Also, AmeriMark charges a "priority replacement fee" for every single order. They attempt through vague and subtle lack of reference ("your total with merchandise, shipping and handling and replacement fee) to make you believe this is a type of insurance when in actuality it's a WORTHLESS charge.

If the item is "lost, stolen or damaged" they will simply pull your items from the warehouse in a timely fashion.

That's it.

The trainer openly stated it is of zero value to the customer but in her exact words "AmeriMark makes millions of dollars per year from it"

Also in training you're told directly from the trainer "The elderly have money--don't let them cry poor" as if we're somehow ENTITLED to it via continuous monthly charges to their cc.

These are people who, again, possess zero morals and ethics. These scumbags want your elderly parents and grandparents money---plain and simple. These are completely unexpected sales pitches that take place at the very end of the call. It begins with "Thanks for today's order, and as a valued customer we would like to send you $50/100 in catalog coupons-----then the pitch to the elderly.

Scumbags---every single one of them. The workers are just doing their jobs--but it's the scum sucking management that gleefully encourages, rewards, and in every case DEMANDS the ripping off of seniors.

As a former "associate" myself, I can't begin to tell just how off base you really are.

AmeriMark TARGETS the elderly, period.

The employee handbook openly states a sales pitch is required of every eligible customer (which in any given day is usually every single customer that calls) and two STRONG rebuttals are required.

For what?

WORTHLESS programs that every single Amerimark employee receives for free yet next-to- NO ONE utlizes because of the inherent worthless value of said programs. No one in their right mind would pay 0.99 cents a month for all four---much less $29.99 per month (with an automatic renewal) for Passport to Health.

AmeriMark is a soulless, predatory company that preys on the most vulnerable---our nation's senior citizens.

The coupons are simply the carrot, as another former employee noted---and it's used relentlessly to lure seniors into taking a "trial membership"---and every single rebuttal first and foremost stresses coupons, coupons, coupons.

Every sales manager has a big board with their "team members" individual names and the ONLY metric---the only stat that counts and is given any weight is member ship sales and membership conversion rates ( ex: you're expected to "sell" a membership to one out of every 5 callers or so)

You think when you call in you're speaking with a friendly operator interested in taking and ensuring the accuracy of your merchandise order? That's NOT what they are. They're trained sales-people whose only mission--whose sole purpose is to bully, harass, sweet talk, many times LIE--say whatever it takes to get a membership "sent out". The best receive up to $4.00 per sale

These are zero maintenance memberships with little to no value. It's no maintenance because the company has a third party handle it all. Yes, if you prod and insist the company will offer to refund a portion---and if you REALLY threaten them they'll refund every withdrawal---but that's simply a cost of doing business to them--as they've already pocketed your money and it's earning interests via investment. It's casino cash to them.

They specifically target the elderly (who else orders via telephone from a catalog these days?) who don't have access to online sites such as this, who may not have all of their mental faculties and who are the easiest to victimize. AmeriMark KNOWINGLY takes full advantage.

The merchandise means little to them. The customer service experience even less. The do NOT care about the customer one bit.

As far as the so-called "disclosures" go-- that's a complete joke, They're read through as if one was practicing for a speed reading contest, and by that time the customer has already been thoroughly pitched.

This is an evil business and an evil business model. They literally HOPE that granny forgets to call to cancel (sending out the "memberships a full 10 days later contributes to that as well---why not send it out with the order?) so they can start billing the cc every single month.

They are a disgusting, filthy company run by people with no morals, conscience, or simple and the most rudimentary human compassion and understanding. They prey on the elderly, PERIOD.

This is a total scam.  I pitch junk mail and this company had no right to charge me $29.99 a month because I didn't reply to their junk mail.  I never authorized this charge.  If they don't give me a complete refund they will hear from my lawyer.

I just took over managing my mother's checking account and found a monthly charge for $29.99 per month.  Thank god the bank entry included a telephone number.  I called the number and found out this charge is for something called passport to health and is through a company named Amerimark.  The women I spoke to said my mother must have ordered it when she ordered something from the Amerimark Catalog.  They then took it upon themselves to send my some material about this passport to health and allegedly told her she was getting a free 30 day trial.  Here's the hook, evidently in the material they sent for her review, it states that if she does NOT want the service she would have to call them and cancel it.  Otherwise, they would automatically sign her up and debit her account in the amount of $29.99 per month.  Come to find out, they have been taking $29.99 per month since September 2010!  I am so angry that there are companies that do business like this.  They had no right to use my mother's account information for anything other than what she knowingly purchased herself....AND BELIEVE ME IT WAS NOT PASSPORT TO HEALTH THAT SHE WAS PURCHASING!!  They have agreed to refund all of the money they debited from her account right back to the beginning...$569.81.

Please beware of these sneaky companies who trick people into purchasing something they do not know they are purchasing and do not even want.  The onus should not be on the customer to call and cancel something they did not order!  Thanks for listening and please keep an eye on your Mom and Dad's accounts.  If companies want to trick them and take advantage of them, believe me they WILL find a way!

My friends checking account was debited money by 'AMK Essentials' for what, she does not know.  She made no orders from this company, or authorized any such deductions!  The bank was informed right away and the debits stopped.  New card is ordered with new number.  My advise to those that order stuff over the phone, or from the TV, using your credit card or debit card, be wary that others may take your card numbers and use it for their own stuff.  Pay either by check, or money order; if the companies don't like that, too bad!!  If you act quick enough you can cut the scammers off nicely.  The bank is going to investigate the debits.  Be wise, be smart; todays world is full of scammers ready to empty your wallet, and bank account.

They were deducting 149.99 out of my bank account and I just caught it. I reported them. I've been reimbursed for "a one - time" deduction but now I need to go back through my records and find out how many other times they've done it because on my statement it said, "recurring debit withdrawal" . . .

Another thing, Amerimark apologists:  If this program is so legit and the up and up, why do the customers have to cancel?  If this program is so great, why not tell them that the forty-five days are free and if they want to stay enrolled, all they have to do is give you authorization?

I used to work there--not in customer service or telemarketing, thankfully-and find it hilarious to find some Amerisuck shills on here defending this horrid company.  I used to hear these salespeople and their pitches and many times you could just tell--even from hearing only one end of the conversation--that they customer was confused and didn't know what the caller was even getting at.  I also know that the callers are pushed and pushed hard to get them to say yes.  Amerimark knows that most of these people will forget to cancel or even forget that they were even in the program to begin with.

Passport to savings is a joke.  They even tried to palm this crap off on their own employees.  I feel sorry for anybody that still works at that dump.  Then again, this company actually tries to sell products that have been used and then returned to its own employees.  Even stuff like used lipstick.

Amerimark Rep and Amerimark Buddy:  TOOLS.

ThatOneGuy:  They HAD her credit card number from her order.  That's how they get them!  That's how these people get on the calling list.

PTH is pitched by several companies owned by Amerimark - including Dr. Leonard's Heath Care Catalog, Carol Wright Gifts Catalog and others. It is a FREE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP and customers are told up front that they 'can call to cancel at any time within 45 days without being billed' and the cancellation number is given. The packet arrives in two weeks, allowing for an additional month to make the call to cancel. If the call is NOT made, the credit card of the customer is billed each month with an automatic renewal. The reason Amerimark is not in trouble with the BBB is because these calls are recorded and monitored to ensure they comply with state and federal regulations. Older people do tend to forget, and even for younger folks, the key work of caution is 'buyer beware'. If the customer agrees to look over the program, the info is sent and the cancellation call must be made in the time frame given. It is legal.

First off, don't kid yourself and say that there is "no hassle", or "no pressure".  I worked for them, therefore I know you're full of crap.  They hire anyone with a pulse, which is obvious, because they hired you.  You can say it's legal and within the rhelm of the law, but it doesn't make it right.  Sure you have a time frame to cancel, but what if you end up in the hospital?  Which is highly likely when dealing with people of age.  And they say it's ok to have a caregiver accept this program?  How is that ok?  They say if someone has the permission of a cardholder to place the order, then they have the right to add charges.  That is WRONG on so many levels.  If I give someone my credit card to go buy lunch, does that give permission for them to stop along the way and buy a stereo?  I don't think so.  But go ahead and live in your little world.  In my opinion Amerimark has ruined the reputation of what used to be a reputuable company.

ummm call them back? They will reimburse you. I used to work for a company similar to Amerimark, that they own and I had to try to sell that crap. I couldn't take it so I quit. I couldn't sell that to poor unsuspecting old people. It felt so wrong. Just keep bothering them till they give it back to you.
