I received a phone call from Steve Blake for Marc Poppy. I cannot call back because the #877-371-1954 is blocked from my area in Portland. I just haven't bothered to change my cell phone to a local number. I have no idea who either of these people are. I do not appreciate the obvious lack of professionalism-leaving a "you have been served" to a wrong number.

I received the same harrassing calls and they called my mother as well... I'm wondering how they even got my mother's number... Any who... As the above I received a call from son girl who stated this was in regards to "charges against me" and they wanted an updated address but I wouldn't give it so she gave me the 1-877-371-1954 to call and a case #( I knew this was a scam because I looked up this case # in my county and it there was no such case # against me) but I called the # anyway.  The man answered with "Mediation", no company name or anything.  I gave him the case # and he told me that this was in regards to US Bank and they were suing me for fraud on an advance I took out back in 2009 which was for $550.  Then he proceeds to tell me that with the interest, attorneys fees and court fees I now owe $1700!  I said no way. First, this advance did not accrue interest. Second, as a paralegel I know that court fees are not assessed until you actually go to court! Third, I was just recently in US Bank about this and they told me I only owed the $550 NICE TRY!  So I told him that I didn't have $1700 laying around to give him... He said let me see what my attorneys can do for you and placed me on hold.  When he got back on the phone he said that they offered to settle it for 50% payable by Feb 14th or I could do 3 monthly installments to pay off the balance.  I humored him and said that I could do the 50% balance by the 14th. He asked for a credit card and I told him that I didn't have one so he said that he couldn't set up a payment plan for this without it and that I would receive a court summons (they didn't even have my current address LOL) and good luck in court and hung up.  This left me baffled LOL
So this morning, I called US Bank myself and spoke to a rep in their recovery department and again I was informed that I only owe $550 and in order to not have this pursued further for collections I would need to make a payment on the acct within 30 days.
THESE CALLERS ARE TOTAL SCAMMERS!!!  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR INFORMATION.  IF YOU OWE A FINANCIAL INSTITUTION OR ANY OTHER CREDITOR, CONTACT THEM TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS

Debt Collector
A week ago this thread got another scary story in a run-on sentence from an "unknown" shill for extortionists posing as debt collectors.  It's one of their favorite tropes, the "I never shoulda ignored the phone calls and now I'm in big trouble". As usual the story doesn't actually match how things are done in civil court, which is where *ALL CONSUMER DEBT CLAIMS ARE HEARD* in America, including payday loans and old bank overdrafts.

Now that it's "a week out" we should stress here that there was no "court date" and no "hot check". Perhaps the shill could privately locate the federal and state laws his boss is ignoring.

Bankruptcy attorney here. One of my clients called me earlier today to say that her father had received a call from this number about one of her debts. The client called the number, the man answering the phone would not tell her who the creditor was. RED FLAG. A collector must tell you for whom they are collecting. I called the number and it was answered "Litigation, Jeremy speaking." I informed "Jeremy" that I was an attorney calling on behalf of one of my clients who was in an active bankruptcy. He transferred me to a voice mail for "Patrick Ford". I am beyond highly suspicious.

I got the same message (for someone else, not me) and the same feeling about this Scott Stevens dude (surely not his real name). He's trying to sound like Ice T and comes across as belligerent and threatening. What a dope! Since one can't serve a court summons over the phone, I think he makes the "you've been officially notified" comment to try and pretend it's the same thing. He clearly works for a bad-debt-buyer and is hoping debtors will succumb to his ridiculous thug-like tactics so he can make his commission.

I just got a call from Steve Blake, Private Locator. He was the definition of vague. Said he needed to serve me with legal documents but couldn't go into detail. Wouldn't say what company he was calling on behalf of, gave me a "case number" and this 877 number to call.

I say this is a scam... I'm a professional businessman and that's just not how it's done... freakin' amateurs!

I don't think so!  No one ever calls to warn someone they will be served.  Second, no one can file a suit and get the papers served within two hours.  Finally, "hot check" laws are covered under criminal statutes, not civil statutes --- so how on earth would the proceedings of a criminal hearing end up on someone's credit report?  Nice try at deceiving consumers!

Sure you did - and pigs fly.  IF this was real, papers could NOT be served in 2 hours.  AND giving YOU information instead of your brother is a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.  Back to the boiler room for you.  You failed shill 101.

I received a call for my brother to call this number, i gave him the info and he called and said he would not be paying this and go ahead and serve him the papers.  He was served 2 hours later and now has a court date to appear for some bad checks.  Depending on state check laws, as they differ from state to state, he can be forced to pay 3x the value of the check, court fines, late fees and interest.  He is regretting his decision, the firm was willing to settle this for 50% of the amount and now he could be forced to pay much more and have a judgement put on his credit.

Spoofing the local sheriff's Caller ID was one of the reasons Diana Mey took her extortionist collectors to court a few years back, winning a record high default judgment of over ten mil, which the weasels have thus far been outrunning. Imagine that, thug debt collectors dodging their bills.

http://www.dianamey.com

Anyway, consumer debt in America is *not* a criminal matter. Collectors don't get to whistle up police officers. Those who say otherwise want your fast payment for debts you never owed and/or cannot be proven. Lawful debt collection is a process, not an ambush, and you are due a chance at each stage to raise a dispute. Hopefully you'll find your thugs have a domestic address so you can extract your own pound(s) of lawsuit flesh.

They contacted me regarding my daughter.  Rude message stating there was a charges and a claim against her. This is a final notification. They did not get very far with either of us.  Tried to verify her Social Security number but alas, we are not that stupid.

I called "The Firm" back to ask what kind of a company is this?  The response, "we handle mediation for attorneys".  My response, remove my number from their database. Their response, they will turn it over to the attorneys.

DO NOT fall for this scam.

yeah I got a call from some investigator too. Said he was doing an investigation for some company and was asking me a bunch of questions. I told him I dont know what he is talking about and would not answer his questions. He gave me 877-371-1954 phone number and said to call them for details as he was not certain why this was taking place. I called them and they said the same thing. I am being investigated to see if I have any assets so they can possibly sue me. They said it was for some furniture that I rented from Aarons rent a center that I never returned. I moved to another state and was not able to get it back to them and now they want to sue me for this. I am trying to get my life back together and now this pops up. I told them I could make payments and they gave me 3 months to satisfy or they said they would pursue. Well hopefully I can get this taken care of in 3 months. Heh.

My husband said someone has been calling him leaving messages trying to reach me. They left this number on his voice mail. I called it back and they said I am being investigated as I may be being sued. I guess this is for a checking account that I still owed money on when it was closed. I didnt know they could come after me for this.

Some one just called me at my work and asked if my work had some sort of process for dropping off some paper work for me. I told them no and they said I could call 877-371-1954 in order to stop the process and maybe find out what is going on. I searched this number and this site is what came up.

Ok so I got my papers today. It was giving to my daughter when she was leaving for school. First, I thought they had to give them to me directly. Second, it clearly shows that they are coming after me for a loan I could not pay back 2 years ago. I was on un employment and just could not make ends meet at that time. i called them back and they said there is nothing they can do at this time as I have already received the forms for the investigation (what ever that means).

I just got a call from Steve Blake.  These people have called before and stated they needed to serve me with papers or they would expedite a warrant for my arrest.  I told them I would wait to hear from my local office.  About ten minutes later I get a call and the caller Id showed my local sheriffs office name and number.  The next morning I called that number and they said they had no idea what I was talking about and I should call the attorney generals office.  I did and as soon as I started telling her she finished the story.  She said it's just a scam that this company may have bought some old debt from someone and is trying to collect plus some additional.   Don't give them a dime!

I got a call from Scott Stevens today and he called back to back on my home and cell phone. He left messages that were rude and unprofessional and at the end of it he says, "You've been notified" Too funny, he sounds like a fake lawyer. Sue me, I'm not scared at all...

My husband got a call from some lady saying that they are sending someone to our house to delivere some documents but could not tell me what they were for. They gave me this number to call and I did and they said we are being investigated for a possible law suite. I guess they are coming after me for a checking account that I wrote some checks against. Is was a small check and I did not think they would come after since they closed my account.

I just received eight (8) calls in 6 minutes from an "Unavailable" number. The person on the other end has threatened to come to my house and serve me with something or other but he was vague on the details. Very rude and unprofessional. He gave me the 877-371-1954 number to call an attorney but gave no other details. Who the hell are these people ?

This number has been harrassing me for a couple of weeks.  They call repeatedly.  I answered once and explained that I was at work and could not talk and they called back 4 more times.  They have also been calling my daughter's cell phone and won't stop.  I am going to report them because they threaten lawsuits and will not stop calling at work.

Received a call from this 'business' from a very RUDE Scott Stevens who left a very firm but rude message for someone who doesn't live at this address (my brother). He ended the call with '.....you have been notified'.  Really?  My brother has never lived here, and I don't know how to get in touch with him (on purpose).

Called the number back and they simply answered it as 'Mediation'.  I told them what I wrote above and they said they would contact legal, but he was in trouble.
