That's funny, because I just called USAA's Insurance department and they said they didn't recognize 877-627-2811 as a legitimate number and they had me transferred to the Fraud department to report it.

Actually, I just got a call from this number saying they were responding to my recent inquiry on Life insurance- which I did not make. So I told them I wasn't interested and called USAA right back. They did confirm that this number is from one of the vendors they use, but couldn't see any info regarding my call or my "inquiry". I'm changing my USAA paswword just in case, but from the phone number side, this does not appear to be fraudulent.

Claiming to be USAA life insurance but I called USAA on their listed number and had no idea who it was and said that they had not been calling me. SCAM

I got this call after reading this thread, so I was very suspicious and standoff-ish with the operator. She said she was calling on *behalf* of USAA, but that she did not have my member information. She said that her job was to merely transfer me to USAA if I was interested in a life insurance policy. (FWIW, I DID fill out a life insurance estimate on usaa.com a few weeks ago.) I asked her to transfer me, and she did.

The operator who picked up explained how this works; I explained my reticence; and she understood. She told me how to reach her directly through the USAA phone number.

I just confirmed this is a 3rd party number and is legit via USAA online chat:

Just got a call but I let it go to voicemail, it stated it was on behalf of USAA about a life insurance quote..I dont ever remember inquiring about it or starting a quote with them online. However, everytime I have to call them they always want to get me over to someone in that dept...interesting. Im about to call them about it.

Number just called again, this time I picked up just to see, I had a few mins to kill...  Man called on behalf of USAA, regarding my recent interest in retirement accounts, and said his job was to connect me to a USAA Financial Specialist, etc.  I politely thanked him for the call, and told him that I was good for now; he in turn thanked me also and politely ended the call.

Definitely a third party, but seems legit...  Judging by the comments on here, looks like people are split on the issue.  The third party appears to be a telemarketing company who follows up on customers who showed interest in various USAA products online.

Anyway, better safe than sorry though.  If you are interested in certain products, and this third party calls you, rather than letting them connect you, you can always hang up and call USAA directly.  Or have them connect you just to see if it's legit; ask for their ID #, extension #, etc; hang up the phone and call back.

Caller called on BEHALF of USAA...  This number calls every so often, I never bother picking up, and just let it go to voicemail.  

USAA is the bank used by the military for service members and their friends.  My wife is in the air force and that is who we have.  Great bank, but your parents/grandparents had to have served, or your spouse etc..  in order to have a USAA account.  Best bank i've ever had

I too got a call from this number 877-627-2811 this morning inquiring about my CD.  I don't answer calls that are unfamiliar to me.  I sent USAA an email inquiry for a fraud investigation but from the other post I believe I have my answer expecially since I too got the call from someone calling himself Sean.  Apparenlty though, my full name and phone number and having a CD was info he already had.  Wonder how he got that USAA?

I just called USAA Banking Services and asked them about the call I received from 877-627-2811.  She said that is a fraud call.  They are NOT calling on behalf of USAA.  She said do NOT answer, because they are trying to obtain personal information so they can access your account.  This information is straight from USAA.  She also stated that any call from USAA would show a caller ID number of 1-800-531-8722 and show USAA in the name area.

Yep, they just called me too.  Glad y'all were here to tell me it was a fraud.

I did ask for a USAA life insurance quote a few weeks ago, and (what I thought was USAA) left me a message about that earlier.  I don't remember which number called me for that purpose -- USAA or these scammers.

Pretended to call on behalf of USAA. Reason for call: "Financial advisor wants to talk about your savings account".I contacted USAA and informed them, there weren't any notes or messages on our accounts.

This IS a number associated to USAA Financial...IT IS NOT A SCAM!!!  I was uncertain when I got the call...but they did not ask me for any information...but said they liked to have a financial advisor talk to the customer at least once every year and he inquired if I had any questions about my accounts, and they knew exactly which ones I had.

This definitely seems to be a scam.  This number has called me 8 times this week, up to 5 times in one day, on my cell number.  I've directed them to place me on their no-call list, but doubt if they observe such niceties.

Just got a call from this number about life insurance (let it go to voice mail). I am a USAA member, but whenever USAA has had to call me the caller ID says USAA. I have checked into life insurance on their website and have received an email from them, but with an entirely different phone number. Guy said his name was Eric.

Valencia left a message posing to be with USAA Life Insurance dept. said I made a inquiry on USAA website regarding life insurance quote (which I had not...I would call USAA main number directly if i wanted a quote). I called USAA about the call, and they indeed stated that it was a scam. She said do not answer the call or give out any personal information.

Called me Dr..., Sometimes USAA refers to me that way but it is usually "Major." Where did this company get the information? Call was "USAA" responding to my inquiry on investment advice I inquired on USAA.com. Never happened. Interesting that before that, I had gotten calls from 877-540-2716. Nobody on the line. Repeated calls. Cannot call them back. BEFORE that, got calls from 720-358-6098. No answer, no message. Call that back and they say they are a "DO NOT CALL HOTLINE." Leave your number and they will put you on the list. 877 is an unassigned toll-free area code. I am particularly worried about how they get so much USAA member information that I do not give out. I, too, worry about USAA being hacked and their hiding that information. By the way-Google these numbers, and they all seem to be scams.

Got a call from this # today and immediately googled it while on the line.  I asked the person 3 separate times if they were "an employee of USAA" and all 3 times she said yes.  I informed her that her number shows on the internet as belonging to identity theives, and she responded with, "yes, ma'am."  Asked a 4th time if she was a USAA employee and was again told yes.  I'm calling USAA's main number and alerting them.

usaa uses a 3rd party company to provide weekly calls and to check on customers who put in inquiry in to verify their interest. if interested the company transfers to the appropriate dept at usaa. This cuts usaas time in half but not having to follow up with people who are interested. Not to defraud you as the 3rd party doesn't have any information on the customer

I guess this is USAA calling because I looked up their mortgage rates on usaa.com.  I wish they wouldn't be so aggressive.  I am already a customer for insurance, but I am less likely to use them for a mortgage if they keep calling me all day.

Like many of the posters here these people keep leaving a message stating they are from USAA.  Just as a caution, in the first call, the message has a dog barking in the background so I would lean towards this a fraudulent caller, and I think the person who keeps posting they called USAA and they confirmed the caller was a third party is most likely as stated before by someone else part of the scam.

NOT a valid USAA number. DO NOT give them your information. They called my husband about a life insurance quote we didn't request so we called USAA and they verified it was a fraudulent number. Spread the word!

Received a call on both my home and cell line regarding usaa mortgage which I do not have.  I did make an auto claim recently and usaa uses safe lite so I wonder if they are selling information.  I am on hold with usaa fraud dept right now.  I also received another call from an auto glass company and the only way they would get information is through usaa or safelite. The only other thing I can think of is that I am looking for a job so my information is out there.  I keep getting education calls that will not stop.  It's sad, I just need a job and the scammers are out to get you.  I am going to have my credit b,locked today.

On the phone, on hold with USAA Fraud Dept.  Something smells phishy, but they had my name and rank and it's making me mad.  Left a vm.

I too got a call this evening about refinancing my VA loan.  The message said they were from USAA and they called both of my phone numbers.  USAA and only one other bank has my 'other' number.  I'm worried about a security breach of my PII.  The call DID come shortly after I had submitted a complaint via the USAA website about the customer service issues I was having with the company they handed my USAA mortgage off to.  It seems as though they're connected in some way, but legitimately connected remains to be seen.

I recently refinanced my RV loan through USAA.  This number called my home and cell.  When I called it, a man (Sean) said he needed a few more details to close my loan and that he worked as a subsidiary of USAA/Wells Fargo Bank.  He asked me for my address which seemed odd since USAA always has that info.  I gave him just the street address and he said he was going to transfer me to an agent.  The call felt creepy so I hung up and called USAA.  USAA said there was nothing wrong with my account.  I gave USAA the number and they called it while I waited on the phone.  TOTAL FRAUD!  USAA informed me that this is fake.  I filed a fraud alert with them.  They knew my name, rank, home and cell phone and knew that I recently applied for a new loan through USAA (4 days ago).  Either USAA has been hacked or someone there in USAA is feeding this to someone.

They called me tonight on both my home and company issued cell claiming to be USAA federal savings bank with a new and exciting offer for my VA loan, I could tell just how the message was read from a script that it was NOT USAA.  I called USAA 1-800-531-8722 to report it and inquire if they have had a data breach as my work cell phone number is given to very few commercial companies (USAA & one other).

USAA always shows up on caller ID as USAA...this number 1-877-627-2811 shows up as unknown.  Don't fall for their fraud!!!
