Follow up on the saga... So Dell sends me a letter (instead of closing the account) telling me that they are leaving it open, you have to get to the investigator to get them to close the acocunt and clear you name.  An affidavit never showed up, and Dell  continues to keep the stupid thing open "until they are done"  So here I sit trying to get Dell to close the account.

Not bogus, this is a legitimate number and it is the Dell Verification department calling to confirm an account, shipment or order.  Do not ignore it, stick on the line and force them to tell you why they called you.  I called with my ID theft investigator on the phone with me and after a run around finally confirmed there was an order place a month ago.  They don't call for the hell of it.  Call the number from the website, suffer through the transfers, but you will eventually get someone to admit they called you.

Or... wait for the bill to come in the mail and address it then, or when it goes to collections and you fail a credit check for something legitimate.  I wouldn't recommend that...

So... she didn't close the account, in speaking with another person she at least confirmed no more charges can be put on the account, it is on hold (not closed) and has been forwarded to their fraud department.  I had been told that someone would call me within 24 hours (1st lady), second lady stated they wouldn't call unless they felt they needed more information and that the call was investigator dependent.

I would be getting paperwork in the mail to send back to them to confirm that the account is fraudulent.  If they agree, they will close the account and I am not liable for the charges on the account.  The saga continues

This is a legitmate number

I had a voice mail left for me to call them back with a reference number.  I called my ID theft service and they called the Dell Financial services number they have and after being shunted around the Dell system we did finally get transferred to the validation department and "if you are disconnected" call this number prior to the transfer.  I never gave them the reference number, only my SSN and the advice of my investigator.  He made the calls and confirmed it would be safe before I did so.  You have to push and stick up for yourself, don't let them hang up on you until you are satisfied.  The women I finally spoke to said there were no open orders for my SSN number so there wasn't a problem.  She tried to pass me off yet again to close the account and I refused, because why would they call me about an account that had my old married name (not used in 15 years) and was supposed to be closed, had me listed as a business when I'm a person, and should have no orders on it for the last 13 years. (I did buy a computer with them and my company discount eons ago, so they had me listed with my old company and the account still open).  They don't arbitrarily call people in their system just for the hell of it.  She tried to tell me that they do periodic reviews, and I still pressed and wanted to know the frequency and thier policy behind these reviews.

She finally looked closer, and what do you know... Someone bought computers on my old account a month ago.  So, even though she stated she closed the account and would have a fraud investigator call me in 24 hours I'm calling back tomorrow to confirm she did what she said she did.  My ID Theft investigator was on the line the whole time listening (she said she couldn't do conference calls, so he "disconnected"), he placed a 90 day fraud alert with all the credit agencies for me and I'm covered by my service, and I will followup with Dell to ensure that they do their due diligence and I don't get stuck with a debt collection in my name.

Don't let this sit, and if they find an account with any of your information, specifically your SSN# keep pushing until you get the right answer and not a brush off.  I pay for ID Theft insurance $10 a month with my legal plan, so glad I did because when you need it, you need it.

I just received a call this afternoon from "Fernando" at Dell. He said that someone had made an application on my S.S. # on June 29. He said that it triggered a Fraud Alert. He said I would need to file a police report. He asked for my address to verify where to send the fraud report to. We called the Dell Financial service department and he said that number is for the Dell Fraud Department. They are located in India - which is where the 877-459-7301 number originates.  I was very suspicious, but after talking to Dell headquarters and being transferred to the fraud department - this is a legitimate number. If they call - you need to call the 3 credit reporting agencies and put a Fraud Alert on your account...

Got a voicemail from this number -- caller identified himself as Dell Financial Services and wanted me to confirm an order and gave a reference number.  Called back -- no such confirmation number and nothing under my name.  Definitely bogus but I can't figure out what the scam is.

Identified themselves as Dell Finance.
They reached my accounting department to get authorization to ship product and bill our Dell account.
My accounting department asked who ordered and what was ordered. "Dell Finance" would divulge no information.
I confirmed with the Partners in my firm that they did not order anything or open an account.
I called 877/459-7301 myself and spoke to Mollie.  She would not give me any information, only that she was part of the fraud department and the account would not be opened up in my company name and no charges have been made.
What a scam!     Stay Clear!

Identified themselves as Dell Finance.
Wanted to confirm some info on a order for
15 cameras that were going to be placed on
my business acct with them.

I don't have an account with them.  Told me
I should call Dunn and Bradstreet to make sure
no other accounts had been opened.

D&B wanted $799 for their alert service.

Sounds like extortion to me.

Just got into the same situation and had it verified later with our Dell rep and confirmed it was all normal practices now with Dell.  It was legit.

I placed an order with Dell this morning, then received this call within about two hours seeking to verify my company information and verify that I placed the order or had approved it.  I am always suspect of these things, but gave them my business name, position in the company, and phone number.  Had they asked for anything not publicly available I would not have provided it, but that was all they requested.  Shortly after the call, I received an email from Dell indicating my order had been verified and was being processed, and my tracking information indicated this as well.  While I found this call very odd, it did seem legitimate.  The application order for Dell's loans is so easy, I suppose they could get fraudulent loan applications quite frequently (someone need only know your business name, how long in business, phone number, and SSN - what disgruntled spouse doesn't have that info?), so this is apparently just a safeguard measure.  I have to say, I am suspect of the post above that indicates the author called Dell and was told this was not a dell number.  The fact that I could follow up independently though the Dell website and track my order, which indicated that it did indeed go through a verification process before being processed, seems to strongly indicate this was legit.

Just received a call from this number with an automated system identifying themselves as Dell financial services. I stayed on the line to see what I could get:

They asked if I had recently applied for Dell financial services and I said that I have not and they then told me that this would be reported to their fraud department and this would be completed in 30-45 days.

I am curious to see if someone calls me to try to get additional information as a "fraud department". I could totally see people acting on FUD and giving them all kinds of information. I hate fishing scams, especially social ones but they will never stop until people smarten up and then the return will not be worthwhile.

I plan to contact Dell and report this but sure they get it all the time and from the sound of it was probably some sweatshop sitting behind a corporation front using sip trunks, good luck nailing them down.

Received call from this number today. Caller identified herself as someone from Dell Financial Services. She says she wanted to verify an order that will be charged against my company's account. I asked her the name of the person who made the order and she would not tell me due to "security reasons". When I told her it sounded unauthorized, she said I would need to fill out a bunch of papers and file a police report. She then started asking informational questions and I told her I was not giving her any information or filling out any paperwork, as I wanted nothing to do with it. She then said she will just put the order on "hold" and then hung up.

I received a call from this number and after reading these posts I was a little skeptic so I called DFS from the number on the website (1-866-413-3355). After speaking with someone there they said there was an account verification hold on my order and transfered me to this 877 number so I believe this is legit.

After ordering supplies from Dell computer, I was contacted to call Norbert of Dell Financial Services at the number 877-459-7301 to verify application information. On returning the phone call, I was asked for more information including information provided to Dell the previous day. This included my position with the business, the business telephone number, and the home phone number. This phone call appears to be another effort to defraud Dell customers.

Someone called me trying to verify if I submitted a Dell Finance Application, but could not proceed without validation since I had a Fraud Alert set on my account.  I asked for the callback number and ref #.  They provided me the number listed above.  I contacted Dell Customer Service and was transferred to Dell Financial area.  They said this number was NOT one of theirs.  They also looked up my SSN to verify if any open/pending applications existed, but there were none.  So, be on alert...this looks like fraud to me.
