The automated call is from Sears Credit Card Account Services.  I do not like to enter information on an automated system so I hung up and called the number on the back of my card.  She did verify that a call had come from their automated system from their fraud dept.  I had recently used my card and they were verifying that it was indeed me.  I've had fraudulent activity on my card in the past so I was very grateful that they were being vigilant with my acocunt.

We just received a call from this number and called them back. Two charges had been denied to our card and they wanted to verify that we hadn't tried to use it. I'm guessing somebody tried to use it but didn't have the right info. One was over $500 and the other over $200. They are now issuing a new card. I'm glad they called to verify.

Thank you - well said and helpful.  Wish, however, that they wouldn't hang up so quickly.  Oh, well...  You have made good points.

I got it and looked it up on here and just found out it was Sears looking to identify if I used the card.  It is an automated system and they knew my phone number etc.  I had authorized those purchases---no big deal after checking out the number on here.

According to the Sear Fraud office which I reach by the CS number on the back of my Sears Card they don't have any numbers that start with 877 or end with 8300.

This is a legitimate number and phone call.  I got one yesterday and have had them in the past.  It is Sears credit card fraud dept.  Anytime they have charges that meet a particular pattern (of course that is a secret) they will call the card holder on the phone number that shows up as their number of record.  When you call back its all through an automated system and their never ask for your full account number or other such data.  You have to the verify the last 4 digits of your card, zip code, etc and then the system will say something like, "Are you Joe...........".  The information they feedback to you is only information you have previously entered into your personal profile with them.  If there is ever a doubt about a phone call of this nature, call the number on your statement or credit card and have it verified.  I have and it does give you some peace of mind when you call back to respond to the recorded message.

Received an automated call this evening 3-24-12, did not respond. I did call back the number left in my voice mail. Got an automated attendant, went through the asked questions (none were security risk questions), got a live person. A charge of $1,100+ had been made on my credit card earlier 3-24 in a state 2,500 miles from me, a state I had never been to or through. Canceled the card, I did call the 800 number on the aback of the card, was asked security question of my old card, as well as the new security question for a new card. This was legit-everything. Thank you Master Card.

Received two calls from this number today. Called them back and it is in fact Sears Fraud Department.

Just a heads up for a lot of you on here who think this is a scam: they request your billing zip code and last 4 digits of your card to verify your identity. They're not trying to scam you. Furthermore, if you have a Sears card and haven't used it and receive a call from this number, CALL THEM BACK. You might be a victim of credit card fraud.

The automated system is very simple and straightforward - you call, verify your phone number, last 4 digits of your card, and billing zip code. They will then read back to you the transactions that raised their concerns and ask you to verify them. It's a little confusing at first but they refer to the stores with very generic names. For example, Zappos.com becomes "the shoe store", etc.

877-719-8300 is a legitimate number for Sears credit card service.  It was a recorded call but they were trying to verify that I had indeed used my Sears card and that it hadn't been used by some unauthorized person.  Really glad they do that.

it is legit (and pretty impressive) -- I made a number of purchases back-to-back (gifts for something at church and I needed a gift receipt for each) and before I got home they had called to confirm that it was me using the card.

I also made a large purchase from Sears (refrig) had to return it, and exchanged for another, than added a protection agreement.  So this very well could be a legitimate call, but for each transaction, the fraud department was right there on the line each time.  This number didn't leave a msg, I never answer a call from an 800 number, or from someone I don't know.  If it's important, They'll leave a message.
As to my experience with Sears, the problem was a freak one, the exchange was more than fair, they gave me a sizeable discount for my trouble.

This number is legit; Searscard fraud service.  If you get a call and you have a sears credit card you should call back. For me it's always been either an unusual transaction event or a large purchase event. However it could have been an unauthorised charge event. One time when I purchased an unusual as well as very expensive item online I got the call as soon as I had clicked the 'buy' button (10 seconds).  If you don't have a Searscard it's probably a dialing error or an outbound routing error; Check your OWN credit card info anyhow especially if it's in the 'citibank' system as is searscard.

I received a call today from this number.  Not sure why I picked it up because I usually don't when it's an "unknown."  However, I was glad I did.  Turns out, it was from Sears credit card checking to see if some activity from the previous day was legitimate.  We had purchased some furniture and booked a vacation using the card for deposit.  So, the voice prompts wanted me to verify they were good, and were.  I had no problem with them verifying the charges, but they should at least have a recognizable name show up on caller ID so people like myself will be more likely to pick up, as opposed to getting another ANNOYING phone solicitor.

This  a scam. I checked my account and there was no activity that I didn't cause. They also asked for my billing zip code which Sears already has.

The call was legit.  It was from my Mastercard with Sears.  I did not answer, but a message
was left asking me to call concerning charges on the account.

I called the number and was asked for my phone number, last 4 digits on the account and
zip code.  I was then read a series of charges which had been approved, but they wanted to confirm.  I recognized the charges and confirmed they were mine.
