I called their 1-800 number and it's actually 1-877-391-9145

Received a call June 11, 2014, from "Tyler of the Official Notification Department" at this number.  He did not ask for me by name, wanted me to return his call regarding the "$50,000 Cash Giveaway" I'd registered for within the past 18 months.  It also sounded like a recording.   This has scam written all over it.  I'll report it to the BBB.

This is correct.

When you sign up with CIGNA and utilize any of their health assessments, they will call you back if you checked anything off like wanting to lose weight, depression, exercise more.  They offer a free one on one phone coaching.  You can call them back, they will call you by your first name and request you give your last name and address to ensure they are talking to the right person.  They will then discuss what you checked off and see if you want to set up an appointment to have one of their medical professionals call you.  This is totally legit.  It's one of the reasons I pay a little more to use CIGNA.

This is Cigna health care. They are calling regarding over-the-phone medical advice/help.

Cigna uses an auto-dialer to contact insurees on this number. I called them back (877-391-9145) as requested. The recording states Cigna wants to share some new information about their (health care) personal advocacy programs. After asking whether I was (my name), then asking me to dial the number on which the message had been left, the machine asked whether I was willing to be connected to a live rep. This rep then confirmed my address (note that both my phone number and address are public information), but DID NOT ask for even part of my SSN or any other sensitive information. He explained that Cigna would like to have a Personal Advocate contact me to do some health coaching, and set up an appointment convenient for me to receive a call. He also gave me a direct # for the team, as well as mentioning I could dial the number on my insurance card and then select personal advocacy team. I had him transfer me to another department which was able to verify I was really talking to Cigna (I asked THEM for information only Cigna would have).
Although the auto-responder message is annoying, this is a legitimate call, not a phishing scam. In a nutshell, if Cigna can get you to do things to improve your health, they save money. They've had personal health coaches available for years, but now they're trying harder to get people to take advantage of them. Btw - if you're still not sure it's really Cigna, there is a number on your insurance card. Call that number and ask about the personal advocacy team. They can verify whether you received a real call, and you'll be calling them on a number you know is really them.

I had the same call and it was legit. I thought it was a scam and called CIGNA number on my card. CIGNA verified 877-391-9145 is their nurse health coach line. When they call they cannot tell you why until you verify name and date of birth and sometimes address, but they will never ask for social security number or mothers maiden name etc. CIGNA patched me through and after three health nurse coaching sessions I got a discount on my insurance (by my employer not by CIGNA.)

877-391-9145 is the CIGNA health coach line. I just called CIGNA to verify. They have nurses call you to talk about healthy diet and exercise. Sometimes you get a discount on your insurance cost by doing this.

Thanks for all this info!  I got a call on my cell phone from the 978-867-5492 number.  That's a Massachusetts area code, and I have gotten work-related calls from that area, I was at my desk, so if it was work, then should call my office phone first.  I listened to the computerized message that was left and couldn't decipher whether it said 291 or 391. Looking it up has given me all the info I need now!

just recieved a voicemail yesterday from Cigna asking me to call back 877-.391-9145.  Thank goodness for for 800NOTES!!!

Thank you everyone for your posts...I received one of those voicemails as well, just yesterday, 5/8/13--same phone number...I thought it sounded a little weird and checked online first.  Thanks to the info, I will not be calling that number!  I'm sure if Cigna really had an issue or a major question for me to handle/answer, they would track me down:)

I tried calling Cigna's national number first, but Laticia, was most unhelpful. Then she said "Just give them a damn call, cuz they could be a couns-a-la trying to get you the right info-mations!" Then she hung up on me. I called the number but hung up. Hopefully they don't call back.

No identifying company - they knew my name - asked me to call back.

Just received call from this number. Voice machine asking for my wife(insurance in her name) if not her then take a message. Never had Cigna call before like that that I can remember. I smell scam. Thanks to those that left detailed info.

Who is this caller?  They leave just a message to return there call - no other information.  Bill collector?  Salesman?  Politician?  Who?

So yes, y guess is a phising scam too. Thanks to this website and your input, I will avoid calling 877 391 9145 and look out for 978 867 5492.

Good explanation Ron, the exact same process I just went through just minutes ago.  Seemed like a phishing scam to me and when I called Cigna, I received the same response about the number.  Anytime someone asks for personal information it's never something you want to give out unless you initiate the call.  Thanks Ron for the information, it was useful.

Got a call from 877-391-9145 -- left a msg on my answering machine claiming to be Cigna.  I called back from y home phone -- they wanted me to verify who I was by giving them my d-o-b and names of family members on my Cigna insurance.  I refused, asked why they had called me.  Guy on the other end could not confirm why Cigna called me until I shared my info with him.  

I then hung up and called the Cigna 800 number on the back of my health insurance card (800-622-4327). The person I eventually talked to at that real Cigna number could not confirm if 877-391-9145 was or was not really a Cigna number.  From looking in my account he could not see any reason Cigna was looking to contact me.  I asked to speak to a fraud specialist at Cigna -- the customer rep did not know who or how to connect me to that department.  --  He wasn't even sure it existed.  I suggested Cigna telepone reps needed to have less telephone numbers -- or at least a list of 'real' telephone numbers so they could confirm what numbers are 'really Cigna'.  He agreed -- and I'm done calling back.

Cigna, please get your act together ...

Got yet another call from 978-867-5492 looking for Joe Jefferson...message left said to call 877-391-9145.  I have told these people (CIGNA) numerous times that I am not Joe Jefferson, don't know Joe Jefferson and have had this number for years.  They promise to correct their records but never do.  Getting really tired of these freaking calls.

Got a call from (877) 391-9145 phone number today saying they had some important information.  I had to verify my number after calling and then verify me.  They didn't want to leave me on the phone very long.

They call almost every day and use this number as well as 855 246 1873, 621 696 4736, 987 867 5492.  I asked them to take my name off their list...but they say they need to verify it's me...although they have my 'file' on their desk.  Silly to ask me for my personal information when they appear to have it already...or not.
