If you actually read her blog, she does not object to the census itself, but rather the software used to process it online, as well as the long form census. Well good news! There is no more long form census! It's now a National Household Survey which is voluntary! However the short form census is still mandatory. If you're receiving this 1-877-777-2011 number on the cards being left it's because you haven't filled out the mandatory census. The helpline for the National Household Survey is different.

And besides. Sandra Finley used those argument in a court of law and lost because she and her attorneys did not meet the burden of establishing a breech of privacy because there is none. The current legal proceedings argue whether the collection of personal information by the government for statistical purposes is a violation of Canadian privacy is still ongoing with her impending appeal, but that does not mean the law has changed. It is still your legal requirement under the Privacy Act and Statistics Act to fill out the short form census. If someone were challenging laws the Criminal Code of Canada's definition of murder that does not suddenly make murder legal while the law is being challenged. If you filled the online census that you got in the mail with the internet code, then you have discharged your LEGAL duty to provide the info. Note that in that mailout it says LEGAL duty. The one they send out after and which is related to the dicks who call you on the phone does not state anywhere on there that you HAVE to do it by law.

I have dealt with these s****ags twice over the phone after several attempts to call me - I told them what I have written here. They CONFIRMED it. You DO NOT have to provide info for the HOUSEHOLD SURVEY if you already filled out or provided info for the CENSUS.

Looks like you need to look up the Statistics Act of Canada and the Privacy Act of Canada. The census isn't new. This census is required by the section 8 of the Constitution Act, 1867. It has been done in this country every ten years since 1871, and every five years since 1916.

They've sent me three forms to fill plus the online one. Six calls and six visits to my home so far, where they left a yellow request to fill out the census. I'm not home often, so they'll have a hard time tracking me down.
My issue is that they already have all my personal info, so what's the point. Census info has been used to track and identify groups in the past, think jews and japanese. Who's next, muslims maybe? I don't know, I want no part of it.
How much is this all costing us? How long will the canvassers be paid to enforce this?
Sandra Finley is refusing to fill out the census again. Are they going to take her to court again?

had pushed the envelope and did not fill out the census form as requested.  Starting in the 3rd week of June the stalker from Census Canada rang my door bell 3 times a day for 6 days in a row.  On the Sunday I had my family over for dinner.  The Census Canada canvasser hid behind the wall of my garage waiting for me to open the door for my guests.  She then popped out and explained this needs to be done or I could be jailed for 6 months and receive a $500 fine.  She explained that currently there are 30 people in the area she is stalking and I'm one of them. As a Canadian of course I was appalled to be treated this way and harassed by the government.  My late father always believed that Canada would turn into police state like country.  I can not fathom with all the technology how this facts can not be purged. uploaded or shared in someway..frankly I'm pissed off..

If people don't fill out the short-form census in the next few weeks, Statistics Canada will call and mail reminders before knocking on doors.

If that fails, people could theoretically face a $500 fine or jail time, although no Canadian has ever been jailed for failing to fill out a census.

It's for the Census. It's a requirement by law to fill it out. If you keep getting calls it's because there is something wrong either with how you filled it out, or it got lost in transit or something similar. Whatever reason, your census isn't in the system and that's why they keep calling. Filed mine yesterday... may 31st and I received 2 consecutive phone calls from them... wonder what they could possibly want now??

Oops - just got this call and realized I haven't filled mine out yet either when I came to check the number.  Better fill out the form if I want the calls to stop!!

The Gov't of Canada sent me a2011 Census form with the information to complete on line at the access code I gave!!
