Same thing just happened to me.  Phone number (caller ID "unknown") 855-539-4928 - I asked for the number - her name is Victoria.  Heavy Indian accent.  Request for my computer's security license ID#, saying my computer is putting out thousands of error messages and warnings.  Didn't give her any info, but called the number on my landline (ID blocked), and she answered. White pages reverse phone number lookup turned up nothing.

Received a call today, 04/02/2014 at 10:20am; telephone number displayed was 040000. A gentleman by the name of Alex with an Indian accent stated there is a virus on my computer and that it had been hacked into. I asked him to give me the telephone number he was calling from and I will call him back but he said that he was from the Federal government and was not allowed to give this number. I said to him that as I there was no guarantee that he was calling from Microsoft I was willing to take that risk.
Checked my computer and the status is that it is updated and well protected.

SCAM- phone number unknown but when i asked for it they gave me 1-720-262-4864. Said they were in Ontario. They said they were from "the technical dept of windows". Said my computer was showing all kinds of error reports & hackers.  They wanted me to go into my computer under his instruction to verify my COMPUTER LICENSE SECURITY CODE OR ID. I knew this was wrong so I told him that i would check into this & hung up.  This is the 4th time they have called. NEVER EVER TRUST anyone calling like this - this is NOT how these things are done. DON'T BE FOOLED.  Name was John or a Mr. Stevens, heavy east Indian accent.

Got a call from a microsoft licensed tech about my "CLSID". Said my Computer License Security ID was compromised or something. Tried to tell me this ID is born when you buy your frist PC and lives on with all your corresponding PC's. Besides cold calling from an unknown number, this was the first major RED flag.
Same thick indian accent. Was suspicious from the get go. Looked up CLSID online and could not find much clarity but I did find this page. Ha. At this point all I wanted to do was have him trip up. I chatted with him for a while and as my questioning began to irk him he transfered me to his superviser. Went through the same rigamarole with him as well. Funny thing was my computer had been offline for a week now.
Said he got my number from my old number(parent's house!!!) whom live in Miami. Needless to say they wont be giving out my number to just anyone from now on. These scammers are obnoxious and prey on unsuspecting people. Here is there info.

don't know if it was from this number but i certainly got a call from an eastern sounding man - i would not state gentleman as he was quite rude but had all the patter about my computer sending out warning errors and that he needed me to turn on my computer to fix it.  didin't trust him so just hung up when he started getting quite rude in his manner.  Claimed he was from windows and that he was from CLSID in chester which was fighting anti-hardware.  thankfully didn't fall for it but he has tried twice now - insistant or stupid as i refused both times.

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.
It is especially dangerous now because criminals are actively attacking unpatched Java security holes so don't let anyone into your PCs.

I just received the identical call on my cell phone; I questioned his company name; He stated it was Remote Support Care and he said my computer was throwing errors that they were getting; he talked about a router picking up the errors.  The phone # displayed on my phone was all 0's, so I was immediately suspicious.  Ironically, I had placed a support call to Dell last night.  I told the guy that I did not subscribe to his company and he said, I did not have to, but they would fix the problem.  I said I would run my virus/spam software, but there are too many scams out there and I didn't trust him.  He had a thick accent (sounded like Indian) and he said he would not argue with me and hung up.  I felt fairly certain it was a scam, but was relieved to find some confirmation here.  It is 6/14/2012 and am in Colorado, USA.

I nearly fell for the same trap.... same story... I was skeptical but almost convinced this was legit... when I was asked to download a program, I said I wasn't comfortable doing that... they redirected me to a webpage .. AMMYY .. something or other.. to purchase cleanup and security programs...   again I wasn't going to do that... I told him I was going to check with  my provider if this was legit or not... and asked him to call back the next day... or give his #... he was upset that I had wasted his time and was not willing to follow the procedures.... I said that or nothing... after checking it out I found all this info... called the police about it..   and cleaned up my computer with some recommended programs from the police computer tech....    then the guy called me back the next day..... I told him to KISS MY A**..!!!  .... he asked...so do you want to complete the procedure..???      lmfao....      I would like to hear from anyone that did download their program tho and what happened to them... besides the obvious fakes(collaborators??) that I have seen so far...

Prank Call
Got a call from this scam group.  Told me my operating system was 95% corrupted, got me to run event viewer and tried to tell me that the normal errors and alerts in the event viewer indicated the problem, and that the fact i couldn't open .pnf files in the C:\windows\inf folder also showed the corruption.  I wasn't doing anything so I strung along a while.
Indian accent on all the 'techs' - Ethan Ronson, Brian Wilson, Allan something - not exactly indian names.  Asked for the company and he sent me to the www.remotesupportcare.com website and gave me the 877-523-2355 number extension 1.
Hung up once and they called back.  Persistent fellows.  At that point I asked if I rebuilt my hard drive with reformat whether that would solve the problem.  He said no - the problem was the DNS and INS addressing and would recur.  Then sent me to a site advertising a remote desktop application.   - by now I'd had enough, told him remote desktop wasn't happening and I hung up again.  Didn't call back this time.
The scam is pretty good if you don't know anything about computers.

Caller claimed she was with the "Megabyte Solutions" service department and  I knew what it was immediately.  Yelled into the phone "This is a scam.  Go to Hell you stupid bi**ch" and hung up.  She called right back a said she was going to report me to the police for abusing her and then said my name and address.  Told her to go F*** herself and she told me to do the same.  Then I said "I know what this is"  and she hung up.

Same story had a guy call me over and over under a different company name sayingbhiw my computer is sending error messages out. And i''ve now got a woman who also has a strong Indian accent saying she's from megabyte solutions in Manchester England, she's calling back later haha cant wait to speak to her especially now I've done some research. I'm astonished though how they seem to be calling all over the world, scam scam scam it's sooo frustrating as they must get people who fall for it or they wouldn't bother.

I have received several calls from these schmucks!  The number that comes up when they call is:  23-456-7890.  The first call had a significant delay and I hung up before they came on...the second call my husband answered and he asked them a series of questions which frustrated them..tonight when I saw the number I answered and it was my good friend "Charlie" from "Megabyte Solutions".  After playing around with "Charlie" for a bit he got upset with me and HE hung up om me!  HAHAH!  I knew it was a scam but decided to check it out and look up the name Megabyte Solutions and low and behold...there are many complaints out there..what a surprise!!  And like so many folks have already stated...thick accents.

Same story but they gave the number 307-529-0607 said they were in miami when i asked the time they were one hour off from what it should have been!
First caller "Hazel" said the company was magnovox or something similar. Hard to understand Hazel's thick Indian accent.
Second caller was I think "Dave" his English was a bit better and he said ecovision and gave the above number. If these people worked this hard at an honest living they would be fine but they want to scam others instead, pathetic.

Got a call from someone named Paul Simmons (heavy accent - sure his given name is NOT Paul Simmons).  Anyway said I had junk malicious downloads on my computer.  They were working with my Operating Systems companty (he couldn't tell me readily though what my OS was? Humm)  anyway - wanted to ask him questins and waste his time - figured it would prevent him from making his quota and calling some non-techie senior or something....  He wanted me to log onto my computer and verify my CLSID with him...we did a few more run arounds and I told him I thought this was a scam call, etc....  So he gave me my CLSID and wanted to know if I knew how to verify it on my computer - I said know how about telling me all the steps and give me a call backll number - I'd research and call him back.  He reluctantly gave me the number he had, an incorrect phone nbr. 1st 353-151-33705,  when I told him it had to many digits he gave me 1-877-523-2355 (Amazing how many business names all use this number).....Anyway - recommendation to EVERYONE if you 'do not' know anything about computer's invest - HIRE a reputible Local Tech Support Company to help you out - it is worth the expense and peice of mind to invest the money....
