to the dating site which would ask for a card number and other information to write the review they are asking for. Sneaky. Lame variation on their other wack set-ups, like the credit report gimmick. SpherionHiring.com leads to a page parked on GoDaddy. There was NO Spherion Enterprises which was JUST Spherion Enterprises when I looked into it on google. There were Spherion Atlantic and Spherion Pacific. Craigslist can be okay if you want a used couch. It isn't so okay for employment opportunities.

The following is my email response from a craigslist listing for bloggers in Orlando, Florida.

Hello Rob,

Thank you for applying for one our Freelance Writing positions.  Due to an increase demand in writers we are looking to add more writers to our list of approved writers.  We typically work for companies who are looking to hire writers to write articles and short stories for their websites.

The pay ranges depending on the contract and the amount of work involved.  Our writers can expect upwards of $0.17 per word.

To qualify for this position we have a simple screening process where we require you to send us a short 300-400 word review of a current customers dating site, this can then be emailed to us and our review team will determine if your writing style is what our clients are looking for.

The dating site is here: http://www.tinieurl.co.cc/datingsite  simply fill out the short application form then take a look around the site and write a short review, this can include the theme, layout, style etc.  Write it as if you are an actual customer seeking a date or companionship.  What you like and dislike about it.

Once you have completed our initial assessment you will be added to our database where you can request the amount of work you require. You will be sent an email with the job requirement and deadline for the work as long as the work is completed on time and to a good standard we can supply you with constant writing assignments.

Email us your short review in .doc, .docx, .rtf or .pdf formats only. Our team will contact you with our decision within seven (7) days.

Here is the link again: http://www.tinieurl.co.cc/datingsite

Thanks for your interest, we look forward to working with you.

My resume "stood out" to them too.  I find that hilarious because my e-mail to them was asking for more info about the job and...I never attached my resume.

I got the same email for a craigslist job I had applied to.  I went straight to the source and called my local Spherion office.  I asked if they require a credit report to be brought to interviews.  Both the receptionist and a recruiter said they do NOT require a credit report to get an interview.  I think this "Spherion Enterprises" is a scam to get you to click on the link for their credit reporting company so they can capture your SSN.  You could use the government's freecreditreport.com site to get your own credit report, but then this Meghan Everson person won't call you back because they don't have any jobs for you.  They just want your SSN and credit card numbers.

I just got the same exact email.  I don't think my resume is that great, in fact I know it's not.  I used to work in the HR department of a large company - you don't have to have good credit to get a job nor do you have to be "interested in seeking continuing education" at some online University.  Keep in mind, it's somebody's full time job to create and send these emails.  I love Craigslist for anything but job opportunities because sometimes just clicking on a job posting opens the door to endless amounts of scam spam.  Can't wait for the day someone figures out how to prosecute these email varmin.  'Spherion' and 'Spherion Enterprises, LLC' are not the same company.

I knew it! I got a little suspicious when they said to submit a credit report. Bullfuckingshit! You're right, Tracy; legitimate companies can run their own credit reports!

I also responded to an ad on CraigsList and got exactly the same email response, about "yours stands out the most".  Any legitimate company can do their own credit check on you, without your help (scary, huh?), so if someone sends you an email asking you to do one yourself, DON'T FALL FOR IT.

This company just sent me the same email response as you all, about how my resume stands out.  * I didn't send them a resume. *  To run a credit report, they need your social security number and date of birth.  If you give them this, they are able to steal your identity and ruin your credit.

Megan.Everson@SpherionHiring.com  is the do***ebag who tried to scam me (poorly).

"Spherion" just sent me a message with that number listed to re-contact them. They said my resume "stands out the most" of several hundred. I am a recent High School graduate just entering the job market; even I don't think THAT much of my resume. Scam!

This phone number is listing job postings on Criagslist and when you apply, they ask you to get a credit report (they include a link) before you can get an interview.  They say they are Spherion Enterprises and I have worked for this company.  This is scam!
