i have an unrecognized charge deducted from my checking account from Data Services in NJ with this phone number.  I have left several messages and no one has returned my call.

Same thing here.  Charge for $9.40 on Sunday on 5/18.  Filed lost/stolen report.

After reading other comments, I realized that I have also been victimized by Data Services.  They deducted $9.45 from my checking account on May 2, 2008!!!  And like comments above, I have left numerous messages and no one has returned my calls.  Does anybody know what we can do about this?  Its fraud!!

Same here. A $9.40 charge on my debit card shows up out of the blue. I called my bank and they immediately cancelled my card. They suggested that I should file a police report.

I had a $9.40 charge show up on my debit card today.  same info Data Services with that same number NJ. What's up?  I canceled the card per my bank and am filing a report with the bank of fraudulent charges.  We recently made an online purchase, could there be a connection?

Hey they got me too. $9.40. I had to cancel my credit card and so for the next week I am without. Filled out the credit card fraud affidavit and so now I have to fax it off at my own expense. Even if it was for a dollar I would still cancel my card and dispute it. Isn't Tony Soprano from New Jersey, maybe I can call him.

No call from them but they just randomly hit my cc for $9.40.. FRICKIN SCAMMERS

Thanks for the info. I was going through my caller ID and saw this number and have been getting unwanted phone calls. Good to know this is one I can gladly block.

I also had a charge for 9.40 from Data Services on my debit card today.  I use the card quite often for shopping on the internet.  The bank cancelled the charge and my card.  Customer Service Rep told me that they often see this type of incident resulting from a customer inadvertantly clicking on a trial or other "free" offer.  Most often users don't have any idea what service it is they are purchasing but they have been tricked into authorizing the charge. I suppose these con artists make a ton of money stealing 9 dollars at a time and hoping that no one is watching.

I as well have been a victim of this scam. I was told by the service rep that it appeared on my account as a radio service type transaction on their end.

these people keep calling my house looking for someone that i don't even know and then they proceed to tell me how i am doing this person "an injustice" by not giving them the message!!!!! I DON'T KNOW WHO THE PERSON IS .. DO NOT ANSWER YOUR PHONE IF YOU SEE THE NUMBER ON YOUR CALLER ID!!!

This number is a bill collecter. Michael Brown called me at work on, and talked to my assistant manager. He told her, something about sending out a marshall and he knew my boss name. He gave out his phone #. I called him back, he was rude and would not let me talk. He said he sent my name to the IRS and that my credit score would go down 150 points. When I gave the phone to my husband, he hang up. Then he called back 2 more times and hung up when my husband talked.

I received a charge for $9.40 for DATA SERVICES on 5/24 on my bank card.  I called my bank and they said they could not tell me any more about the charge except the phone number associated with it was 877-426-8370.  I placed a few phone calls to the number, it goes right to voicemail with no merchant identifier.  I called my bank to dispute, and of course by card has to be cancelled, now I won't have my debit card for 7-10 days.  Fortunately I googled the phone number and came across all of these posts about others getting scammed or I probably wouldn't have been so quick to call my bank and report the dispute.

Same here.  Received a $9.45 charge on Wednesday, 5/28.  I plan to call my bank in the morning to cancel card and remove the amount.  I think it's just unbelievable that people can get away with something like this.

Called looking for my husband had left a RUDE message. Stated his name was Joel Stone. He called again, and in the meantime i found this page so when he called back i said he had the wrong number, i just got this number. He was stupid enough to ask if i knew where the previous owner of the phone number was/lived. DUH! He then called someone at a house we lived at TEN YEARS AGO (we know the people). I dont know what this is aobut and dont really care. Apparently, what he is doing is ILLEGAL and if he continues to bother me i will be filing my OWN charges of harassment!! If your reading this Mr. Stone or Mr. Corbett - BRING IT ON!

Didn't get a call-got a charge on my credit card.  When I called the number I received a message telling me that the mailbox was full.

You're not missing anything. I have been paying these people for YEARS, and it's not a good idea to miss a payment and get a collection call from them. "Check by phone" is their favorite speil. Can't do a "check by phone" if you don't have the funds to cover the check, to BEGIN with..duh! Anyway, I almost have them paid off. WOOHOO!

I get the same message from that #. and the number to call back to is 1. When I called back (2 min later) I got a message saying they were closed. I also get the same message from a number in New York (646) area code.

THIS PHONE NUMBER WAS ON MY JULY BANK STATEMENT. I WAS CHARGED $9.35 ON MY DEBIT CARD. THE BANK STATEMENT HAD THIS PHONE NUMBER AND THE COMPANY NAME OF DATA SERVICES, PISCATAWAY, NJ. I HAVE CONTACTED THE FTC AND THE BBB OF NEW JERSEY TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE A DEBIT CARD SO MY BANK CANNOT REVERSE THE CHARGES AND IF THEY BLOCK THEIS COMPANY I WON'T BE ABLE TO USE MY DEBIT CARD ANYMORE. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THIS IS ABOUT?

This is the collection division for a company that performs medical tests (blood tests, for example) for your doctor or hospital lab. If you make payment arrangements they keep making mistakes and sending late notices when you're not late. You call to straighten it out and more mistakes are made. Frustrating.
