When you google the number, the first returned item is a Stats Canada website regarding the Survey of Young Canadians and quoting this specific number as the contact for Statistics Canada's Alberta and BC office in Edmonton. This is NOT a scam, as was mentioned by the first poster in this thread. Any attempts to verify the number would quickly and easily confirm this. Agree with them, or don't. But they aren't trying to rip you off. As mentioned by sb, when they call, take a minute, listen to them, and then tell them you don't want to participate in this or further surveys. So much faster than taking the time to continuously ignore their calls and bitch online about being harassed.

Also, If they actually want a response wouldn't they try contacting me throughout the day, instead of just the wake up call twice at 8am. whoever that is, it's pure horse shit!
Bill 2017-07-20 08:39:56 Unknown
If it's truly legit, shouldn't CRA have some caller ID.
I never answer a call from an unknown caller.

My suspicions were raised when I got a call before 9am and another before 9pm on Victoria Day which is a Canadian National Holiday. Also, they are not allowed to call before 9am or after 9pm re business hours of Monday to Friday. When I called the number I mentioned this and was transferred to the supervisor where I indicated I was complaining to their head office and suspected it was a scam. Mike Pierce provided me his id number and was very pleasant and indicated had a tight deadline hence able to work stat holiday and weekends. I indicated once I got confirmation they were legit, then I would call back. I have reported all info and details of all messages and calls to Stats Can and they have supplied me with a Case number. We will find out if it is legit. There is a Stats Can website listing the 877-604-7828 number but until the Ottawa Stats Can office clears it with me, I will not respond.

This IS Statistics Canada. However it might be fair to consider Statistics Canada a scam that one should be aware of.

I got a call from this people today. As I was not to provide personal information over a phone call I did not not initiate they gave me a code and a ref number.
At least the call back number looks legit as it is listed in what seems to be a a stats canada web page

Statcan nterviewer 2013-02-15 08:25:27 Unknown
Moron if you didn't call it back how do you know it's a scam? If it was us calling we would then persist and call YOU back ntil we get the survey completed, especially if it's a mandatory survey.
Statcan interviewer 2013-02-15 08:22:53 Unknown
Paranoia, DISTRUST. foolishness, really. Use the one brain cell you may own and think hard....would it be more cost efficient to send a human being out to every house in person to interview them? Wouldn't you love your taxes increasing to support that cost!!! It's a zillion times more cost efficient to phone people, takes a few minutes and the interview is done. perhaps you didn't complete all your census questions and that's why we called to fill in the rest. Do you have any clue about the purpose of collecting this info? Go view the video on the stat can website.
SCAM 2012-09-27 18:42:06 Survey
Claims to be StatsCan. This survey/scam has been going for several years using the same numbers.
Search shows Edmonton (St. Albert), AB location and Telus as provider.
Telus has no record of this number.
They also use 780-495-3929 in the evenings. If you call back you will get a live answer.
Asked to be removed from call list and received 2 calls next day from 877 number.
They have been on my contact list as scam for some time and display appears as scam so ignore call.
Scam contact list is growing monthly but at least I know not to answer phone.

I gpt forced into some stupid "mandatory survey"; I'm not happy! An attitude like yours, Matt, makes me less happy!
I am a free citizen, not your little marketing info puppet!
If you want my time/info, do like a REAL interviewer does & PAY me for my time!
&, don't be so naive -- of course, this info will be sold to the high corporate bidders! Just like census data is all sold!
So sorry you don't approve of our country having actuaal privacy protecion for its citizens.
So sorry this is the only job you're qualified to get!
sb 2012-07-19 21:32:35 Unknown
you wouldnt never answer a call from this number, they call from the local number that is assigned to their desk the 877 number is the call back number so that you are not on hold for as long. but nice try....
Lexi 2012-06-05 17:40:22 Unknown
Got a call from these people and they left a message on my work phone. Ridiculous and a waste of time.
matt 2012-04-20 19:46:13 Unknown
im not at work so no im doing this free of charge, you dont deserve to be a citizen if you're not educated to the point where you understand crucial agencies and basic statistics. You're just uneducated paranoid people. Im not saying this to be insulting, but rudimentary inspection into what we do instead of saying i hate statscan they wasted 20 minutes of my precious time to "sell our info" (EXTREMELY ILLEGAL) is just so ridiculously ignorant.
thanks
we use "matt" for 1st base 2012-04-20 19:40:53 Unknown
So the government is paying to to insult its citizens on the internet? Wow. And you claim it's a real job, too?
matt 2012-04-20 19:38:33 Unknown
no problem, cynicism forms a result of doing a job for the benefit of a country and being told to get a real job. 1 in 250 chance we'll ever call you and i hope we do for a mandatory survey lol. youre so brave.
matt 2012-04-20 19:34:44 Unknown
i can verify this, we do call back until you know and arent blindly refusing, its also easy to just help us out and do the survey. its for everyones benefit.
matt 2012-04-20 19:32:33 Unknown
we use phones because it's cheaper and more likely to get a response than any other method plain and simple
matt 2012-04-20 19:31:00 Unknown
i work for them its real chill.

Call your mother and tell her that.
matt 2012-04-20 19:28:18 Unknown

I used to get a letter with a form, this is supposed to be for the employment/unemployment stats. My problem is just because someone tells me they are from stats it doesn't mean that they are. If it is a compulsory than it should come in the mail so that I know which questions are legit. It get real anxiety when they call as I am a senior and alone. We are always told not to give any info over a telephone. So why do they insist?
go away 2012-02-03 02:46:31 Unknown
Professional privacy invaders INCREASE taxpayer costs and ANNOY EVERYBODY.
Go the F away. Get a real job if you can. Stop pestering people asking questions that are none of your business then selling the answers to your paying customers.
Disgusting business.
Dee 2012-02-03 02:42:17 Unknown
Not just the NPHS. They do several surveys there, than just the NPHS (National Population Household Survey). It's saves taxpayers money that way.

This phone number is listed on the Statistics Canada website at http://www.statcan.gc.ca/survey-enquete/participant03-eng.htm. It is legitimate.

darr 2011-09-06 15:42:08 Unknown
the calls from stats canada are getting rediculous- they phone every three months for something - they have the cencus forms -get info from there - wasting our tax dollars - make use of the electronic technology the government has. they phone every two hours and have p******d me off and so i put them on ignore
sb 2011-08-16 21:54:49 Unknown
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/survey-enquete/participant03-eng.htm try looking here. left side of the main page under info for survey participants at www.statcan.gc.ca
sb 2011-08-16 21:52:41 Unknown
if you dont call them back, they will just call you again. statistics canada employees are required to call until you are "educated" in the survey topic. it takes less energy to listen to them for 5 minutes than to try and avoid them.
