This is a user-to-user board designed to share complaints about unwanted telephone scams and phone numbers. No one here can block a number for you. THAT is something that you will have to do yourself.

I have AT&T for my landline and internet also. I switched to U-verse almost 2 yrs ago had to canceled the TV service a week before the year contract was up due to too many glitches and poor installation errors. They still keep calling to see if we want to reactivate the TV service. I think they should be happy with 2 out of the 3 services and leave people alone

Calls everyday at the same time. Is from ATT Uverse.
I have told them I am satisfied with my current provider and never plan to change. They keep calling me anyway.
I have local service with them and this makes me want to seek out another carrier!

So tired of AT&T trying to pass off VOIP and fiber optics as an improvement over voice analog copper wire. IT ISN'T. It just a way for AT&T to make more money with a cheap, cheesy digital services. Analog copper always works. Digital? Just ask a neighbor who has U-Verse.

HOW TO THROTTLE BOGUS CALLS (updated 03/21/2012)

Ok, here's a solution if your phone has a contacts list--it works quite well on my iPhone, which allows unlimited phone numbers for any contact.

Step 1, create a contact named something like these names
           IGNORE JUNK CALL
           SCAMMING SCUMBAGS
           FRAUDSTERS LIST
                        .....

Step 2, select a SILENT ring type for this contact.  Or, select a distinctly unusual ring tone like
            CRICKETS or
            MOTORCYCLE  or
            RIFLE...

This lets you know if a repeat caller is on the line, but I prefer the silence myself.  My iPhone lights up showing the caller ID, even though I have a silent ring.

Step 3. Enable CALLER ID to be displayed for incoming calls that are made to your phone. It's a pity these stealth calls UNKNOWN, or OUT OF AREA, or their ilk, can't be blocked by any phone I know about. My iPhone won't let me put these names where the phone number field is entered.

So, what you do is to put the phone numbers of all bogus and scam callers that contact you, or try to call you, in this special contact.

Also, unless you recognize a toll free number owner, let all calls of this type go unanswered, and if no
voicemail is left, add the Caller ID (their  phone  number) into the                    IGNORE JUNK CALL contact.

Also add any other bogus calls
you get or know about, well they go in this contact too.

This may mean also all callers that don't leave a voice mail, or are soliciting you for services or products who you don't have a business relation with. And slime bags you don't want to talk to, like that jerk at the bar, or your ex.

For new toll free and also out of area calls: run these numbers
through Google search to see if they have been reported as junk or have been identified by others as scams.

Don't call an unsolicited  toll-free number back, it captures your own phone number, and you will get on other scam lists to call you.

Toll free numbers all have area codes from this list: codes 800, 888, 877, 866,  and codes reserved for future expansion include 844, 833, 822, 880 through 887, and 889.

FURTHER: Don't take the default voice mail prompt that came with your phone, because it usually
speaks your phone number and indicates you aren't around to pick up the call and maybe even speaks your name as well.

Record a new one
like "Sorry I missed you, your message will be appreciated".
Friends will know your voice. Scammers, not so often.

My list is long now, my silent ring saves me from tons of spam and scam, and yes, the do not call list is worthless, and toothless as well.

Please feel free to copy this post anywher, and to any forum.

Consider writing a letter or email to your phone supplier, or your congressman to fix this awful state of affairs, and to put some teeth into the DO NOT  CALL law. Ask them to shut down the services that allow fake telephone numbers to be used as well.

Between the twice-a-week Uverse junk mail and  the two-times-a-week unanswered phone calls for the past two years, I figure AT&T has spent at least $50 trying to get me to hook up to horrible Uverse service!!! What a waste of money.

Guess what , they aren't gonna stop calling -  they farm out the calls to contractors.   Ever notice they say they "represent ATT"?
When you ask them if they work directly for ATT they only say they represent them.  They get $$ for signing up anyone.  They dont care whether you care about Universe Uverse, or no Verse.  They only want to sign you up and get paid.   So there you have it -   make your own choice.  Alternative ? --- block their calls

You are 100% correct. I have AT&T for my landline/Internet and they are foaming at the mouth trying to get me to sign up for Uverse. They have telemarketed me relentlessly for a couple of years, and last summer they even sent a door-to-door Uverse saleswoman to my home. I discussed Uverse with her and when I learned that the "landline" Uverse telephone service was actually VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol, calls on fiber optic line over the Internet), that was a deal-breaker and I said I was not interested. VoIP is a lower quality calling system and you lose your phone service if there is a power outage, unlike your traditional landline which keeps working without electricity. But they are still pressuring me. I got tired of repeating to the telemarketer that I did NOT want Uverse, so I just stopped answering their calls. A friend of mine did sign up with them and he regrets it.  Uverse at his home was full of bugs and glitches, and even worse, they charged him much more per month than they had promised.

If this call was from AT&T, your making the world a worse place to live
with all your junk mail and retarted telemarketing junk. I need trees that give
off oxygen to breath. Not Bee killing high frequencies. You might want to think
about that before G-D decides to bring you down.

at&t sucks.  this is telemarketers given the green light by att to harrass the crap out of their customers to get them to switch to uverse.  Im being harrassed by my own phone company!  why?  cause  i dont have uverse.  what do they care?  uverse is fiber optic, NOT telephone wire.  It is basically running your phone call thru the internet.  I costs them nothing to do this.  If you still use phone line for your phone service, you are actually costing them money.  reason number 2 - if you switch to fiber optic uverse, you will be put on a 'plan' just like your cell phone  - your given a certain number of minutes a month for your home phone and if you go over you pay overage.  So its win win for att for you to go to uverse, and lose lose for you.  to the point that they dont even care if you switch to another phone company because you are costing them money.  they are just gonna keep harrassing you unless you switch.  isnt that nice?  what a great way to run a company (not)  they sure show their appreciation for your business right?

This is something to think about. . . .  If the people that are calling you are calling random numbers but don't know if the number is a valid number, when you call that number, you are confirming that your phone number is a working or valid phone number.  Just a thought.  I have been on DNC list and I still get these kind of calls.  I say "Thank Goodness" for Caller ID!

they call my home 2 times a day. I answered the phone yesterday and they told me it was AT&T and I told them I was not interested in changing my service and ended the call. Well got a call today telling me that they was sending a tech to my home tomorrow for my service I tried to explain that there was nothing wrong with it and he tells me that will hook up the tv service also. When I got very upset and told him I didn't order nothing and didn't need a tech and he kept telling me they was coming I told him that I didn't order and wasn't paying for anything so they better not send anyone to my house. He ended the call when I try to call back its an automated they but no one never asks the phone. I plan on calling AT&T tomorrow and put in a complaint about the calls
