The U.S. Department of Justice's U.S. Attorney's office for the Northern District of Alabama issued the following press release:

BRUCE WAYNE MOORE pled guilty to wire fraud and money laundering in connection with his scheme to defraud eight individuals out of $430,000. The plea took place late yesterday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Huntsville, Alabama.

MOORE, 59, of Pelham, admitted in Court that he engaged in a scheme to defraud individuals from June 2002 until March 2004. The business entities included in this scheme are known as Moore Financial Corporation, Moore Financial Corporation, LLC, Financial Corporation, LLC and M & W Financial Corporation. In this ?

Had the guy Mr. Jones call last December told him not to call our number ever again, we would not be paying anything. Called again told him we talked to a laywer and if he wanted to go to court contact my laywer. No calls till this morning now from a Mrs. Jackson, same company! DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION AND EVEN IF THEY HAVE YOUR SS NUMBER. They can't get any money from you unless you give them your banking information...SCAM!!!!! If they keep calling save your self for some peace of mind, CHANGE YOUR NUMBER that is what I am doing today!

A message from Carroll Gates  from 204-686-0005 was left on my answering machine. She was looking for someone named Patricia Edison. Coincidentally, sometime last year, someone called my number looking for this same person. I have had this number for six years so I doubt this is an issue of a real person being called at an old number. Anyway, this Carroll Gates character said that she needed Patricia to call her back about a time sensitive issue in which several arrangements can be made, including a lump sum settlement. She also stated something along the lines of having her social security number and needing to make a business decision but couldn't until she spoke to Patricia. She then left her callback number, 877-686-0044 ext 1041 and claim number 41055. She also said that this was not a sales call.

I was about to delete the message until I found out that my mom also had a phone call today from the same place looking for the same person. Obviously something is wrong here because what are the odds that someone out there is looking for this same unknown person and happens to call me *and* another family member at a separate residence?

The tactics this firm is using is HIGHLY ILLEGAL.  Do yourself a favor and call them back and make sure you record the phone call.  Ask them questions like "has this been filed for court" or "has this been filed with the police", "am I in trouble?", etc....  let them tell you about all the awful things that are going to happen to you, then at the end of the conversation tell them that this conversation was recorded and RUN to your nearest consumer advocate attorney.  You can easily settle for at least $5,000 in damages and never have to pay this debt.  Make sure you sue for not only the violation, but mental distress as well.  It will never even go to court, the agency will absolutely settle out of court.  Follow up by sending a Cease and Desist letter (google cease and desist letter bud hibbs, but any cease and desist will do) and make sure you mail certified, return receipt or delivery confirmation.

You are covered under FDCPA Federal laws.  Print this along with your recording and give to almost any competent attorney that will take your case.  See below.....

the number that call us was 240 686 0005 with CAHRA NEW TALEN on ID but # given to call back was 1 877 686 0044 with a reference # to use when call back and was a private investigator saying my husband was associated with the person of their interest. But when we called them back they were trying to have us ignore the call like didnt even happen. And my husband was insistant to get some of the information to let them know they cant just throw anyones name out there in mist of doing their job. WE have no idea who this person is,we do know 1 that happens to have same name. told them need to get all CORRECT info before upsetting people.

But when you don't owe money, you don't pay anything.  That's why people are saying not to call this company...they DON'T owe them money! Pretty simple, Bruce!!!!

I Did get a call from Mark Payne. He said I owe them money and laughed.  I said heres the deal I pay my bills Like a race but youre not first and are running a close second.  I got the threat he was going to come get me and take me to Jail. Do not pay B&T anything. I received the same threats as everyone else. These people are a***s!

I received a letter from B&T in the mail today and quickly panicked as it said that I owed for an old credit card that I had. Of course the last day that anything happened was 2004 which I have now found out is over my States Statue of Limitations. Thank you all for posting your comments and giving information and websites that i could check out. I now feel much better! I will be sending them a letter as outlined above and will be leaving it at that!!

These calls are from a collection agency called B & T Financial Services in Germantown,MD,20874

I did not get a call but a letter in the mail from B & T Financial Services that was dated 18 May 2011.  The address was a PO Box 1314 Germantown, Maryland 20875.  I went to their website and noted that the only name listed on the site was Tom P. Clark.  This was signed by BT Financial Services LLC.  The problem that I have with all of these fromer Chase Bank accounts is that I am getting calls from everybody and their brother.  I do not know who is legit and who is just operating another "boiler room" operation with a PO Box.  Not really too worried about the former debt since Chase got their bailout money with MY TAX dollars.  Since I have been laid off from my job, there is no "EXTRA" for the "bill collectors" to "collect".   As far as I am concerned, they can send that S#$@ to the "Supreme Court"!  Even if I get a judgement against me, it does not change my situation.  These companies can waste postage, send process servers, call me 20 times a day, contact my former employer, call my neighbors on their cell phones stating that they are looking form me, call my aging parents who reside in a different state and try all of their "dirty tactics".  However, I have read the FDCPA and can not wait for these M*&^%$ F*&^%$#s to call me!  They are going to get the "WRONG M*&^%$ F&^*%$ to F*&^ WITH!

i just recieved a letter from this company about a debt and i have no clue what it is,  says i owe $20,000 and i get my credit report every month and there is nothing on there for that amount anywhere. Should i send them a letter for VOD or just one that says this is not my debt and please do not contact me anymore..  i know for sure i do not owe 20k to anyone i think i would have remembered that.   i am not sure if they have called or not i do not have voice mail and my phone is turned off most of the time anyway. i had refianced my house a few years ago and paid off all my debts that i had.  Just curious as what i need to do send a letter or just ignore the letters from them and file a complaint with the attorney general in my state and in MD.

That is not entirely true.  There are 13 states that require all parties to the call give consent before being recorded.  They are:

California    
Connecticut    
Delaware    
Florida
Illinois    
Maryland    
Massachusetts    
Michigan
Montana    
New Hampshire    
Pennsylvania    
Washington

To play it safe, if you live in one of these states, ask them, so what are you going to do if I record you?  If they keep talking, I'd say, you got em.  If they say YOU CAN'T RECORD ME and hang up, then you're screwed.  THEY are in Maryland and I am afraid you cannot record them without their consent and have the resulting audio be admitted into evidence in court.

While I live in Oklahoma.  My state says I can record anyone I wish to and then share that audio without anyone else I wish.  I get around it by having a recording on my phone that plays before I answer that says "This phone call may be monitored or recorded.

When in doubt, RECORD.  It is better to have the recording and not need it than need it and not have it.

I just spent the last few yours uncovering this mess.  One of those ignorant people at B & T Financial called my house and treated my family member by saying I owed money on a debt and that they are sending the Sheriff to "take me away".  Funny since I'm never home :)  In any case, I am reporting this company to the National Association of Consumer Advocates www.naca.net and to the National Association of Attorney General www.naag.org.  

If you receive a call from 877-686-0044 240-686-3580, 240-686-3427, 240-686-0044, 240-686-0005, 240-686-3596 don?t pick up.  Let them leave a message.  They are starting to use some of their brain and called my home with a BLOCKED number.  I know it?s difficult, but don?t pick up BLOCKED numbers, allow them to leave their nasty message.  This way you will have evidence of their harassment.   If you do pick up, put them on speaker and record every last word.  Report them!!!! Personally, I am suing them for everything the law will allow me to sue for.  Message me if I can help anyone else or if you would like to join my law suite.  PLEASE REPORT THESE SCAMMERS!!!

If you notice now they want you to call them beacause their state is a two party state and without their permission you can't record the conversation but if they call you, you can record whatever you want.
NEVER CALL THEM. RECORD ALL CONVERSATIONS WHEN THEY CALL YOU.

I agree these are sick individuals and that Craig Jones what a fool. Good luck with your law suit I hope you take them for all they have and I hope you have recorded conversations but they do not want to settle their cases because they don't want to pay their not bonded so insurance won't pay for their law suits/damages so it's gonna have to come out of the owner's pocket something he doesn't want to do, my advice is if these fools don't offer you what you want in your settlement and you have recorded conversations give them 30 days to meet your offer and if they don't and you have proof of their damages, do not accept a settlement the owner will take as long as he can to offer I fair settlement that's what he does he plays game after game because he doesn't want to pay you, so you take the driver seat and go to court and you will get the amount you deserve maybe even more.

Great! The next time he calls record the conversation, tell him you will not pay him. He is going to curse and speak very ignorant but keep your cool and laugh in the inside because you are recording the hole thing, your next step is to file a complaint with the attorney general's office in your state  also note in your complaint you are seeking an attorney in this matter to settle the situation and your final step is to see an attorney who handles consumer protection or that deals with collection agencies.
DO NOT CALL B&T ALLOW THEM TO CALL YOU BECAUSE THEIR STATE IS A TWO PARTY STATE WHICH MEANS YOU NEED THEIR PERMISSION TO RECORD THE CONVERSATION.

Do not pay these fools one cent. They are blowing a bunch of hot air, they only time and reason they are going to court  is because they are being sued. They do not have any lawyers at this small collection agency (their house). If anyone receives a call from these fools record all conversations because they are going to threaten you especially if you say you won't pay them. Record the conversation and then file a lawsuit. This is easy money the more they get sued and are caught breaking the federal law the quicker they will be out of business and maybe even worse. I encourage everyone that comes in contact with these fools to SUE, SUE, SUE! SUE UNTIL IT HURTS. File compaints with the Federal Trade Commission as well and provide recordings this could even get them jail time for breaking federal laws. Don't drop the soap. HA HA HA!

Same as others posted. Left message from number 240-686-3580 as shown on caller ID but was asked to return the call to 877-686-0044. Said it is a civil matter and he is just trying to help me out. Yeah, right! This is a scam!!

There are no attorneys at this scum-shop! And I'm starting to think there are more people working in the business/home etc. than people think. I got a call from an ignorant (child-like sounding) Monica ??? asking me to wire money to the attorney direct which was another female....I called back and got several people and couldn't get Monica back on the phone.Finally, I got a more professional sounding woman on the phone and she said " There are no attorneys here at B&T "..this a collection agency. Then she said if I were informed to wire monies to someone else other than the owner Tom Clark to contact him directly.At the end of the day it wasn't worth the effort......but, after reading this and yet getting another call about my out of stats debt from the 90s'....I'm tempted to look into the legal aspects of this!!!! I recently received a strange call from this organization/number and the guys name was Craig and he was an attorney. He explained that my son owed his client money and he was about to send the sheriff and have him served.Well little did he know that my son is a state trooper and this was my grandsons' debt. I'm 85 years old and this was the first and worst attorneys' call I have ever received. This Craig guy used so much profanity I recorded it.Then he started slurring his words as if he had been drinking........ My son retained an attorney!!! We will see who gets the last laugh!!
