Someone from the number 202-607-2733 called my home again. I've lost track of the number of times they've called. The answering machine is ALWAYS set to pick up and field calls, but they never leave a message. Caller ID listed "BCR 8777881060." I didn't know anything about this company until I came here today.

scammer bottom dweller collection scam agency that buys old outdated debt for pennies on dollar the original companies wrote off or closed accounts. Then they start calling whether judgement passed, or statute expired, trying to collect. Block them from your phone works, however some of these a***oles use prepaid phone cards or local numbers that will appear on caller id, so you might think it is friend, family member, or local business, only to have them ask for 'spouse' and 'personal business matter'. I told one if my wife had any debt it was MY personal business matter and they hung up quickly.

Got a call from Bureau of Collection Recovery, 7575 Corporate Way, Eden Prairie, MN  55344  I did not talk to anyone but answered the call and immediately hit the # button 15-20 times and then ended call.

I understand from others on this site that they are harassing many others also.  I do not have any outstanding bills or do not owe anyone anything.  I am also on a Do Not Call List.  Why are they harassing me.

PLEASE SHUT THEM DOWN.  THEY ARE A NUISANCE!!

WARNING these bottom dwellers use a tactic of calling from one number, then quickly calling from another. So can catch you off guard. They buy "old debt" that some companies gave up on many years ago (ie: statute of limitations ran out) and now try to collect. That is, if they even have information right at all. I had THREE calls fro them in matter of five minutes...one of them is 10118777881060 indicating they either don't know what the hell they are doing and can't operate a telephone and quickly followed by 877-788-1060. I owe no debt and do not know why or how they got my number but they are all blocked now.

SIDE NOTE: if you DID happen to answer guess what, these idiots now have your number listed as 'live' whether or not you were intended target or if their information outdated or incorrect, you are still LKC. (last known contact) so expect more calls.

Guy called asking for spouse. If these a***oles and that is what they are, A***OLES call you, ask THEM questions. He asked for my spouse I asked him who is calling. He said it is private business matter. I told him can't be too damned private if he is calling ME on MY phone. I said you need to identify yourself. He asked if spouse at this number, I asked to talk to his manager. He would not identify himself, I would not give him any information he wanted. You have to realize that the worthless "do not call lists" are just that..worthless, when it comes to these bottom dwellers who buy old debt or are trying to collect on old debt from last century.

They use all types of tricks including calling then hanging up, using ficticious names with you, then 'mysteriously' asking if correct name person there, that way they can mark it as a lead. And continue to harass you. In my instance the number is 10118777881060 so appears overseas in UK or Australia.

Suggestion is to BLOCK them from your phone. Do NOT under ay circumstances, answer any of their questions period. They are phishing for leads, any lead, to justify their existance. And should they catch you off guard and you say 'yes, my husband/wife not here' they will mark it as a open lead and continue to call day and night.

Here's is some legal action taken against these scam artists:

Government Actions

The following describes a government action that has been resolved by either a settlement or a decision by a court or administrative agency. If the matter is being appealed, it will be noted below.

The Minnesota Department of Commerce entered into a consent order with the Bureau of Collection Recovery LLC. The Eden Prairie - based Bureau of Collection Recovery LLC has been charged with 1) directing employees to change the dates of scheduled payments; 2) changing the dates of deposit for postdated payments; 3) failing to establish adequate screening procedures when hiring collector applicants; 4) failing to properly screen numerous debt collector registrations before submitting license renewal requests to the Commissioner; 5) employing collectors with felony criminal backgrounds; and 6) failing to notify the Commissioner of employee terminations for using profanity, third party disclosure violations, and harassing debtors.

In response to these charges, Bureau of Collection Recovery LLC has taken corrective action, including: 1) establishing new procedures to strengthen their screening process; 2) submitting that screening process to the Commissioner for review; 3) subjecting all current debt collectors to that screening process; 4) auditing employee records of terminated employees for the last five years; and 5) establishing auditing procedures and agency policies to ensure that criminal convictions of its debt collectors are promptly reviewed and acted upon.

Bureau of Collection Recovery LLC has also been ordered to pay a civil penalty of $150,000. More information can be viewed online at www.commerce.state.mn.us.

This is a complete scam. I have been contacted by these people a few times. Each time they asked for my wife and I told them she was not home. They began to tell me that she had a bill owed from a few years ago and I should make a payment for this. I asked the guy what the bill was for and a few questions about this. He then answered all of my questions.

Ummm.. I'm sorry Mr. caller guy, no credit reporting or debt collecting agency would ever give out any of this information to anyone other than the person who had the debt.

I then told them to call back in an hour as she would be home. When I answered the phone the second time I said. "This call is being recorded for legal purposes. How may I help you."

hummmm...  I wonder why I haven't heard from them since.

Don't believe anything they say. They are tricky and may have very little information but none of their crap is real.

Do not make a single payment to these people without written verification from them that (a) you owe the bill and (b) that they have the rights to collect it. They must provide this to you in writing. Send a certified letter requesting this info.

In writing ask these people for a copy of the c tract they have to do any collection with the firm they represent. Send it certified mail. They must respond in 30 days or the supposed debt becomes uncollectable. Do not call back.

Someone called and said that they were from"BCS" and they wanted to discuss my accounts. I told them that I never conducted business that way and hung up. They rang me right back and I just picked up and hung up immediately.  I have never done business with a "BCS" and how they got my number, I don't know. My phone is on the "DO Not Call" list.

Keep getting phone calls from this number, because of my job, I can't answer my cell phone during the day, so by the time I can check my voicemails, I just get a long string of hang ups. They never leave messages, and I've received nothing in the mail to clue me in on why they are calling. It's kind of stupid that they call 3-4 times a day, and they know I'm not going to answer. They don't leave messages, so how do they think I'm going to be able to call them back?

I've decided to block the number on my cell (Galaxy S3) and through Google Voice.

This is the Minnesota company that backs up surrounding companies like Sportsman's Guide that sell "quality" merchandise and try to fool the customer into paying 50% of the price of the item for shipping and then switching to a sub-standard shipping method that legitimate sellers use as their free shipping option. Use caller ID to screen your calls and ignore all calls from them.

From what I've been able to put together, Tom is right. This company buys old debt and collects ANY way they can! They claim I bought books totaling $80.66 sent to my current address before I EVER lived here. I told them I wanted to investigate their claim because I had no recollection of this old debt (September 2006) and all I got was "Tony Thompson's" insistence to give my bank info over the phone and settle the debt for $60!
But I had to do it right then & there. I told them I would order a copy of my credit report (which shows no such debt owed!) and get back to them. They claimed I could access my account by going to their website www.bureauofcollection.com. I told Tony Thompson there was no way anyone in their RIGHT MIND in this day & age would EVER give debit or credit cards over the phone to anyone who made such claims. And if the debt WAS MINE, having no verification before giving said information was still CRAZY!
I think they try whatever tactics they can to get any $ they can. Obviously, someone who lived in my house before I did owes the debt, and they will keep calling because they have no other way to find previous owners!
By the way, I did get another phone number from their website:

Bureau of Collection Recovery Inc.
7575 Corporate Way
Eden Prairie, Minnesota 55344
ph 800.831.7311
Business hours
Monday - Thursday 7 am - 9 pm CST
Friday 7 am - 5 pm CST
Saturday 8 am - 1 pm CST

Again, There was no way this debt was mine, and they still were willing to take a payment over the phone with me. When I did go to the website, the only information I could get on this collection recovery was my own name and address and the amount owed. I can't believe that NO OTHER information was available. The ONLY option you get is TO PAY. No where can you dispute or claim that this debt belongs to someone else.
These calls continue to come from 877-788-1060. I have gone to my phone provider and asked for this number to be blocked. That's my advice to anyone with a phone. Find out what services your provider offers and have this company's number blocked.

This Company tries to collect on old debts. There is usually (99% of the time) is no hit to your credit score and there is usually, (99%) of the time) no legal action they can take. They, in laymans terms, paid the debtor to own the debt. Then they collect the debt however much they can and thats how they make their money. Been dealing with them on and off for 10 years. They always threaten to sue and blah blah blah....but they haven't yet and the debt I had was never on my credit score and never will be and honestly, worse case scenario. Anyone can handle one bad mark.

So, I've been getting calls from these people for weeks now.  It's regarding an old AT&T bill.  I don't remember the amount they say is owed.   I 've tried repeatedly to calmly explain that I have never ever EVER had an AT&T account so they have the wrong person.  I've asked them to stop calling.  They continue.  They keep asking for my SS number.  (ya, fat chance on getting that)  Apparently I have the same name or similiar enough name to the person that supposedly owes the money and they think I'm lying..  Not sure what to do but they are pissing me off.  So far no mail from them but they do continue to call.

I just got a call from this # saying he was with vcr with a spanish accent. He asked for me.. and asked if my ss # ended in ####. I said what?? and I layed into him that I never give that information over the phone. I think this call has to do with a debt from someone with the same name as me that I have dealt with for years. And sad part is the other person is diseased but I still get calls. I hung up ....
