I got a call the other day saying I won a 200.00 gas card. I told the guy I didn't have a credit card with any money on it n he put me on hold n someone else got on phone "supervisor" anyway he told me they already had my card info from another site, which kinda alarmed me. But I wasn't to worried because I knew which ever card info they had of mine only had change on it. See when I purchase something online I buy a prepaid debit card with only enough money for what I'm buying. So to humor myself I asked which card he had, and he said the one that starts with 4. I said yeah all my cards start with 4 you have to be more specific, and he told me he couldn't give me that info I had to give it to him to verify that its me. I laughed n said hold on let me get my card and  hung up in his face. Said world we live in. Its hard to separate the honest from the dishonest:-(

What is worse on this, is I am getting calls from the people who have received these fake text messages.  I have an appraisal business here in Florida, and my toll free number is 877-789-5249.  Apparently, someone is sending text messages for a $200 gas card, and telling them to call this phone number.  The only thing is I am not the one promoting this!  So I have had about 20 calls so far from disappointed people!  I even went so far as finding some free gas card promotion on Facebook (at http://Facebook.com/MyFreedomBy2) which has a gas card promo.  I wish I knew where these texts were coming from - I got 6 calls today from people looking for a gas card

THIS IS A SCAM. This is a version of the advance-fee-for-something scam where something is a grant, loan, lottery winnings, interest rate reduction, gift card, doggie, cruise, vacation, free gas, etc., and the advance-fee is for tax, shipping, registration, secure handling, service, etc. They may send you a fake check, may want your credit/debit card or bank account number,  or tell you to wire cash via Western Union, Moneygram, etc. They can put recurrent difficult-to-cancel monthly charges or a 1-time charge on your card or bank account, and sell account info to other criminals and you'll have to replace accounts altogether. Wired-cash is irretrievable - once it's picked up at the other end, it's untraceable and gone. If they want you to call them up for instructions, they may tell you not to discuss the wire with Western Union desk clerks but the real reason is WU clerks are familiar with these scams and will warn you not to wire the money. Report to US Postal Service Inspectors https://postalinspectors.uspis.gov/forms/MailFraudComplaint.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Go to http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm and select "Wireless Telephone" and go to the next screen. Select the first option, "Telemarketing calls...to a wireless telephone." This includes text spams.

NEVER, EVER EVER EVER REPLY TO A SPAM TEXT! Aside from the fact that you can be billed for text and/or data usage, you WILL be put on a sucker's list. Most spammers used computerized blind-dialers dialing random numbers; when you reply, you are confirming 1.) that they texted a live cell phone and; 2.) that you took the time to read their text.

I received this text message and decided to call, knowing that it was a scam, but I wanted to know what these people wanted. A very Indian sounding man who claimed to be "Mike DeCruz", yea right, said all I needed to do was give my credit card info to receive the gift card. I asked if I could just sent them a money order, knowing well he would decline that, which he did. They claim they got my number from Walmart, which these scammers most likely hacked into , to get my info. I said it sounded like a scam and he insisted it was legit, stating that since he wont ask for the 3 digits on back of the card, he couldnt use the credit card himself... which was yet another lie!
Do not give anyone your credit card info! If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

I would not "TXT back STOP to STOP" A lot of time this is used to confirm that the cell number is a working number and then your number is added to list of cell numbers and sold to other spammers / telemarketers.

The best thing to do is to report this number at https://www.donotcall.gov/

Call Type is SMS.  Short Message Service (SMS) is the text communication service component of phone , web or mobile communication systems.
