This number  has called me 23 times in 5 days. When I answer it's a half finished recorded message about my Best Buy account, which is current, and they never leave a message. They called me early as 7am and late as 10pm. Unreal!!

We have been receiving calls from this number several times a day and night for a couple months now. It always says "Unknown Caller" on our ID. they fill up our caller id and never leave a message. We don't answer unknown callers and if we did, we definitely wouldn't respond to any questions about our finances. I finally told them after a month to stop calling our phone number. A woman yelled at me and said they are calling for a man's name. I told her I don't care and to stop calling our number. I hung up  and then they called again. I answered it again and told them to stop calling. This time a man answered and said they were from Citi bank and were affilitated with Best Buy. I told them they are showing up as "Unknown Caller" and to stop calling or I would report it as harassment. We checked our Best Buy account and saw there was nothing wrong with it. They continued calling every day several times a day and night, so we finally had to unplug our phone. Because of this, we lost calls from our friends and family. Two weeks later, I plugged the phone back in and immediately, we got another call from these people. We then took our phone number off of our Best Buy account. If they treat their customers like this or have this bad of a breach in their security, we are getting out of our contract as soon as we can.

A brand new scam that we?ve found with our customers involves phishing phone calls has now been popping up.  The victim will receive several phone calls pretending to be from Citibank.  They will leave a voicemail asking for a call back to discuss ?your Citibank account?.  These phone calls will be sent out by the thousands, and at least a few of them will reach actual Citibank customers.  When the victim calls back the number provided, they hear a recording that sounds identical to the recording you would hear when you call the real Citibank.  It will say ?Thank you for calling Citi cards, servicing Citi and AT&T Universal card accounts.  For assistance in English press one.? ?This call may be monitored and recorded for quality assurance. ?  It will then ask you ?to expedite the handling of your call by typing in your 16 digit account number?.  Once you have typed it in, the phone disconnects.  Now the scammers have taken your credit card information and soon after will be maxing out your account.

Didn't pick it up.  Looked up the number in the call log and then checked it here.

It is my belief that some of these companies (Asset Acceptance, Midland Credit) that buy debt for pennies on the dollar are harassing just anyone to cancel payment records to make their "business" look legitimate.  They could be scammers, but I suspect that they use the tactics of scammers to disguise their illegal attempts to collect even though they have no information, holding credit downgrading over the heads of those who know they are trying to collect on the basis of old or INCORRECT debt records.

It would seem to me, since I owe nothing, that they are trying to piece together information by cross-referencing sets of near matches.  Of course, this also resembles the work of dumpster-divers, so I can't speak with complete certainty, but shortly after an unanswered call from one entity (claiming to be Best Buy or some other merchandiser), another call will come from one of these extortionists who care not one iota whether they are collecting from the debtor or not.

They often call me asking for Sergio or some other name.  I've had daily calls for years asking for another person, never following up on their threats to take me to court (which they can't) or to put a "black mark" on my credit report (which they could, if they had correct information, so don't give them any).  On occasion, they will resort to advising you that there are criminal penalties for something like harbouring a fugitive when you deny any knowledge of the person about whom they inquire.  Some of these strong-arm tactics may be the ideas of unsupervised employees implicitly given free reign over their techniques while the company publicly claims to discourage unethical practices.

In this forum there appears periodically your rights insofar as these organisations are concerned and the procedures for requesting documentation that enables you to file a report to the FTC and/or build a case against these criminals.  However, part of the procedure involves revealing your identity, which they may misuse in any number of ways either in the belief that you are attempting to evade collection or just as a demonstration of their power.  Under our system of justice, it is possible for such entities to wriggle free from solid cases against them until they are caught dead to rights and shut down.  Out of those pests who manage to flee, there will be many in turn who form similar enterprises that will also fall to greed, but not without spreading the disease.

Many valid and well-supported claims have been filed against these companies, but they still seem to slither through the industry, paying fines with their ill-gained booty and continuing their practices, often under a different name.  I know of extant civil and criminal lawsuits that are now stymied by skilful juridical filing games and judgements against such companies that do not prevent them from moving forward as they are, or in some other repugnant form.

There are several phone numbers associated with the ?Best Buy/Citibank credit card? bamboozle.  There is some good information at these related phone number threads:

The number that is usually the first one to try to contact someone:
877-561-2272  (Toll Free SVC)
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-561-2272

The number they want you to call back to:
855-242-6899
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-855-242-6899

The second number that calls after you block the first one.  It has a ?proper,? possibly ?spoofed? CallerID:
423-467-6190  (CITI)
http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-423-467-6190

We are treating these as scam calls, since we have no evidence, whatsoever, that this is not a scam ? we have no Best Buy account, no Citibank accounts, no letter or bill in the mail, no summons ? we gots nothing but the sound of strangers? voices on a telephone line from who knows where, trying to tell us what to do.

The best advice says take this as a fraud, even if you do have a Best Buy account through Citibank that might be overdue.  If you actually try to payoff an account or cancel your card permanently, you still have to watch your accounts because of the way the provider will use different unethical tricks to try to keep billing you for interest and late fees.

After continuing to call 4 or 5 times a day even after I talked with them 3 times, they finally left that voice message that others have described here.  I spoke with my daughter, and she says it's a scam.  That's it for me - their call is now blocked!  They will have to 'govern themselves accordingly.'

Calls from this number and others are calling under the guise of my husband's cousin's cell phone number in San Antonio.
I have received over 15 calls from what I thought was my husband's cousin and it is not him calling. When I look at my cell phone numbers, the cousin's number is what I see first in bold numbers. I then noticed underneath the cell number is another phone number in small print. this number is actually the creditor or telemarketer's number that is calling.  Is this legal to use someone's number as a disguise? The cousin also told me he had another lady call, irate, because she received a string of calls from his number and he did not know who she was and he did not make the calls. What  can be done about this?
Here are the numbers that are doing this: 877-561-2272, 800-410-4391, 951-266-5539

This caller asks to speak with my daughter, who has lived in another state for five years.  They keep calling even after I told them she doesn't live here and that I had told her they were calling.  They don't leave a message, and they won't tell what they are calling about.

This call appears to be a scam.

This number comes up 7 days a week. I answer and a recorded message tells me to call another number. I called the number and no live person answers. I do not want to receive these calls, I have no CITI account and I do not want one so whatever they want from me is truly unsolicited.

1-877-561-2272 is a scam. Don't be cheated. After being harassed for a week of repeated calling (3-4 times a day), I finally picked up the phone and warned them this number is being reported to the police as a scam.  The lady claimed it is a commercial call and asked for someone who I don't know.  I said that the person doesn't live here, and she said that my number will be noted.

Started getting these on my work cell phone, so I called by.  It is CITI servicing Best Buy cards, and they are calling regarding delinquent accounts.  I gave them the number they called, and let them know I did not have a Best Buy card - she updated the files and apologized for the inconvenience.

This has happened a couple times.  Phone numbers get recycled after a while (company owned phones even faster), and the guy that had my number before me apparently wasn't real good about paying his bills.  I know there are a lot of scammers, but the info in this list helps a lot to determine what might be happening.  I've returned about 5-6 of these calls (like I said, not real good about paying his bills); I've treated the agent politely and have been treated the same in return.

I keep getting that same message on my phone, too. I refuse to call it back after reading these messages. I am not late on any payments; so why they are calling is beyond me. I have added the number to my reject call list but it still gets to my voicemail, which is very annoying, but at least it doesn't ring. I am on the Do Not Call list so maybe my next step is to report this number to them...

I get called every single day. If I pick up it is a machine telling me to call citi to a different number. I do have citi credit cards but know they don't do this if they need to reach you. Also the number they want me to call is not for citi customer service so I am not calling. It is scammer wanting to steal your personal info!'
