After my uncle passed away, about 2.5 years ago I traveled to New York from Hawaii in order to pay my respects.  During that trip, my phone died and as a result I decided to opt out of my previous calling plan with ATT. I soon went over to Verizon, and as a result I accepted a new number under the cognitive pretense that doing so was a good metaphoric way of letting go of some old things; at the time I was grieving...

Within days of returning back to Hawaii, I began receiving calls from various numbers asking for a man named "Eric Smith." I remained cordial and respectful and imagined that the issue would be resolved with time and a bit of patience. Guess what? 2.5 years later I continue to be harassed, receiving phone calls consistently at 3am or so.  When they have called at a reasonable time I have picked up the phone, hoping that each time will be the last time that I must endure a tone of rudeness, disrespect, arrogance, insensitivity, and un-provoked hang-ups among other comments too long to list...

So today, once again I received another call while at work and this time I decided to push back, fed up to the max....

At this time I am waging a war of sorts.  I have meticulously set up a "system," whereby each and every time I receive a call from these "bottom feeders" I am able to jam up their system.  As to the specifics of how I am able to do this I will keep to myself at this time.  But I can assure anyone on this blog, that these scum-suckers WILL NOT respond to anything less than the aforementioned protocol and tactics. And, in the highest of truths, I can't be sure if my plan will be ultimately successful, but I do know that they are beginning to wish that they never bothered me...

They are a lawless institution that actively seeks to ensure a corporate culture of entitlement with a confrontational attitude. The tone of their workers appears apparent that they feel that they are entitled to harass me (or anyone of their choosing) continually in the name of a nameless dollar that I do not owe to them, by any means that they deem necessary, even when they are told time and time again that I am not the person that they are looking for.  So I have chosen to fight back; and will continue to fight with tact, passion, and precision beyond their pay rate and certainly beyond the shadows of their own understanding...

I am tired of this harassment.  I am tired of being a victim and know all of you are as well.  It just took me a really long time to get fed up.  And now that I am at my wits end, I have begun to unleash a response that is intended to change their entire game plan, company policy and attitude, ensuring that they re-write and revisit their "handbook from hell."  Let the war of peace begin...

Their actions are a form of borderline psychological terror and unceasing.  They are spineless. They are vulgar. They are entirely amoral. The time has come. The time is now. The "sleeping elephant" has awoken. I am pissed. I am ready. And I WILL and have begun to initiate tactics that will bring them down. They are bullies. And their time is up, so help me GOD!

There is hope. And that hope is now!

I have received several phone calls sporadically over the last 3-4 years since filiing for bankruptcy. I lost my job in early July of 2008, and almost immediately declared bankruptcy and hired an attorney. I always call these places back, they claim they are calling on behalf of a payday lender. If I don't call back, they continue to call relatives (since my number is now different, apparently they are too lazy to look up that particular fact). Last week they called my uncle's aunt's parents in a different state. I haven't seen them in years and we're not even blood related! Anyway, I called back a second time and tried to obtain a business address and was told they don't give out that information. I laughed a little and said, "Why, because you don't want to get in the middle of a lawsuit?" Click.

Main part of the story I want to stress: If you DID borrow money and did NOT pay it back, for whatever reason, do not trust any of these places. I don't believe they have any grounds for legal action and they are indeed scammers. No one could tell me who gets the money if I pay, the amount they said I owed was wrong, and the whole thing is phishy.

Debt Collector
Caller ID showed 417-622-0322 (Joplin, MO) and the voice mail said it was Mary Jones with First National Collection Bureau calling about a debt and to return the call at 877-769-0760.  I have no credit cards, no debt but my house payment.  No clue why they'd call me.

I got a call from this number for another individual who doesn't live at this address.  I press 1 waited for someone to pick up and then explained to them that the person doesn't live here and please stop calling my house.  The individual had a nerve to ask me do I know them and can she leave a message for them.  I told them I'm not employed by them and I will not be doing their job for them just please stop calling my house.  Then I hung up.

This number is leaving me voicemails claiming to have some sort of "legal document". Legal document? I'm fairly certain this is the same company calling to try to collect a debt from my old bank, where there isn't actually any debt (not on my credit report, and I also have a letter from the bank stating all over-draft fees and associated fees were paid in full and closed BY ME). I smell a scam.

That aside, if ANYONE is EVER treated in a way by a "collector" in a threatening way (I've had one threaten to send cops to the house and have me arrested), screaming at you, demeaning you, etc.... as a former collector myself, look up the FDCP Act (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) because it is against the law for a debt collector to use these methods of intimidation. Take some legal action and show those jerks they are not above the law!

I have also been getting calls from this number on my cell phone.  When I answer a machine asks for a person I do not know.

I have only had this phone number a short while but will probably need to change it if the harassment continues.  This is ridiculous.

I have gotten many calls from these people in the past few months. They are always looking for some lady who I don't know. I usually hang up, but I went through the process of hitting the keys to tell a representative they have the wrong number. I didn't talk to anybody because my boss came up to me at this point and I put my cell on my desk, but I could hear a lady at the other end of the line yelling "Hello! Anybody there?" for a minute or so while my boss was talking to me.

Prior to today (9-20-10), I had received two automated messages for a William person whom I am not familiar with.  The third time they called (today), I answered the phone and waited on the line to speak with a representative.  The representative addressed me as William.  I said I am not William (obviously, I am female) and that I did not know anyone by that name.  The woman then asked to me to put William on the phone.  I repeated that I did not know such a person and asked not to be called again.  The woman then asked how long I had my phone, she spoke to me as if she thought I was being dishonest.  I told her I had had the number for two and a half years.  She then asked me why William would use my number in a very skeptical and rude tone.  I told her he didn't use my number or he used my number fraudulently.  She then raised her voice and exclaimed "how you gonna tell me what number he used?!?!"  I again told her to never call my number again.  She continued to yell, asking to speak with William and I hung up.  If they call one more time, I will definitely follow through with the proper reporting procedures with whichever organization deals with these matters.

The person from this number keeps calling my elderly 91 year old mother--I answered the phone this morning but the person hung up on me.  Can these calls be stopped--it seems to be a form of harrassment--can the Better Business Bureau be notified.

Called our cell looking for a christos devert or something like that.  Kept saying that if it wasn't I should hang up... I stayed on the line.  Then the machine went on about a collection attempt for a debt.  I don't know who would give this number out but I'm sure its a b*llSh*t company!  I hit 0 but it just hung up the call.  Oh well. If the co. ever reads these post on 800notes, I would like to say: You guys are calling the wrong numbers purposely I think!  And by doing so whoever you're really after is not getting these calls and therefor you will never be getting your so called "debt" owed. And I laugh at that, cuz you don't deserve the $!

They have called me twice about a debt owed by someone else with my same name.  They have been told that my SSN number does not match the one they have on file and they called a second time.  Now I find out that they have shared my credit card number and I am receiving meberships to clubs I know nothing about.  When I call to cancel these memberships they give me the name of this company as the one that shared my information and signed me up.

same as what others here say: I pick up the phone and am greeted by a machine who wants to know if I am (some name). Well that's not me, and I don't talk to machines. I hung up.

Aren't calls by machines illegal?

They called my elderly parents several times claiming to be collecting a debt (which they did not owe). They tried to get them to disclose some personal information. Fortunately, they did not. Called back several times until they threatened legal action. I called the number back and they answer as "SNCB" of "SNCD" when called back. I am a Private Investigator and tried to track this number down through databases I use and also the company name and both come back with no records. Looks like this is not legit - Do not give out info.
