According to BofA it's a scam
NJC 2011-06-06 21:04:45 Unknown
The phone number is legit. Bank of America is looking for people who have delinquent accounts. They will contact the number given to them by the person who has the credit card account. Your phone number may be a number that the person once had or they put your number down on their account. I called BofA and told them what was happening. They removed my number from the call list.

I got the same text as you all. I don't know how they got my phone number. I never gave them my new cell number.
Me Too 2011-06-06 21:04:45 Unknown
I don't have a BofA account but I got a similar text:
Bank of Ameria free text alert! To avoid a service interruption on your account, please call 866-918-2678 before 9pm today. To end alerts reply STOP.
jeff 2011-06-06 21:04:45 Unknown
this number is FRAUDULENT and they will probably steal your account number i called the real BoA phone number (the one on the back of my card) and they said they'd been having issues with this in washington and other states and that BoA will never text message or email anybody

I got the same message. When dealing with Bank of America, call the number that YOU look up yourself OR the number on the back of your card. My message says:
"From: 70650
Bank of America free text alert! To avoid a service interruption on your account, please call 866-963-1064 before 9pm today. To end alerts reply STOP."
This type of message is VERY out of character for Bank of America's text messages. Their messages do NOT look like this at all.
J 2011-06-06 21:04:45 Unknown
It can't be legit, because mine was about my citicards account, and I am not overdue or anything.

I keep getting the same message every freakin day!! WTF!! Its driving me up the wall. How can I stop it?

I received texts from 70650 and voice mails from 866-866-8753 to call 866-750-9099. I went to Bank of America’s website and call the credit card 800# listed under contacts. I did not want to call the number on the vm or txts in case of a scam. I got a hold of a customer rep and they said it could be phishing but she was unable to verify it. She would have to transfer me to their fraud department to do that. Spoke to the fraud rep who verified that my number was listed as a work number for someone they are tiring to get a hold of. I got the impression that this person has a delinquent account and they look back at any and all contact information ever provided in an attempt to contact this person. He removed my number and said it may take a little while for it to update throughout their system. Apparently they keep track of every number they get from their customers incase they really want to get a hold of you.

I just received a message from the 70650 number telling me to call 888-762-8347 for my Bank of America account before 11 pm today. I called, from a different phone, and did not receive any Bank of America type greeting or the music they play. I got a woman who did not give me her name or Identify the company she was with. She asked for my full name SSN and DOB. I told her that she would have to properly Identify herself before I told her that information and she would not. I hung up and reported it to BOA privacy. Waiting for results. Didn't make sense because the number for BOA is usually either 866, 877 or 800.

Got same message, but claimed to be Sallie Mae
Jessica 2011-06-06 21:04:45 Unknown
Got the text, called BOFA to report the possible fraud, and they were as nasty as could be about it. They said "card members have to be smart about these things". I'm not even a card member! I was trying to help them help their customers. What jerks.

SCAM! 706-50 sent a text posing as CitiCards. It looks like the same number was calling other people pretending to be Bank of America. Pick one bank scammers! How dumb is this?
