This is just the card fraud prevention people.. I called TCF to make sure. If you actually listen to their message they leave you a case #, you don't have to give them your card number if you have the case number.
This isn't some kind of online game where the admins will never ask for your info, you have to confirm it's you to get access to the bank every time you call them. Please, take the 2 minutes to confirm if you are scared and stop whining.

I checked with TCF bank first and they said it was authentic.  I then called the number.  They did not want my entire credit card info and only the case number.  They were checking to see if my recent transaction was made by me.  It was.  I can understand why they called as it was a large amount for an iTunes application.

This is 100% legitimate.  I called it back and pressed 0 to speak to a person.  She just asked for my birthday (she said the month first) verified my zip code and then told me that they were calling to confirm a transaction I had just made online. I was buying something from another country, so it threw up a red flag with Visa.  I did not give her any information that would lead her to steal anything from me. She knew the last four digits of my card and did not ask me to provide the other digits. She did not ask for my social. She did not ask for any identifying information whatsoever. She just verified my birthdate and my ZIP Code. Then proceeded to tell me what had happened on my account. If she was a scammer, she would not have known this information. All she wanted me to do was confirm or deny that I had made the purchase. TCF bank informed me that had I not called back, they would have canceled my card for fraudulent activity. Make the call, ask to speak with a person. It is definitely worth your time. This is not a scam.

This is a legitimate call from TCF Fraud prevention. I was "globe-trotting" over the weekend on a international driving trip and they sure called to make sure that I was all the places that my card was used. It's nice they did that, because the charges were totally all over the place and probably looked like I was in multiples places at once and was just pumping gas and eating fast food the whole time.

I have received five calls between yesterday and today. I was able to go to the local TCF Branch this morning because they are open on Sunday and they told me that nobody would ever ask for my info over the phone. I deactivated my card and changed all passwords and pin number at TCF's recomendation. As I was writing this I received an other call and the card has been deactivated for about 8 hours. BEWARE

True story. They called, left no message. I dialed the number, indeed they said it was TCF Fraud prevention. Not trusting dialing a number, I called my local bank, verified my transactions today, they then transferred me to Fraud Prevention. They verified they had called.

Not often I can say I get a legit call, but indeed, it is legit.

Just got a voicemail from this number citing a case number and to call them back.  I do believe that they identified themselves as being from VISA although it was a recorded message.  I called the number back and got a recording asking if I or anyone in my household was over 18 and if we used coupons.  It then went on to say that I could get a $100 rebate voucher to shop at a large retailer (Target, Wal-Mart, etc) for just $1.95 charged to my card by just pressing 2.  Very odd!  Totally has to be a scam.....I've received 2 calls from this number already today.  Definitely need to block!

Just received a call from this number.  A recording asked for my zip code and last four numbers of my social in regards to some recent transactions on my TCF account.  I hung up and immediately called TCF Bank, they said "NEVER EVER would you receive a recorded message from their fraud department!"  TCF does have a Fraud Department but an actual person would contact you, not a recorded message.  Do NOT give any of your info, SCAM!!!!!

This was VISA fraud protection calling on behalf of TCF bank.   We got the call because we made a large ($1222.56) purchase, which is unusual for us and also it was out of state. Literally called a few hours after we made the purchase. Just an unusual purchase/amount that triggered a red flag for our TCF Bank Card.  Nothing weird about the call, just annoying that they keep calling, but I suppose if it was an actual fraudulent charge I would be happy to be notified so quickly.

The number IS for VISA Fraud services. If there are any questions about it's legitimacy, just call your bank and they will connect you directly with a VISA Fraud rep. If ignored, they can and will deactivate your card entirely or suspend all transactions until you call them.

This number called me several times in one day. I don't even have a TCF account. This has to be a scam. They ask for a case id that they never left me and if I didn't have a case id it says type in your credit card number. Really?? Want my SS# too? Always be very careful with this type of thing. Just call your bank directly and verify it through them.

Not sure about Gail, but the call itself is legit.  My birthday's coming up and I went on a spending spree today.  Got three phone calls from this number.  After reading the above comments, I called.  You don't have to enter the credit card number if you don't want.  I opted to speak to a representative.  They verified my transactions at the stores I literally just visited in the past two hours.  It's not a scam at all, an anti-scam, if you will, but I can see why people are hesitant.

They called me 3 times today, leaving a voicemail saying to have my card number ready to verify i made the transactions to my account within' the last couple days.. My card was hacked and used twice, up to $150.00 in the last two days. I went to TCF BANK and NEVER called them back. They told me to NOT ANSWER ANY calls. Just go to the closest branch to you, let them know the deal, and they can report it to investigators and your money should be back into your account 1-2 weeks.

I hope this information helps somebody like me when i needed it.

p.s. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK AND GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION.

It certainly is the Visa Fraud protection line.  Any questionable transactions such transactions online or from shady locations are verified by a call from this number, do not be alarmed, they are only trying to help.

Calls from "Visa Fraud Prevention" started right after I made an online purchase from Ashampoo for their office suite. The download came from a 3rd party. I didn't trust them, so I hung up. I then called my bank to report the call.

TCF checked to see if my account was being verified, which it was. The customer service rep then put the verifiers on the line and monitored the discussion. I was asked to verify my zip code and birth date and nothing else. They then asked if I had made a purchase from a specific party in a specific amount. When I said yes, they were done.

So, while I don't like their method, for me this was a legitimate call. I feel that the information asked for was enough to verify my account, but not enough to help anyone take over my steal my account or steal my identity.

I received an automated call from this number and went to TCF to check it out. They said it was, indeed, VISA calling about an inappropriate charge to my account. When I was in Ohio in August, I went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and somewhere else for ice cream. Someone at one of these places copied down my information and is now trying to use it. I live (and am currently in) Minnesota. The charges stated that the card holder was present for the charge in Canton, Ohio, and they even had the 3-digit code from the back of the card. VISA immediately cancelled my card. Although I have the additional inconvenience of getting my new card number to those accounts that regularly use it, at least I'm not going to incur any other fraudulent charges. VISA said usually a small purchase is made to see if they can get away with it. Then they make more and larger charges.

You are a retard my friend. It is normal for VISA to ask last for digits of SSN, name and zip.

It wasn't TCF calling you idiot, it's VISA calling on behalf of TCF.

This is absolutely a scam. Please don't believe anyone on this forum who is reporting differently.

I received a call from this number earlier today. The moment the automated voice asked for my ZIP code and the last 4 of my SSN I knew it was fraud. I immediately call the customer service number on the back of my TCF card. The TCF representative had just received an email notification of these phishing calls. He assured me that TCF would never ask for personal identification through an automated call. I provided TCF with this phone number.

TCF also told me to change all of my online banking passwords and to come into the branch to get a new debit card.

The calls keep coming. I had to put an auto-reject on my cell phone as it's ringing hourly.
