Caller ID# 877-506-8752; This is a legitimate number.  Falcon 24/7 Fraud Monitoring: Transactions that occur on your xxx Visa are monitored by Falcon, a fraud monitoring service, free of charge. Falcon assesses a risk score for each transaction you make by comparing your purchasing patterns to trends of check and credit card fraud. If a transaction scores high in risk, it will be denied and a Falcon representative will contact you. Although Falcon provides protection against potential fraud, it is important that you also continue to monitor your transactions.
If you have any doubts, call the number on the back of your Visa and talk with them first before calling this 877 back.

Not a scam, don't believe UWCU would tell you that unless you weren't clear on the number that called you or the person you talked to was flat out wrong.

Maybe Allen thought you were asking, "Is this a phone number to the UW-Credit Union?" And he said, "No," because it's NOT.
It IS the number to the VISA Fraud Prevention Services group dedicated to working with UWCU customers. Other banks and credit unions will have different phone numbers to their reps at VISA Fraud Prevention.

this number IS LEGIT.

I call UW-Credit Union from the number on the back of my VISA Debit Card and told them the message I received. They said that number was correct, and was their dedicated number for Visa fraud services.

I called the number was presented with an automated system that asked for my debit card number. I declined that and was offer the opportunity to speak to a human by pressing ZERO.

I was transferred to a woman in India (you could tell) and she NEVER ASKED MY CARD NUMBER. She asked me my Name, Zip Code and Date of Birth. And then TOLD ME the last 4 numbers on my card.

She asked about a charge at a CITGO gas station that I had made the night before at 1:30AM. I was running on empty, and gas is $3.88/gallon, so it came out to $46.xx, which is more than I usually spend.

Also, I had stopped and tried to run my Debit Card at a different SUPER AMERICA gas station, just down the street, minutes earlier, but it seems like they turned off their pumps because mine read, "VERIFICATION NOT ACTIVATED".

I asked the Indian Lady what Flagged my transaction as suspicious. She said it is a variety of factors that she didn't exactly know, but mentioned that it could be the location of the gas station, if I had used that station before (I rarely do), the time of night I used it, or maybe because I had just (tried to) run my card at a gas station down the street.

* * *

By all means, call UW-Credit to confirm with them, but the people on this number didn't ask me for my card's information (although the automated system did).

An extra note, I checked my checking account when I got the first message, and I did notice, "How come my $46 gas charge from last night hasn't posted yet?" So that shows that VISA was indeed putting a HOLD on the charge until they heard from me. THANKS VISA and UW-Credit Union! :)

Just called the UW credit union, number listed on their home page.  They verified WHAT I FIGURED.  This is a SCAM.  The man (ALLEN) told me that the number 877-506-8752 is NOT one of their numbers.

I must state, FIRMLY...If they claim to be with a "FRAUD UNIT"....Call the number on your card, verify.  They don't call YOU.  YOU call them!

Don't be fools.  CHECK IT OUT Before you give information.  That means you call them.  Don't take their number and call it back; that is a recipe for disaster!

The Last 4 digits are ALL THEY NEED to complete a card number.  ALWAYS call to verify... Be sure to use the number on the back of your card, if you have one.  If they ask for a 3 digit identifier, you got problems!  NEVER give that out.

Yes, this is UWCU Visa Fraud Prevention Service. They have called if (a) they see purchases in another state or (b) they see several unusual/costly transactions in a row. I am skeptical any time anyone calls to ask about credit card anything, but it's legit. Usually it's something like I forgot to alert them that I would be travelling (you can do this on the credit union site) or buy something expensive. One time though, they did alert us to an unapproved charge on our card - and helped us stop that activity.

This number is the real deal!  I got a call this morning on my way to work and ignored it. But, I received a different telemarketing call a few minutes ago and figured that I should put this number in as well. When I found this forum and figured that I should give them call them back and I'm very glad that I did!! Turns out that some random a** cable company tried to put a charge through for $900.00 yesterday & had I not called to confirm that I did not authorize this, it probably would have went through and caused all sorts of problems. I called UW Credit Union directly and they said that the card had already been cancelled by their Fraud Detection Department AND, since UW Credit Union does same day replacements, I can pay them a visit on my lunch break - Good as new!
This is not a scam. If you are unsure, call the number and find out what charges they are referring to. If something seems strange, you can always call your bank to report the fraudulent charges yourself.

YES, 877-506-8182 is San Diego Gas and Electric's C.A.R.E. (California Alternate Rates for Energy) energy assistance program qualification verification hotline.   If you have been participating in the program, you will eventually recieve a call from them via this number asking you to verify your current household head count and income status.  If you do not respond, it is assumed you no longer qualify or no longer wish to participate.  Make the call!

Legitimate.

I kept getting calls from this number one morning and the voicemail left for me seemed fishy. After coming across this page--with its conflicting replies--I walked into my closest UWCU branch and consulted an employee there. She located this 877 number on her computer and showed it to me after confirming with another employee that it is, indeed, their fraud department.

A (reputable) online retailer had charged my card at like 5am for an order I made around 2pm the previous day, which set off their "trip wires" as indicative of fraud.

Called from my cell phone, which is the number associated with my card, and they could see who I was. Verified some info such as my address, date of birth, and purchase amount and was done in a couple minutes.

If you're skeptical--like me--about entering your card number over the phone, hit 0 to talk to a customer service rep.

We got a call from this number also, saying it was UWCU's fraud department. We are always skeptical, so we googled the number and found this. We first contacted UWCU and it was in fact FRAUD. Someone got ahold of my husband's debit card number and racked up about $1000 worth of charges! Luckily, the fraud department stopped all but one payment, which we have to send in an affidavit of fraud.

Long story short... The number is VALID! Call them and get it taken care of!

This is legit. They do this randomly. Yes, it seems really sketchy and I wish it were a live person, but this is the way the UW does it. However, if you, like me, are uncomfortable with it call a UW branch as soon as they open to verify this is legit.

I received a call from this number after placing a few orders online today. I do bank through the UW credit union. The third time they called I answered. They really didn't ask for any confidential information, only date of birth and confirming the last 4 digits of your card number if I remember correctly. All the charges were correct so I confirmed them. I think if it were a scam they would be asking for my full credit card or my social security number.

got a call from this number: 877-506-8182
but they said they were SDG&E - San Diego Gas & Electric
they said if answer questions, then can get 30% off bill
press one for yes to confirm they were calling the right person
but then hung up because didn't want to answer their survey questions.
could be real, but it seemed like a telephone phishing expedition to me.
i figure if it was REAL, then then would send the info to me in the mail.

Hay people, just got the call today, There are companies that spoof phone numbers so even if the # appears to be legit it may not be, so as many have written do NOT give information unless you call the company yourself. Now as for me I do not have a UW acct either, the cell phone they contacted me on is not listed with any acct I have!!!!!!!!!! this is my spam phone that I do not answer unless I've already called the number myself, just to many scammmmmms to waste my time. SO IT IS MOST PROBABLY A SCAM IF THEY CALL YOU! .

I believe this to be real. If you are uncomfortable giving out any numbers over the phone hit 0 and you will be transferred to a representative. Then all you do is give your name and date of birth. If they ask for anything else you should tell them that they should already have it. If they persist hang up and contact your bank.

This number came up three times on my cell phone. I never answered but got on this site to see who was calling me. I don't bank with UW and have none of thier credit cards so there is no reason they should be calling me. The only credcard I use is not at all related to UW and has had no purchases in a week so no reason they'd be calling today plus my credit cards always have my home number. This sounds like a scam.

I received a call from this number today, and it seems legit.  If you go onto your UW Credit Union account, it brings you to a screen that says:

Visa Fraud Prevention

When activity appears on your debit or credit card that seems suspicious or out of normal spending habits, our Visa Fraud Prevention Team will contact you.

The Visa Fraud Prevention Team will be calling from one of the following numbers:
    Visa Debit Cards     877-506-8752
    Visa Credit Cards     888-918-7313

So it seems to be legit.  I've received a call from an actual person looking to steal my number before and they also asked for the expiration date, as well as my whole social security number.
