Same as everyone else here,  They talk to the person who answers the phone, get information, name etc: they tell you that you are "already a client" that they are updating their information, then they get the "verification department" on to record you and they don't answer your questions during this recording about your "previous subscription" with them, they tell you "I don't have that acsess to that information".  You are completely confused and then the bill comes and you don't pay it because you don't know what it is for. Then the phone calls start and don't stop and you get your boss involved and they play a "recording" for him and tell him that your employee must have made a mistake and blame it on the employee and then tell you the "collections" company will be calling and then they want your attorney's name and they call your attorney who ends up hanging up on them because they won't provide information to back up their claim.  That is where we are right now with this scam.  I will talk to them anymore and I am reporting them to the BBB and anyone else who will listen.

Don't panick over this, They actually called our attorney and our attorney told him they needed to send him a copy of the recording and any back up paperwork they have to verify any correspondence.  This Micheal Kimber for the YPMedia said he wouldn't send him anythig and our attorney told him that the conversation was over then.  From what I understand here that they are just scamming people to get the money.  There is no real threat here.

I had the same expiernce you had,  they said we already had an account and they were updating our information.  During their verification  recording they stated that we were confirming information,  I had gquestions the fact that we were a previous customer.  She said she didn't have access to that information and quickly changed the subject we ended up getting a bill for 499.95 also and we are trying to fight it.  The information I have found here in this website has only helped us to confirm that they were scamming us.  They even went as far as getting the name of our attorney so they could call him.  They have been harrasing us since Oct. 2008.  We are not paying them anything.  I tired to get online to see this advertisement and I cannot get a link to the site.

Josh Ludder has called our company and claim charges as above.  My husband listened to his voice recording but it did not confirm any internet sales.  I handle all the advertising and he thought it was odd.  After several calls he was happy when he thought he did a good thing by getting them to reduce the amount to $400 so he paid it by credit card.  The credit card statement did not show "YP Media" but 'yellowpages.com' but we know it was the same phone number and I am having my credit card company investigate the transaction.  Since then they have called back and said we didn't pay, sent a faxed bill with NO address or information etc.  when I called 'Josh Yudder' and asked for more information he said it was against policy etc etc etc and that what I was reading on the internet could be fraudulent and 'anyone can write those things on line' yet the only info he would give me was a web site....red flag.  I asked for a sales person to call me so that I could understand what he was 'selling' me and he ran in circles.  I advised him that I will not pay except through my attorney- hopefully he will go away, however if it is 'legitamate' I guess I will eventually have some real paper work to look at then- no worries until then.  I also contacted a C/O from YPMedia Irvine Ca and they confirmed that this company out of New Jersey/New York is a fraud and that we did not have an account with them in CA.

I just read all of the comments and I am sorry to hear of all the problems.  Unfortunately, we have also been victims of this company.  I have noticed there are not comments from anyone in California.  We are in California and wonder if others are experiencing the same problems.  They said they were also renewing our print advertising.  This was very misleading to person who took the original call.  Now they are calling saying we are passed due on payment.  Of course we have never received a bill from them.  They are also evasive when I call from another number about what services they provide.  They also said today their server was down and they could not pull up my account.  I have spoke with a DUANE and STAN at 1-888-751-1247.  He had a hard time remembering their phone number when asked.  They are calling themselves the "Y Pages Group" and the website is www.ypageslive.com.  It was under construction and today I noticed it is up.  However, OUR BUSINESS IS NOT LISTED IN THE DIRECTORY, as they stated.  I hope there is no recourse on our credit.  Also our number is on the DO NOT CALL LIST.

Wow! I am reading everyones messages and can I just say Thank you! Im so glad the company I work for is not alone. Jonathan did the same thing to us. He replayed the conversation of my boss simply VERIFYING OUR ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. Its amazing "companies" can do this. However, if anyone has any info on how to deal with this please reply to my message. Thanks again. Oh and when the "collector" called he refused to give his I.D#, name, extension. All he said was "I WILL CALL YOU EVERYDAY TIL YOU PAY ME!"

This scam happened to our church office staff. The caller sold himself as the rep. for our print yellow pages add, then said the monthly bill was going to a yearly charge. He repeated over and over that this was our existing yellow pages account. Then the bill came $499. We tried to contact them to cacel but no one would return our email. The collections calls started. They are like a bull dog! They have tapes of the closing of the sale but no tapes of the sales pitch used, how convienent. We are not paying. Thanks to all who posted your experience.

Supposedly sent three bills.  Got a confirmation that they had called and we were interested.  After asking for a copy of bill, they sent an account statment.  Said they were unable after 3 months to produce an actual bill.  Said there was 1 1/2 % interest, addition $50 fee for collection and and other late fee totatling $617.79.  But they would remove the $50 if I would give them a credit card or check info over the phone.  Amazing there is no physical address on the account statement.

Same experience as many others here.  We are a small retailer in Wisconsin and have been bombarded with telemarketing calls from these clowns.  One trick they use is to get the name of the employee who answers, then on another call will use the 1st employee's name as someone who has approved the "contract" and they just need to verify some information.  One of our elderly employees was duped into being recorded answering some yes/no questions and now they say we have a contract for 499.95.  I'm not paying a cent.  I filed a report with the BBB in New Jersey.  They just informed me that ypmedia did not respond at all to their inquiry. (no surprise).  They recommended I file a complaint (see below).  I suggest you do the same if your were also scammed. Here is the info from the BBB of New Jersey:

Hello everyone, please listen up. YP Media has recently been renamed, as of the beginning of January. They are now going under the name ***"Y PAGES"*** or the "National Y Pages". It is the same deal: $499.95 for an ad that basically does not exist. The phone number has changed as well: 1-877-829-2970, although you will likely not reach a live person. The new website is www.ypageslive.com - you'll notice that, true to form, the website is "under construction".

Bottom line is, do not bother sending them a check, do not bother speaking to the collectors; the collectors can only push you so far before they relent, as they risk exposing themselves to the law after a certain point. The collectors work internally, for the same company.  It will not affect your company's credit to not pay, trust me.

The exact same thing happened to me.  I was lied to and told I was just verifying information in our current listing in the phone book and the next thing I knew I was talking to someone verifying billing adresses.  They don't send any invoices until after their supposed cancellation period is over and then when you call the number listed on the invoice refuse to cancel the order and try to force you to pay.  I reported them to our Telecommunications Department and was told to see this website about all you others who have experienced the same thing.  I'm so glad so many of you refused to be bullied into paying this!  I hope the authorities take them down quickly, before more people fall victim to this.

Received a call from Steven Bentley re: an invoice for the amt. of $499.95 that was apparently authorized by someone in our agency.  They did not sign any paperwork but the representative claimed there was a recording of this individual accepting the terms.  Turned the matter over to our attorney but in the process found this site.  When I tried to call back, they would not answer the phone, but during the initial conversation the representative was quite persistant. We knew something was wrong, as we had already taken out an ad with Yellowbook.  Will be contacting the appropriate authorities regarding this matter.

Exactly the same thing happened to me! Apparently, they do not record sales calls but only the calls where the "customers" verify the information for the ORDER of the advertisement service. I clearly mentioned to the the "sales guy" who introduced himself as Oscar Walker (Indian nationality) that WE DO NOT CONFIRM any order and asked him to send the offer in writing for us to CONSIDER to which he replied : Sure, mam. We will just send you a "tentative invoice of 499.95" and if you WANT to go ahead and use the services you can pay it and if not, you can ignore it. That's exactly what he said. When we got the invoice, my boss told me it was a total scam and to totally ignore it. A phew weeks later, also got a call from Jonathan following up for a payment. When I told him we are not legible to pay anything as we DID not susbcribe for the service he hung up on me. And yesterday I got a phone call from Tammy Jones calling from 877-380-8035 Ext. 2141 also following up on payment and claiming we DID confirm the service by verifying the info like address etc on the phone, the recording of which she played back to me. My boss told me to absolutely ignore them which I will surely do.

Brennan,

Tell your work people to ignore them and not to be bullied into paying...they are a fraudulent company and are being investigated by the NY District Attorney as we speak.  An arrest has been made in the case.  Just hang up when they call and they will eventually leave you alone.  The collection agency they are refering to is also a fraud.  It's just an internal part of the same company and will not hurt your company's credit.

All of the below happened to us...the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce.  It's a scam.  I have filed a report with the Better Business Bureau Serving Metropolitan New York (New York, NY, 257 Park Avenue South, New York , NY 10010-7384, Phone: (212)533-6200, Fax: (212)477-4912...I got on the phone and told the gentleman we did not want the listing and he insisted we pay for it.  I asked him to prove it and he played a tape of the agreement by which our employee Alfredo agreed to buy the listing.  The tape had a variety of cuts and breaks in it and it did not appear to be authentic.  It was our communication specialist answering questions about our listing such as address, phone, etc.  It appeared that he was verifiying information.  I told the gentleman we did not want the listing and that I wanted a copy of the transcript.  He insisted it was a verbal contract.  I asked him again to send me the transcript for authentification and that I was not going to pay and that regardless Alfredo knows he is not authorized to make those decisions.  He asked me if I was an attorney...etc., etc., etc.  He said it appeared as though he was speaking with a child.  I told him the phone call was very deceiving and inappropriate.
