The purpose of the card is secondary to the occupancy inspection that is taking place each time one is left at your door. These inspections are taking place in compliance with federal, state, and local laws. They are ordered because of the hundreds of thousand vacant properties across the country that can become a blight on the neighborhood and lower property values of surrounding homes if left unattended to. if you are late on your payment, in bankruptcy, going through any kind of modification, your property is considered "at risk",meaning at risk of becoming vacant, and subject to these inspections. The purpose of calling the number is to giver further verification of occupancy. If you look at the big picture...It makes total sense.

I got the same manilla envelope, except mine says "North Star", not "NStar" or "Nation Star".  I have no idea who North Star is, I have no mortgage with them, have never heard of them until today.  It HAS to be a scam of some sort.  The paper actually does not say mortgage on it anywhere, however, so I guess it is theoretically possible for it to be something else, but it has the same toll-free number printed on it.  

It is from the mortgage company and they will not stop till the mortgage is brought up to date.  If you do not own the home you need to contact the landlord because someone is not paying the mortgage.

We also received this tag on one of our properties located in Indian Rocks Beach Florida even though our property has a no solicitation sign.  Does anyone know how to report this company and to who?

I received one of these tags today as well.  Googled the number and it says it's connected with Nationstar.  Tag says "Important please call.......please be ready to give your account number".  Who exactly is leaving these tags is what I would like to know.

This may not be a scam. I received a notice today asking to call 877-372-0315. I'm behind on my mortgage and I've had several different people deliver notes on my door asking to call my mortgage servicer, which I did (because I want to know when the sheriff is going to be there to lock up my house).  I've also  had people take pictures of my house. Usually the same ones that leave the information. I received a letter last week stating that my mortgage servicer changed hands. This may be the new servicer.

Yesterday I received a Manila envelope marked "important information enclosed" in English and Spanish. Inside it asks you to call "morgage company" (misspelled) @ 877-372-0315. We called it and it's Nationstar mortgage. We call and we're on an eternal hold so we hang up. We are in the process of modifying our mortgage but not with nationstar . I was home the whole day - the "subcontractor" never knocked on the door. He/she must have army crawled to my front door bc if my dogs heard him/her the whole neighborhood would know we had company, and this individual would have left skid marks in my front lawn running away as fast as they could (3 English bulldogs unusually large for their breed) If a legit company wants to get a hold of you they call the contacts on file. They send letters via USPS, UPS, Fedex, etc. Businesses that use methods like nationstar are referred to as "scumbag companies".  I've forwarded the issue to our attorney. Even if you do business with this company, their methods of contact are unethical - don't let them them get away with violating your privacy by showing up at your house and harassing you. Even if they're cordial and give you an explanation it's still harassment. If there's a next time and I see him/her on our property I'm letting the dogs tell them they're not welcome.

We are receiving the same hang tags in Baltimore, MD.  I want it to stop because they keep leaving them at a house we have left due to a pending foreclosure and they sit there for days until I check in.  Its like a giant advertisement that the house is empty.  If anyone finds out how to stop it, please share.

I got called from this number 877-372-0316, asking for how much can you affordable pay each month and please give your routing number we can set it up.  I wasn't confortable with giving informations thru the phone, Told them to send e-mail.  I really don't know who there are......

This is from nationstar mortgage ccompany, not northstar,not nstar electric...nationstar mortgage. I got this because i am behind in payments...i called the number,it goes directly to  the automated phone system I always call. Its not a scam...just another way to get your attention and have you call. The guy dropping it off is just a courier,and if they take a pic of your house,its to proce to Nationstar that they did,in fact, deliver it to the xorrect property. If you dont have nationstar,id suggest you call your company and ask them whats up.

I have received sevral of these as well. Another one today. I have filed a complaint with FTC as well as CFPB. They have also taken pictures of my home as well as leave collection notices. The problem is, I DO NOT HAVE A MORTGAGE WITH THIS COMPANY and I have called on several occasions to verify that my information is not in their databse and they have confirmed this everytime I have called. I have even asked the representative if they can lead me to who is the local company dropping off the collection notices and they have all told me they do not know!!!

I got this also on my door this evening only thing is I had just called them this am!!!! They had nothing to say then why are they still hanging this on my door!!!!!#

This is a scam, I find it interesting so many Northstar employees are defending it. I am a tenant and see these all over many properties in my condo-subdivision there are mass marketing with these poor-a** delivery chumps getting pennies pre stop. They are the true victims. I have a garbage can for this crap.

It doesn't make sense that it would be from one's mortgage company. They would call you on your contact numbers first.

This guy came and took a picture of my house then left the notice with just a number and NStar and nothing else. Plus they keep calling me but not leaving a voicemail. It's a scam

Nstar means Nationstar.  They are a mortgage company.  If this is not your mortgage company then call your mortgage company because if could mean it was sold to Nationstar.  They ask for an account number so everyone will not call and get your information.

These people are sub contractors.. They are given a list of addresses and which bank to give as the envelop.  This is not a scam..  This is a way your mortgage company is wanting you to contact them.  Or to keep letting you know that you are late on your payments.  If you look at your Note of your mortgage it will tell you that the Mortgage company will make their presence if you are late on your payments.   Back to them dropping this off on a holiday, they are just doing their job.  They are not evicting you, not giving out your business..  Just dropping off the envelop it is up to you to call.  Pay your payment and guess what they will stop coming by.

1. "TEAR HERE AND INSERT CARD INTO ENVELOPE" - I HAVE NO CLUE IF THIS WAS MEANT TO THE TWIT WHO PUT THE NOTICE ON MY DOOR - OR FOR ME - BUT THERE WAS NO CARD INSIDE THE ENVELOPE AND THE REAL BONA - WAS THE PAPER SAID TEAR HERE - WTF - IS THAT LIKE ALICE IN WONDERLAND - EAT ME CAKES

2. ON THE PAPER AS WELL - HAD WRITTEN "N STAR" AND "877-372-0315" - NOT KNOWING WHO/WHAT "N STAR" IS - I GOOGLED "N STAR" AND "877-372-0315"

3. GOOGLE "N STAR" = www.nstar.com AND OTHER SITES REGADING ELECTRICITY

4. "877-372-0315" = BROUGHT ME HERE

5. IN ADDITION - ON THE PIECE OF PAPER IT STATED - "PLEASE BE READY TO GIVE YOUR ACCOUNT NUMBER"

You're right, it's NOT mail.  Therefore it is illegal to the flyer in a person's mailbox.

Hello.  This is not a scam..  This just means that you need to contact your mortgage company or your landlord.  This is information for you to call them.. That is why you are provided with their name and address..  The reason why it says have information ready because they are not going to just talk to anyone about your personal information on your loan.

Hello..  It is not mail..  just documentation asking you to call your mortgage company because you are late on your payments.  They work on all holidays because they are subcontractors that with the mortgage company.  They are just doing their job by delivering this.  So your best bet is to call you mortgage company and take care of your mortgage

All this means is that the mortgage company had not procesed all the paperwork on the short sale.  The person leaving the card is only doing what the mortgage company tells them to do.  She might get one more because it does take time to get everything settled..

IT means that you need to contact them and make arrangements on your mortgage..  Then you will stop getting them..  That is what I ended up having to do to get mine to stop.

Thank you for this information.. Alot of people on her try to scare you stating this is a fraud..  I know I am behind on my payments but wanted to make sure I was calling a correct number...
