Thank you for this. This was the information I was looking for.

Answered with company name and they hung up.

Thank you so much! I could not figure out who this was and a reverse number look-up netted zero results. I just financed a car from them so I guess I will answer next time they call!!

They have called six times in that last 24 hours. Every time I answer, they hang up. If this is a honest bank with a legit call, why do they hang up like a scammer, and why does the number come up as unknown? I blocked them, so they won't bother me anymore.

I have received numerous calls from them. I've had numerous loans through Ally and never received a call like this before. Finally one time I was able to answer the call and I was not about to give information to them when they should already have it. They just kept telling me that they wanted to make sure my acct was set up properly...why wouldn't it be? I only deal with one finance guy at one dealership and only loan my cars out through Ally? I told them to take my number off their list. My husband then talked to the dealership and they said they should not be calling and any acct information they can obtain from the dealership. They advised us not to give any information to this phone number. They then called a few hours later. My husband spoke to them and said that they can verify any information directly with the dealership and to remove our number from the call list. Then again the next day they called again. I told them again to remove my number from their call list. This is frustrating.

As stated above, this is Ally. They are a reputable bank (name changed from GMAC) and the purpose of their calls are legitimate. I purchased a car two weeks ago, the first call was to verify the information on my loan application and the second call was to set up online access. The rep did attempt to coerce me to enter my bank information on their site to enroll in Auto Pay, but I think this was only to secure on-time payments.
During both calls I was asked to confirm only the last four of my SSN, by the way.

I financed a car through them, the car dealership told me they would be calling to make sure I was a real person. Did so with no problems. Now I see their number coming up again and again w/o any message left. I'm hoping that they don't also have a telemarketing division! If that happens then I will tell them to contact me by email only and BLOCK their phone number!

I just bought a car and my credit wasn't great. I don't pick up the phone if I don't recognize the number. Having said that, now that I know it is Ally Bank, who took my loan, I will answer that but I have never been asked to give anything more than my last 4 digits of my SS#. If I did, I would not give it to them, especially if they called me. If it were me calling Chase bank, that might be a different story. Certainly they can verify last 4 digits of the SS# or maybe I will give them last 3...Piss them off.

Scam! Don't ever give out your ss# over the phone. I don't even have a car loan.

Has to be a scam I haven't bought a car in years and when I did I went through my local bank not the dealer
Jim 2014-02-05 03:06:02 Telemarketer
Stop calling me.
MeToo! 2014-01-20 00:36:02 Unknown
I had the exact same experience! Car loan, confirmed my information with first CSR. Then this number keeps calling. I finally answered and when I started asking for my information, I said it wasn't necessary. I hung up.

Yeah, thanks...I just bought a car through them and will be doing the online thing...I just don't like it when you call MY phone and hang up on me
Theresa 2013-12-03 18:33:47 Unknown
Three weeks ago I bought a car and the loan is through Ally Bank. I have already spoken to someone about the details the dealer gave them to make sure things were correct. But now they keep calling, but don't leave messages.

This is a good call IF you are financing something through them. I got a call but I just got an auto loan through them and they were calling to welcome me and help me set up my account online. Very polite, nice and helpful.
Russell 2013-11-19 00:24:47 Unknown
Ally Auto calling to help setup your account. Well worth returning the call between 9am and 9pm.
Gina 2013-11-11 18:13:52 Unknown
Same here. The most annoying thing was the "Please hold while we access your information" about 100 times and then they hung up.
Michigan 2013-10-05 14:09:31 Unknown
I have been receiving calls from this number and did happen to finance a new car last week. Hey Ally here's an idea--instead of calling repeatedly until someone answers why don't you leave a message explaining why you are calling and if I'm interested in whatever you're calling about I'll call you back?!? So annoyed by all these calls!
Annoying 2013-09-30 20:36:06 Unknown
They called me few times & I ignored it because I knew they will want my information so I wish they stop calling me
Mandy 2013-09-27 17:17:50 Unknown
After reading this forum, I decided to answer because I did just buy a truck. All I got was "Please hold while we access your information, please hold while we access your information, please hold while we access your information..." Over and over. No one picked up after a minute or 2 so I hung up. If this is Ally Bank, they need to get a different setup.
Kate 2013-08-23 16:40:23 Unknown
Thank you! They never left a message so I wasn't planning on answering either, but now I will. Good to know.
Ann 2013-07-16 22:41:36 Unknown
I have received several calls from this number claiming to be Ally Financial asking some very personal/important information. I don't feel comfortable giving my address or SS# to anyone over the phone. I feel something just not right about these calls.......SCREAMING SCAM!
Tom Barrister 2013-07-11 01:05:02 Unknown
If you just purchased a car with Ally as the financing bank, they're calling to set up online account management.
L Martin 2013-07-09 17:15:46 Unknown
Have received several calls from this number with no message left. When I called back the person wanted my SS#. REALLY?? If this is ligit why would it not be handled more professionally AND via the company that I have purchased a car? Too risky and suspicious and annoying.
julia 2013-06-24 18:30:00 Unknown
Thanks and yes last week bought a new car....
Sayra 2013-05-10 20:12:48 Unknown
I did not buy a car or finance a car, some other guy bought one and used my cell #, now I have businesses calling me all the time. Why would you EVER give your SS# to someone over the phone? You are missing a screw and too trusting. You people who wrote in with this over-kill of nice-ness for Ally are probably employees.
Dave 2013-04-25 20:50:01 Unknown
I also got a call from Ally Financial. I just purchased a car and they wanted all kinds of information so "they" could set up my account with the auto payment systems. I told them I would do all of that with their web site (secure?) at my leisure and I was not comfortable giving my information out to them. They were nice about it and answered all my questions, I also told them to remove my office and cell phone from any contact list. They agreed and noted it. No further sales pitch, or any other sales.
Susan 2013-04-19 13:35:23 Unknown
Great tip! Thanks! I just bought a car through them and was receiving the calls, but I don't typically answer calls from sources I'm not familiar with.
Chad 2013-03-18 16:53:16 Unknown
It's Ally Financial. I recently purchased a car and used them for some financing. All they are doing is making initial contact and letting you know about online account setup. Very legitimate
