Me too. This number keeps calling me and I answer to hear a dial tone. This time I took the number down to look it up on the internet. There are many entries over different sites on the topic.

They keep calling my cell phone. It is now up to 5 calls, at least, a day.

Same thing for me too. Pick up, and no one is there.

This number shows up on the caller id when I answer (as receptionist), no one is on the other end. This needs to end as this is an International company.

Some random person who could barely spoke english told me to call this number. Since I have an account with Sallie Mae, I didn't hesitate to call. And when after they asked me for my information, she said she was going to transfer me but after a brief moment with the wait music the phone hanged up on me.
I'm just called the real Sallie Mae number off their website, and apparently it was a real Sallie Mae number (the one on topic). Apparently its just a really poorly managed division of Sallie Mae.

You pick it up and get a dial tone right away. Reading this, I don't have a Sally Mae account. I am always current on all bills. There is absolutely no reason I should be getting a call from a collection agency, much less a call that no one answers.
I doubt that their system is calling by mistake. If it was by mistake, it's taking up their resources as far as their physical telephone system and their personnel. Any company would be cutting inefficiencies. This has to be part of their collection scheme and they must be doing it on purpose. Problem is, they call and bother lots of people that have nothing to do with any unpaid debts. I must be getting this call on the average of twice a day.
I remember months ago I did get a phone call for a different person from a different phone number. A real phone call and I let them know that is not me. Maybe it was the person occupying my desk before me.
I suggest we all report this to the Better Business Bureau.

I take that back, I called the 866 number from my first posting, being rude myself, but the woman answering was actually very nice, didn't hang up, and she said the calls are generated by the system, but she didn't know why no one spoke on the other end.

I confirm, all these experiences have been happening to me. I have a Sallie Mae account, have been in contact with them about an issue, and they won't stop calling. Sometimes they call about once an hour at least. A second Sallie Mae number calls me as well: 866-493-6512, which I called back and rude personnel hang up when I ask questions.

I received two calls today from this number. One on my Vonage line, the other on my cell line. I called back and someone (male) answered and spoke so fast I couldn't pick up what he said. I told him I received a call on my cell from this number and wanted to know who it was. He asked for my cell number, and I refused to give it to him. I asked again who it was who was calling my number. He replied, "I can't help you if you can't provide that information." At which point I hung up and researched the number online.

This number keeps calling me at work. Not sure how they got my work phone number - I don't give it out. All I hear when I answer is a dial tone. Keeps calling me at work!

I had the same issue this past few weeks: My phone rings - I answer - goes to dial tone. I called 877-770-5619 and was told it is Sallie Mae collections and they were unable to leave a message etc... They asked for SSN and other info to check my account, I said no, they said that I must owe them money and I should pay. I had them check my telephone number they called and he was unable to verify who I was or if I owed them money.
Hummm... the telephone number they called is my cellphone, my cellphone is not tied into any of my personal affairs. I am in law enforcement, I've seen enough scams over the past years, >REMINDER: DO NOT EVER GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFO TO ANY WHO CALLS OR SOLICITS YOU OVER TEH PHONE OR INTERNET<. If you initiate the contact with a merchant that may be a different story.
Oh, by the way, I don't have a Sallie Mae Account.

These calls are repetitive -- very rude personnel. Will not answer any questions, just hang up! -- calling my number by mistake -- very difficult to get them to stop -- still trying. Will be reporting to proper authorities. Rude and persistent even though they have wrong number!

At work in Dallas, TX, this number just called, and also called yesterday...They call on our business line (we have caller id), and asked for a co-worker of mine.. Of course she's on vacation this week... Ready from the other posts that this is Sallie Mae Financial... She has 3 sons who all used her either as a co-signer, are she just plain took out a loan for them for the trade schools they attended like ATI Institute, etc...

I just received a hangup call from this number at 8:06AM PDT. The phone rang twice, and I picked it up only to hear a dial tone. My phone rings three times before going to voice-mail. - g^2

Sallie Mae. A supervisor told me it's an auto-dialer that frequently calls people even if their accounts are in current status. Very rude representatives hang up if you ask any questions. They get paid by the amount they take in, so if you are current on your accounts, you don't represent income for them, so they terminate the call. Do NOT give your SSN or DOB to them and do NOT do business with Sallie Mae if you are interested in a company that respects your privacy and business.
