It is a scam and a very unsettling one, at that. It is sad somebody would go to the extent of setting up a recording like that and sending out all those text messages. What a shame for Visa's name, too.

same thing 8/8/09 2:00 pm
Portland, OR
Texting is all new to me so I was suckered.

Having just made an authorization over the phone for a $400+ charge for auto repairs I thought it was legit.
Called Visa through # on card and put a lock on the card.
Live and learn.

a text from #3816 saying VISA@VISA.COM/VISA Card Blocked Alert and to call this toll free number. DON'T do it...total scam. You get an automated system that says it's a credit union and that you're card is restricted... just asks for your credit card number and info..you can't actually talk to anyone. If your card was really restricted...your bank would call you. Again DON'T do it!

Thank God for 800notes !

I got a bogus text from these guys at a family picnic on a Sunday. I scared me. I thought I had a problem with a credit card. Why doesn't T-Mobile block this crap!

Why did you respond to that number at all?

NEVER EVER CALL A NUMBER or USE a link like this.

If you are concerned about YOUR account - you call YOUR bank directly - using a KNOWN valid number - like the one on the back of credit/debit card or your statements!  Or you go to the THEIR WEBSITE (without using the links)

Phishing has been an ongoing scam for sometime now - why would you take the chance?

Whew!  Thought the text was true, until I too googled it up and it brought me here.  I also received a call from an Oregon area code, and received that text as well.

I feel slightly better now that I'm not the only one getting this.

Portland OR / T-Mobile   /    8/8/09 2pm

What suckered me in:  new to texting / having recent charge to card over phone / being away from a computer to check on it.

Same thing - I had just authorized a $400 + charge for auto repairs so I thought there was a problem with it going through and input my #'s.
Called the # on the back of the visa card and the account was fine, they told me that # was not theirs.  I froze that card.

Hope someone figures out how they are getting our phone #'s

also received this call today! I immediately thought it was fishy frankly because I don't have a credit card which I access at VISA.com and whenever I have a problem with my bank or my credit card or some company, those specific organizations contact me, not VISA.

3:07PM, 8/8/09--I received the same text message as everyone else.

I called Visa; they said to NEVER dial any number other than what's on the back of your credit card.

My whole family got texts today asking for our credit card numbers, exp. dates and pin #s. I thought it was legit and called back with my bank account number and pin, the recording said that the pin I entered was incorrect. At that very second, I realized it was a scam and hung up. I checked my account and it all seems fine. I hope by entering my account number instead of my visa card number that there's nothing they can do with the info. I feel so stupid, but was fooled. My 18 year old daughter gave then all the info they asked for, but only had .89 in her account. We now will have to have her pin changed.

My fiance and I both received the same text "visa@visa.com/visa (card block alert). For more information please call 1-877-543-7987. Thank you/"

We didn't enter any of the information, and we both believe this is a scam as non our accounts are related to our numbers.

Still waiting for a mass text from T-Mobile alerting people of the scam. Doubt it will happen. Shouldn't be too hard to tell all of their customers from 2 metro areas.
