These people keep calling me. I've received 20 calls just today. They ask for Amanda every time. My name is not Amanda. I tell them they have the wrong number and then they just hang up on me. I ask to speak to a supervisor other times and they hang up on me. When I try to call this same number back it gives me a message that it's not a working number.

I got a phone call from these people also. I was scared they would garnish my wages and I would get into trouble, that I actually paid them. I guess being naïve didn't help me, but is there any way to get my money back?

Jason Locke, you have no Idea who you are dealing with...so back off, keep calling my office and you will be in for a Rude Awakening.  I don't take lightly to idel threats

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Just got the exact same call!  The gentleman left a message to call the above number, an extension of 255 and refer to a file number about a civil matter and that he has been instructed to do a wage assignment, he left his name of "William White"   at least that was more believable than others leaving Michelle Pfiefer, or Michael Jackson.   Seriously?  These folks think us Americans are that stupid.  The sad thing is this,,,Some Americans may not be educated enough to research to find out if it is a scam or not.

When I called the above number it was an automated message saying i had reached a 1-800.com forwarding answering service.   How do we as honest human beings stop these harassing phone calls!!!!!

I received a call from Lisa Perkins at 877-601-5871 ext 253.  They line is the same.  I show you owe for a payday loan and it was never repaid......I, unfortunately, did not stop to do the research and am now out $300.  Of course, though she told me at the beginning that if I proved afterward that the debt was not mine, she would gladly reimburse the money.  Well, you can guess what kind of luck I have had with that!  Don't give them any information!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i received a scary voice mail from a very deep voiced man calling himself brian westbrook. i  was to call 877-601-5871 as he said he was an attorney and that i was going to have a judgement against me, garnish wages and suspend my license. i had no clue what it was about so i returned the call and ended up talking to and man named alex. he could not give me info on when i supposedly took out a pay day loan but said it was from united cash advance for $500 and it was now $2238 BUT i could pay it today for $395 or go to court. i only had today to pay it. alex said they did not have to alert me to this matter because he said i electronically signed a document saying that they did not have to alert me. i was very upset and racking my brain over this since i had no clue what he was talking about. i looked it up online and of course found all of the scammer info. i called back saying that my attorney told me it is a scam because by law they had to tell me what court and give me detailed info in writing by usps. he tried to say my attorney could talk to their attorney but i said no, that i would be expecting info in the mail. so i will wait and see what happens next, but there is no way they will get a cent from me. oh, by the way alex was very nice and very understanding as he insisted i must pay this so he must have thought you get more money with honey.....

I have been receiving a lot of these phone calls too.  As matter of fact one this morning about 25 minutes ago.  Said they were going to take my wages and my license,   It was a Mr. Jim Short.  The no. is 1-877-601-5871.  He has been calling me at my work too and my boss has been getting upset with it.  I refuse to talk to them now and am going to talk to my lawyer about this.  I know that I did not take a loan out in 2009 and have proof that I didn't do it.  People who get this phone call, don't believe the BS that they are giving you.  Why pay for something that you didn't do?

I received a call at work from this number, a Ms. McGarrey or McGarret stating that there was going to be a 25% wage assigment order placed on my paycheck. It's my understanding that they need a court order for this. I have never at any time received a cash advance or "pay day loan". This is harrassment and absurd. I researched EW Collections (since I saw previous posters stating that reps had given this as a company name) and found the following site:
http://www.ewcollections.com/
If you go to their "contact us" section there are 3 emails listed. I sent them all an email simply stating I was not sure whether they were legitimate or not but obviously companies they represented were not. I also gave them the phone number of 877-601-5871 that called me. Whether anything will come of it or not, I don't know. But this is making me stomach sick that so many people can be targeted like this and threatened when they're innocent. If you have a few minutes, please contact them!! Maybe if they get enough emails it will spur an investigation.

I recieved a call from a Mr. Robert Lawrence from 877-601-5871 ext 243, stating that they are going to garnish my wages and have my drivers license supsended over a pay day loan that I received and never paid back. I've never taken out a pay day loan with anyone and when I asked for documentation to be sent to me, he told me that he didn't have to provide that information. What scares me is he told me my social security number and my checking account number and I never use those online for any reason. What can I do to make sure they never use my account? Also he refused to tell me the name of the company that he works for.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Got a call from a lady, asks for me by name. I confirmed, and then she hands the phone over to a Maya. I called maya back literally 20 times to piss her off...even one time acting like i was a collections attorney. After a while I started using phoney extensions. Finally I got this guy that didn't know who Maya was. I gave him her extension and everything. He asked me not to call back anymore because I started dropping legal knowledge on him. Scared the hell out of him. I say we give them a taste of their own medicine and organize a call-back day on these scoundrels. Blow their lines up until the tap out.
