Correction: Not all student loans are subject to garnishment in Texas. Only Federal student loans -- Private student loans are virtually uncollectable in Texas

Chad, you probably did that by accident yourself. It's SUPER EASY to make that mistake by accidentally long pressing the entry of the call log or the text message voice mail you received, and then the 2nd press would be "adding it to the calendar" as a "reminder". It's only two clicks/pushes to make that mistake on the phone. Please just go check your list of current reminders, find that one, and then long press and delete it, and that should solve your problem of the phone reminding you to call back the number you had stored in the phone from them.

Some Dude that sounds High Calling for someone I don't even know. This kind of crap makes me mad.

This is for anyone who lives in Texas:
Some collectors will threaten to take your home or wages to pay for a debt. In Texas, if your residence has been declared a homestead, it cannot be taken to pay a debt except for debts taken for the purchase of the home (ie, a mortgage in default), for home improvements, for home equity loans or to pay certain taxes. Wages may be garnished only to pay debts related to court-ordered child support, back taxes, and defaulted student loans. Debt collectors cannot garnish wages for repayment of consumer debt.

This is definitely from 'world recovery services', which is apparently a pretty dodgy company and have some lawsuits against them pending from my quick google search. I made the mistake of answering one day, and they of course tried to get me to pay some crazy amount for a bank account (US Bank, iirc) that I've never had. I asked them to send me some sort of proof of the debt, and it's since been a month - nothing in the mail. They just started calling again.
T. 2014-04-22 16:44:51 Unknown
No message left. I do owe US Bank $$ so that part may be legit, but I would never work with a 3rd party like this who does not leave a message or provide me with information, (Name, company, contact info), up front. I will settle this with US Bank or there verified collection agent.

These people are called "Worldwide Recovery." They are a scavenger collection company which means they buy extremely old and often invalid debts from other companies. Even if it was once legitimate, every debt they buy is far out of the legal statute of limitations. They try to use dunning and intimidation tactics to get people to pay (with exorbitant fees added) debts that are no longer legally owed. Don't give them any information. They have no legal recourse against you and if they continue to contact you once you have notified them in writing not to, you can get an attorney involved and collect damages from them.

Obviously this guy is a fake.
I worked at an insurance company for 2 years. If we can't get in contact with the at fault party; we mail out the necessary paper work and continue to process the claim. If the state allows, and the insured is ok with and has it on their policy we will file it against Uninsured Motorist. Once we hear back from the At Fault Party, we contact their carrier and submit a claim against his policy.

These people have been calling me for over a year. They want some Debbie person. I'm not Debbie. They won't leave me alone no matter what I do, and they won't believe that they have the wrong number. They're convinced that I must be Debbie, no matter what. Last summer they filled up my voice mail to the point that I missed a message about a job interview. I don't know how to get them to stop calling, but it's annoying! I'm not even behind on any debts!
Deb 2014-03-22 09:57:43 Unknown
Received a call from this number yesterday...no message left. I do not answer calls from "Unavailable" callers.
Eisbaer 2014-03-20 13:23:46 Unknown
Also make sure the debt is even valid. Many of these companies pad the debt with fees before they sell them. You also need to see if the statute of limitations has run out, especially if the debt is that old. Many of these companies will buy old debts for pennies on the dollar and try to bully you into paying, even if you are no longer legally responsible for it.

First mistake (among others), my name is Morgan, however, i am not a "Mr."- Second- asking for my social security number without identifying who or what you are calling about.... get real. Would not identify who she was calling on behalf of but asked for a form of payment for a debt she would not identify.... umm sure lady- let me get right to paying you my money for something you cant even identify.... thanks but no thanks.

Keep getting calls from this number. We're on the Do Not Call Registry and don't answer unidentified calls. They never leave a message.

They called but no vm left, they will call 2-3 times a day for a few weeks and then stop. I did tell them the one time I answered that I was filing bankruptcy and gave all attorney info and they said I couldn't file bankruptcy on this bill but they never told me who the bill was from, so I doubt it is legitimate. I turned over to my attorney and he told them to fax everything they had on the bill but he is still waiting and that was 18 months ago. They never identified who they were (company).
They use scare tactics such as you are going to be arrested or they are going to come to your work, people if they are going to serve you to go to court, they are not going to call you and tell you they are coming to serve you, they just show up!
Chris 2014-03-05 15:29:19 Unknown
Received call, Tasha informed me of a debt that was paid in a Chapter 13. Gave her case number and advised her to look at court records. She was furious and hung up. Contacting my attorney today.

A call came in 8:30 est wanting to confirm my name and wanted the late 4 # of my SS. Which I told her to get lost and hung up. I have no reason for anyone wanting my SS # or name. I have no outstanding or past due debts. I know of no sums of $ that is owed to me. I would advise caution when answering these calls.

A rude girl called me and wanted personal information. When I would not give it, she said "well then you want the trouble that will happen when you don't pay your bills". I called the number back and a guy said that a Matsumi or Mustaffa, etc had given them my number and said it was his. Apparently he had a bad debt. The guy I spoke to said he would take my name off their list. Who knows what they were or were not up to.
