I called an add on craigslist - same as all of you folks above.. I asked the lady for their website but couldnt pull it up - she then sent me the website:

They have just hit Boise, Idaho Craigslist. They show one picture of a living room supposedly in a house that's listed as "Rent to Own" in Payette, ID. Even the picture looks fake. Said they had a database FULL of properties for lease option. All they gave was this number 855-259-0647. I did a reverse look-up, came up with "unknown". Then I googled it and found all this info. Thank goodness for 800notes.com!!!!

They now call themselves "Standard Capital US"  but were previously known as American Standard(s) Online, Anchor House Financial, First Step Equity, and other aliases:  they want to charge you $199 for a not-very-current list of rent-to-own or so-called "pre-foreclosed" homes.  If you refuse to give them your credit card number, or ask too many questions, they get extremely rude in a heartbeat.

They are posting ads for homes in West Virginia Also. I do not know if its all through WV, but it is for sure in the Morgantown tab under housing searches.

These scammers along with others are spamming the craigs list for Michigan rent to own homes

there are also postings on craigslist for hickory/morganton, nc for several different homes. i spoke with a david and he was super nice, i got suspicious after he gave me his personal cell number and said "call me anytime to set it up, all i have to do is just jump on the computer to put in your information." at this point i still wanted to believe it was true so i called him back to ask some more questions keeping in mind it was a scam and if not then great! well he dodged most of my questions and told me there were 60 available in my area. i told him we would discuss it and i'd call back. well my husband asked me the name of the company, i didn't know, he answered very unprofessionally. i will be looking for these postings and flagging them as spam and calling to speak with this David in a few minutes to see what he has to say about this. :) thank you all for your information!

also spamming Craiglist in Morgantown WV

They are now posting on our Craigslist in the Midwest, I'm in Missouri. This week I've seen them under the phone numbers seen throughout these replies and also listed as "ownmyrent. Com" which showed up as from Ukraine.

It's so disappointing that no one has shut them down yet. I see complaints against them as far back as four years ago.

You sound like someone who works with them and gets a part of the cut. They're advertising in all kinds of states, so far I've seen Illinois, Iowa, California, New Jersey, West Virgina, Georgia, and Tennesse ( and those are just ones I've read about in comments here). $199 seems small, but with all those states  alone and if 10 people in each state fall for the scam  that's about $14,000 (rounding up). Just sayin!!!

There are a lot of states that do rent to own homes. You pay rent for a year, allows you to save up money for a down payment and get your credit score back up. Then you get a loan from the bank and buy the house from the people after the year of renting. It's risky to do rent to own because in some contracts written up by the owners it states  if you are even a day late on rent they have the right  to  evict you and you out on your secuiry deposit, all the rent you already paid. Just so happens the people using this number, as I'm sure other numbers and people, are scammers.

You sounds like a shill.  People are paying the $199 and getting precisely nothing.  So it really looks like fraud.  Why do you think people are complaining?  They aren't  complaining for the fun of it.

So far as I know, there'[s no such thing as rent to own.    You either pay rent, or make payments on a mortgage (or trust deed here in California) or purchase on a special sale.  Period.  People who offer rent to own are basically scammers.

Man, this is so upsetting. I found a Craigslist ad for foreclosed homes in Western NY, the guy seemed so nice and genuine. He didn't ask me any personal information and even gave me his "private" cellphone number to call if I had any further questions. He even told me about a bunch of foreclosed houses in the area. It did seem weird with the tone he'd get with describing the homes with kind of silly adjectives. I even asked him it if was a scam but then he said that it was federal/state thing due to foreclosed homes and all information had to be discussed over the recorded phone line. So glad I decided to Google the number after the call. This is the second scam I've almost fallen into. :~(  

please leave feadback when you follow through.. All of you rant SCAM!!! but you are the true scams, you want something for NOTHING...so what you are charged $199.00 you are being provided a service and an oppurtunity. I don't know what banks or  credit cards you have but my credit card company or bank will always give me my money back if I dispute the charges. You negative ppl are so pestimistic you miss out on a awesome oppurtunity.. I have googled american standard online and all this negative feedback macks me sick. However I wonder how much is it is true,, because $199.00 is NOTHING to pay if you are looking to invest into a house.. be pestimistic all you want but i am going to do it follow through and get me a damn house!!! The way our credit cards are set up you can always debate a measly $199.00 i will leave feadback after I get my house #BAM

They called at my job today.
Asked to speak with the IT Manager, they didn't had his name. When i was about to pause the call, they angrily asked for his name. I told them the IT manager wasen't there and she's asked me 3 times his name, to call him back.

You know its a shame that something that could be very usefull such as craigslist is becoming a haven for low life scum that like to take advantage of people just looking for a good deal. This is totally a scam (thank you google). If you send them money you lose. Luckily we thought it was a scam and investigated first.

They have a too good to be true add here in PA as well.  That's why I googled, we are a small rural town and I didn't recognize the number.  These ads scream of SCAM!

They are using the same company with different phone numbers. I paid and ended up speaking with the same person from where you pay to the customer service

I seen the ad on craigslist for many homes for rent. So I called I said I seen the ad on craigslist, he said rent to own, he said do you want rent to own? I said maybe, he hung up on me. I called back, he answered again, I said I was inquiring about the ad he had on craigslist. He said do you want to buy a house. I said possibility, he said do you due diligence and hung up again. WDT???

Thanks everyone for posting.  I found a home rent to own on craiglist (state of VA) and called.  It sounded tempting, but hanging up and thinking, I thought if a house is in pre-foreclosure isn't someone still living in it?  How can they rent it out?  Then I googled the # I called.  Anyways, I can't believe with all this info they aren't shut down by now.  Thanks for all your homework everyone.
