Got a VM this morning from "Dawn Martin at the Better Business Bureau" asking that the owner return the call to 888-995-0740, x119. After reading what's here online, it smells like a marketing scheme & I'm not biting. In my book, accreditation is earned. If they're willing to sell it to you, it's bunk. I think there ought to be a law against telemarketing in any way, shape, or form, period. These people are the scum of the earth - down there somewhere below corrupt government officials (which we have a lot of where I live).
Received a call from this number. Given the previous messages that it is the BBB is a little funny to me. I don't have a business.
Stop calling me
This number calls my cell phone, always after 8 pm. (FYI against the law in where I live). For one I do not own a business. I am a stay at home mom that takes care of my kids so unless you are going to start paying me to do so, stop calling my phone.. Thanks and Goodbye
I had this call on my business answering machine and my heart dropped. I called the number immediately to reach a dawn Martin at ext 130 and she wasn't y available. What is thus about?
Received what seems to be the typical call..."This is the Better Business Bureau. My name is Betty Something. This message is for the owner of the company. Please return my call at 877-754-3517, my extension is 118. I will be in my office until 4:00."
It was done in a very abrubt, urgent, almost accusatory tone which made me initially believe that I had done something wrong. This is obviously what they are going for in order to get you to call them back, but this seems extremely unethical. It took me until about the 3rd time listening to it to pick up on the fact that she said "the owner of the company" rather than the actual name of my business, which made me realize it was probably not entirely legitimate.
I understand that everyone needs to make a living and this is probably not their ideal job, but scaring people into calling you back is not the way to go about doing business.
This is a telemarketing program. BBB is just a union by another name. On an odd note, if the BBB has bad business practices who do I report them to?
Got a call from this number from Ed Burks. I called our local BBB and they said that the call was legitimate. I assume their just calling to sign up new members/accredited companies. Ed was very professional and courteous, but a little aloof about what the purpose of the call was. He only said that it was to get information from the business owner about the business.
Ed Burks just called my business and left a VM. He said to call his office at 887 754 3517 x117 by 4PM.
His tone was very authoritative.
BTW, KG, this blog is what we can do about this! :)
Thanks to everyone who has posted here to reveal these kind of very poor business practices from a company we are supposed to trust!
Got a call from Ed Burks, said he was with the BBB and needed the owner to call him before 4pm. Sounds like telemarketing. 1-877-754-3517 ext 117
Hey retards at the bbb....telemarketing is not the way to get people to sign up for accredittion. You are harassing people. Keep calling my office since you like getting cussed out.
Got a call from Ed Burks on our machine after 7pm, said he was with the BBB and needed the owner to call him. Sounds like telemarketing, the number doesn't come up for the BBB. 1-877-754-3517 ext 117
I agreed with you Cee Veen
I agreed with LY
good for you.
I like your reply message! I received the same message, and it's sound like a tread. I throught I am in troble or something. It 's not nice to call people like that!!! when you want there business!
I also was phoned. This is an UNWANTED solicitation. As for the BBB being non-profit, that is a joke. I am so sick of these BIG CORPORATIONS getting this type of tax status, it is a sham. This is a business, they make a BIG PROFIT and the execs in it get BIG PAYCHECKS and the corporation takes in tons of money, uses OUR public works and pays NOTHING for it, time for the non-profit abuses to be STOPPED.
same thing, said they were from BBB,and for the owner to call back.
Yeah ok..........lol.....get a life......people in nj are not going to give u money lol.......Here in nj if you dont like anyplace w say fck it go someplace else..........
kathy how of BBB calling for the owner says shes from the BBB 1 877.754.3517 extention 115 shell be in her office till 5 she left the VM
I have been in business 18 years in a small town. An employee took a phone call from the BBB , they stated they needed to talk to the owner about BBB language . Found this to be interesting and Google the phone number. I am glad I read other postings
BBB pls call Lenny Sherman
877-754-3517 ext 129
I am the Owner
Received a call from nasty Rosemary. Someone should kindly tell the BBB that you may think you are speaking to a receptionist or low man on the totem pole but you may in fact be speaking with the owner. We have been in businessd for over 30 years and do not need a rude twit calling us to ask us pay to make us look better. You might wanna work on your own public image.
Got a call from Kathy Howel from BBB. same thing... "talk to business owner, by 4:30pm". Called NJ BBB and they know nothing about her, they say it is a scam. Kathy Howel is not an employee of NJ BBB. NJ BBB does not sub out work or call owners to join. Call your local BBB office.
Better B***s*** Bureau
Got a call from Tammy Noble, ext 110. Googled the number and came up with the Greater Maryland BBB staff directory. Looks like they have high turnover - sure sign of a shady organization. Rosemary Diehl is still shown, but everyone else mentioned above is gone, and Tammy Noble must be new.
The BBB can give me an "F" for all I care. An "A+" is almost incriminating. BANK OF AMERICA has an A+ - 'nuff said! :-)
I received a call from the BBB, a woman named Terry Wilson, she asked to speak to the owner of the business, I said that person is not available can I take a message? She proceeded to give me her number 1-877-754-3517 Ext 114 and said please have the owner of the business call me. I said "What is it in reference to? She said she couldn't tell me but nothing bad, I said If you can't leave a message to why you are calling then you will not receive a return phone call. She said "Well I will just have to put that down in the report. (very rude person)
The BBB needs to be reported themselves.
We are a small company in business for over 25 years with a great reputation, and the telemarketing strategies are getting more vile every day. What can we do about this?
Got message from Dawn Martin - pretty much the same message, that the owner had to call by 4:00. Was BBB - Owner said she was polite to her and we would think about it. I'm not actually sure which to put this comment under since they have NonProfit and Telemarketer and this was a telemarketer for a nonprofit it seemed more like a sales call... So I selected telemarketer.
Ya know, this lady just called here too...nasty as all get out! I told her that we are a publically traded company...there are only stock holders, not "owner"...
She laughed and said, "well, I'm sure you are aware that there is someone in charge at your bank?" OMG, really? Yeah...that someone is me, dumb a**! If she was half-way nice, I may have had a conversation with her...but you can't expect people to want to have a conversation with you when you are down right nasty. What are they thinking? THEN, there are people with the gaul to write on these posts that work for this company, I would hide my face! You really need a new job!
I got a phone call in the middle of a hectic workday. A woman named Rosemary Diehl said she needed to speak with the business owner (I am the owner--but get so many unwanted calls) I said She is not available. She then repeated herself--I said " I heard you what is this in reference to?" She then repeated that she needed the business owner to call her back--and laughed. She was hands down the RUDEST SNIDEST NASTIEST woman I've ever talked to . I am currently researching who I can call to report her arrogance and rudeness. I would have loved to speak with her if she had been pleasent. But no--nasty and snide. Needless to say she will be hung up on if she EVER calls my business again.
The Better Business was sued in CT for "pay to play", the highest "grade" you can get form the BBB if you are not accredited and have a clean record is an A-, but if you become accredited and have a clean record, you can get an A+. The term "pay to play" means you can change your grade by paying.
If I am a consumer I would think an A+ is better than an A-, however the only difference might be one company is BBB accredited an one is not. http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2010/11/12/better ... to-play-scheme/
Got a call form them as well.
A Rosemary Diehl called claiming to be from the BBB. . Tried requesting to speak with the owner. I said "I am the owners wife. Is there something I can help you with?". Caller: "No, I can only discuss this with the business owner" Me: "I'll take your number but it's highly unlikely that he will return your call." Caller: "877-754-3517 x118 In reference to the Better Business Bureau Reporting Language." me: laughing out loud "okay."
How stupid do they think people are? Total waste of my staff's time answering the call and complete waste of my time.
