The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

My employer received a call from a Michelle from Providence and that she was a Fraud Investigator investigating 2 fraud claims that I had filed and she was helping me look into them.  She said to call her at Ext. 323. I called her and she said her name was Ms. Jones and she was calling on behalf of Canyon Creek Mgt LLC aka CWBServices LLC and JVC Processing and wanted to know how I was going to settle a payment for $540 today or she was going to file a lawsuit in my county.  I told her that she and those payday loan companies are SCAMs and I was adding her and her company to my already filed claims to the FTC, FBI(IC3), Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, PA State Attorney General's Office and my IdentityTheft911 Fraud Investigator. I told her to never call again and hungup.  These Scam Artists are Extortionists and I'm sick of them calling.  I am also going to go in the FCC website to see if they also handle these types of complaints due to them calling via phone line.

I have received a message from this same number at my place of employment today at 10:29a.m. by a Ms. Celise regarding she received a "Claim for Review" in her office today, and that I need to resolve case #249015, and that I need to call before 5:00 p.m. or else this will go to court, and will be filed in my county? Well, Ms. Celise did not tell me the company who is suing me,What, Where, When, and why?  So if you get a call, do not respond to it.  I notified the FBI, and the Federal Trade Commission.

REPORT TO THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION, THE FBI, AND IF THREATENED, CALL THE POLICE!!!!!!

I have received phone messages at my place of employment and at work. The lady has an accent and I can't make out her name, which she says quickly, but states that legal action is goping to be taken and to call her back at 877-704-0515 extension 314. I have no idea what she is referring to but she gives no company name. My feeling is that any legitimate and reputable company would not leave this kind of message. I'm not sure if I want to call back in the morning, but if I do, I will ask them to identity the name and address of the company they are representing and what the matter is. I don't think any legitimate or reputable business would place such a call and not send a letter before they start talking about taking legal action. This is the first time I've received a call from these people, but they need to state who they are and send letters out before they start thinking about taking any kind of court action. This is probably just another one of the growing group of scam artists on the internet trying to get money out of people.

This is the same as another number, same company.  I am certain that they just rotate numbers. Here is the link to the other report: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-228-7719

Don't listen to anything they say; all of their threats are empty.  Good Luck everyone!
