She said they were calling about someone she has never heard of - in other words, that she does NOT KNOW.

Just saying, but they could be referring to someone you know. THAT person could have put you as a reference if THEY moved or changed something related to their address or phone number. If you are a reference, they should only be calling you to find out where that person is, and not asking for any payment or money from you. If you dont seem to be, then for you its most likely spam

They call at 7 am , 8:30 am, 2 pm, and 8:30pm. They won't stop calling and its driving me nuts.

I demanded that these morons not call again. What kind of business has Saturday hours of 9am-6pm, and Sunday hours of 11am-10pm? Bill collectors.. I demanded to be contacted by mail, and probably will never hear from them again. Do (not) return their calls.

its a fairly new company i think.  they are an assistance organization, non-profit.  just here to make sure people are aware of all of their repayment options for student loans.  they don't ask for any fees, and the only time they ask for any bank information is after you have set up something to be debited automatically.  if you want confirmation of this, call your current lein holder.  once a school becomes partnered with them, they basically request all of the info about students who still have student debt(all colleges you've attended in the past can look at your current loan balance) and start calling people in an attempt to HELP with debt.  My wife has been a memeber with these folks for 2 years now and is still currently in school.  we pay the interest on her loans, and every month we get a phone call and a statement directly from SALT about how much is going to be paid, and asking us if we would like to pay more this time, or just the interest.

I am in Canada and have never had anything to do with them.They have been calling me for years about a student loan for some one I have never heard of..I have had my phone number for over 30 years, so there is no chance on it being from before. I have told the callers numerous times that they have the wrong number and even e-mailed them the same information but they keep calling. Today just after 8am on a Sunday. Does anyone know what legal efforts can be used to stop this harassment?

They left a message on my voice mail referring to me by my maiden name.  The funny thing is they claimed they were calling of behalf of the last university I attended.  I enrolled in this college well after I had changed my name after I married.  So in short, my maiden name does not correlate with the university they claimed to be serving.  I think it's a scam.

They keep calling and emailing me i transferred schools and they are calling on behalf of my first college and as of now my loans are on hold(I deferred them bc I had about a year bw getting my associates and bachelors and just could not afford to start paying back) I start school again in a few weeks and have explained and explained this to these a-holes but they will not leave me alone. Seriously how can I get them to leave me the hell alone

I called them back after the # poped up on my caller ID this morning, that's how I found that out.

It is a student assistance program, not collecting any debt. Calling to talk about and offer financial counseling services on behalf of whatever school you went to.

If this really is a debt collector for students loans like you mentioned, I have student loans but have never missed a payment and always pay more than my monthly minimum, so this is crap and I don't understand why they would be calling me!  And I have been out of school for years, so why now all of a sudden?  Dumb!

This is indeed a legit number.  They are a debt collector for student loans.  We have a loan out for our daughters college tuition. Our acct is debited monthly for payments. For whatever reason, they still continue to call- they are relentless! Never missed, or been late with a payment. So, don't really know what the hell they still want.

This is a legitimate number from a debt collector for student loans. I know from experience- as my hubby and I do indeed have a loan with them for our daughter's college tuition. However, they make harassing calls days before payment is due- which, is ironic- because we have it set up to be debited from acct automatically. And, they are the ones who set it up.
