Computerized message saying it was in regards to a CIBC account. Closed my accounts with CIBC almost a year ago. Definitely won't be calling back to "retrieve this very important information".

Lol and its funny how you think you know what youre talking about, I'm a licensed debt collector in almost every province across Canada. To start they can call 5 times per day max if there is no contact, anything more constitutes as harassment, if they leave a message though they cannot call back untill the next day. Second, if they do make contact they are not allowed to attempt to contact you again in that same day, this is also technically harassment (contact would be you answering and verifying your information, you could answer give them your name and dob etc then hang up immediately) Just because people owe money doesnt mean they dont have any rights.. Do youre homework before you flip out on people on a forum like you know what youre talking about.... and lol noones going to lose their house over a payday loan unless theyre already in alot of trouble with debt.

rickinottawa- .  Yes everyone has different circumstances but that doesn't mean you go around ripping off companies for their money.  Set up a re-payment arrangement and they won't call.  Avoiding it and hoping the calls will just stop is not a way to deal with your debts.

Do your research. The laws for collection in every province are different. In Ontario, we have the Collections Agency Act. Read it. Be familiar with it. The companies don't know or won't abide by it but if they don't it's grounds for complaint or legal action.

Be smart, know your rights.

The only reputation Money Mart has is doing what ever they can within the legal bounderies in order to make Money, they will rip you off with High interest, phone you till your pissed off to no limit ect.
They got taken to Court over high costs of borowing and they lost, they had to Pay back 1000's of people and still have to Pay them back in 2013...depending on what Province you live in.
Bottom line....Stop using Money Mart for Loans, put them outa Buisness, wait 2 weeks for your Pay check.
They have a Bad reputation.

@Weiner: Aren't you embarrassed saying things like that?  Stop and think about what you're going to say before you say it, and you'll realize how ignorant you sound.  You know nothing about these people's circumstances, and you don't know any of the facts at hand.  A wise man knows to not judge a book by its cover, there are always two sides to every story, keep your opinions to yourself, and when an opinion is requested, gather all the facts first and offer your opinion impartially.

I've been getting calls from this number about once an hour every day for the past couple of weeks.  I called the number back, and a live person picked up the phone and answered as "Money Mart Head Office".  The person was a very friendly female, and asked me my phone number (the number that was being called).  I gave it to her, and strangely enough she had no record for that number.  She asked me if I've used Money Mart recently, and I told her I've never used Money Mart in my life.  She politely apologized for the inconvenience, and offered to immediately have the matter looked into to have the calls stopped.

The lady was very friendly and polite, and therefore I don't think there was any ill-will or "scamming" going on.  Most likely just a technical glitch.  I will update you all in a couple of days to let you know if the calls have indeed stopped.

They have been calling the cell phone of my 13 year old Daughter.
I called the number on the display and I was asked if I ever dealt with Mony Mart. I was promised to be removed from the list as I have never dealt with them in the past.

'Deadbeat debtors.'  I've worked with the less fortunate in a professional capacity, and there are many, many whose only avenue, ofttimes in extreme desperation, is to take advantages of services such as these, who essentially rip them off with loan shark interest rates.  (And the suggestion that they would 'lose their house' speaks volumes to your lack of insight here.  Virtually no-one who uses these services will EVER be in a position to purchase a house.)  But as Einstein said, 'You cannot alter a condition with the same mind set that created it in the first place' and thusly many people do not have the acumen that your oh-so-superior self apparently possesses to extricate themselves from poverty.  While I am an atheist, there are a few passages in the Christian Bible that do ring true, and I'll offer you one right now.  "Do not judge, lest you yourself be judged."  You apparently measure someone's worth on their ability to promptly retire a modest debt. (The maximum payday loan is, I believe, 1500 dollars.)  Were I to measure yours on compassion, you, sir or madam, would surely be found wanting.  Or on your punctuation skills, for that matter.

Why post anything if you are just going to bash people? These are hard times for many Canadians. Consider yourself lucky and "If you dont have anything nice to say, shut the #%*&!! up!"

After receiving some calls from 877-519-1317, i called them.  A woman answered the phone, and i explained that i have been receiving calls that werej't for me, possibly due to the new phone with Public Mobile and the phone number that came with the new phone company (which i have received too many wrong number calls from).
She asked me for my last and first name, in a very suspecious tone, not very well mannered either.  The call ended quickly and i hope to never receive another phone call from that number again - disgusting so many people are scam artists.

This is the head office collections, they will call any file with an outstanding balance. If you're getting calls and you haven't been to MM, call them and let them know. The dialer is reset every 24 hours, so if you get a call a few hours later, it hasnt been reset yet. Another reason you could be getting called is because someone who owes money has left you as a reference. If you call and inquire, they will be happy to help you sort it out. All these people complaining of the people being rude, how are you talking to them when you call? I know its annoying, but i hope this helped!

Money Mart does not sue over payday loans. Never did.... They will sue you if you cashed a cheque that comes back without funds or with a stop payment. They go after the [ayee and the maker as well. But will never sue for a payday loan. They can screw up your credit over payday loan. And they are aloud to call as many times as they want if they don't reach the person they are after. If they do talk to the customer ,then they are not aloud to do it more then once a day.
