Paid off a bill and now getting another phone saying i still owe money

This guy, Peter Kent, first called me from an Unrestricted number back to back until I finally answered. I usually don't answer blocked calls but when it was back to back I thought it was one of the kids at a neighbor's or something. He was incredibly rude and claimed to be with my local county's "Processing Dept" and wanted me to verify my information. When I asked what it was in regards to he gave NO information. So I told him I wasn't willing to provide this information. He then put ME on hold....so I hung up. He then called back and left a vm leaving his TOLL-FREE number to call back...what an idiot. Obviously isn't from our county clerk. I still called both clerk of courts here in town and they have not only NOT heard of him, but said they don't call people to verify information and to NOT provide him with any information. He called the next day and when I called him out on NOT being from my local county's processing dept, he immediately put me on hold again??? So again I hung up. Then he called back, but this time he was calling from a local number. I answered and he said that he was going to make things as uncomfortable for me as possible and then he hung up on me. What a tool this loser is. So, as I always do, I googled the number he was calling from and it was a number into our local police department. I called the police department and the main number and explained what happened and they said that number isn't used to make outgoing calls. It's tied to the 911 line and also told me about a phone app they had just discovered where people can make it look like their number is any number they want on someone's caller id! About an hour later I started receiving (over 90 to be exact) texts from people 'responding to my craigslist ad'. Some of these were quite vulgar. I know it sounds like something straight out of a movie, but I SWEAR this idiot did it. It's all too much of a coincidence. When I got home from work I tried to find the ad but it was flagged. I filed a phone harassment report, so we'll see where that takes us. This guy really has too much time on his hands. What's worse is I have NO IDEA why he's targeting me. I do have debt, but to not even tell me what creditor you are? Times are too scary nowadays to just give information out willy nilly. Sad thing is, I am slowly climbing out of my debt and I am more than willing to pay - but he just screwed that up!

Ge just repod my car barely 2 weeks ago.... it still wouldnt have even gone to auction yet. He said it was filed under county court. When I checked the county court for every type of civil/criminal/family etc. My name doesmt come up.... hes called me, my husband and my dad that I know of. He said he was going to take papers to my address (which is old, and gm actually has my new address. And take them toy place of employment which I dont work any longer). Not to mention the car was in both mine and my husbands name with my husband being primary and he hasnt been harrassed. They also give full address and last 4-6 of social - which I believe is illegal to leave on a vm. He can kiss my butt and just put it on my credit report like other places do. Im too broke and have too many kids to deal with bs. Ive had calls like this before and actually went to the police station and had them call the numbers and they wouldnt even give the cops any info. The cops told me to just ignore it and so did my lawyer because its 99% a scam. My husbamd had an issue similar to this a few years ago when he had a loan through ace. He paid it off and then a couple years later went to ace and tried to get a loan stating he didnt pay a dime. Come to find out the company that took all his money (over 1k) was not supposed to be getting money from ace and scammed several several people! Ace, still wouldnt accept that as a payment. And besides PETER KENT? What is he half spiderman half superman? Sounds like a villain to me!

Actually you are not collecting on behalf of the creditors, they have long ago written off the debt and sold it for pennies on the dollar to the collection agency.  These "collectors" then go out to "collect" their money, not to give it to the original creditor but for themselves as they have bought the original debt.  Also there are laws that even collection agencies must follow.  You can request in certain provinces to only be contacted by mail, after this point they are not allowed to call you.  Collection agencies are only allowed to call your workplace to verify employment and then only once (BC) to try to collect the debt if you are unreachable at home.  If you tell them they are not to phone you at work anymore they must comply.  They are not allowed to ask for any details or tell the employer anything about outstanding debts or defame the debtor in anyway.  After a statute of limitations has expired on the debt (varies in provinces) they can no longer attempt to collect on the debt.  Watch out for fraudulent collectors who try to "reset" the clock, these can be taken to court as this is illegal.  Court action in incredibly rare, which is why collectors fall back on scare tactics to get their money.  Be aware of your rights and if you are really in debt contact a financial advisor who will work on your behalf with the creditors.  They will let you know your best options and once you go through them and a solution is found all collection must legally stop.  If, say, you file for bankruptcy and have been absolved they can no longer legally collect any debt for you.  Make sure you educate yourself on debt and collections!

Received a call today from Peter Kent NCR, for a person named Patricia somebody (indecipheral) was an automated man's voice for first name and then a different automated female voice stating some last name...
We've had this new hm # for about 4 months now and it is unlisted and registered with the do-not-call list too.
I called back and it when immed. to vm, so I left a msg saying they had the wrong # for someone named Patricia, and that we'd this # for a short while.
So we'll see if this person calls back after being told.

On Friday, 23 November 2012 at 14:56 hrs (2:56 PM), this telephone number (1-877-792-6203) contacted our residence leaving a male voice recorded message and claiming to be a lawyer by the name of Peter Kent; the message was for male person with the same surname as our residence. The recorded mail voice left the message warning that the said individual had 24 hours to return the phone call or otherwise legal action would be taken, etc. etc. These people, and I am being polite here to call them as such, were told over and over NOT to phone here anymore that they had the wrong phone number. What is the point of registering with the DO NOT CALL LIST if we keep receiving all kind of annoying and harassing phone calls. Our Governments and Bell Canada combined are simply passing the buck to each other and do not really care about the services to their citizens.

I have received three calls two from Peter Kent and one from the office of Joshua Coleman.  Note that I called the number left and spoke to this Peter Kent and he said he would take my name of the list.  I kept time and date of conversation and the second call from him 4 days later.  Saying no contact by person or lawyer and would be taking action.  That is total crap as I spoke to him.  I owe no one a dime.  Then I got one the next day from this Joshua Coleman using a female voice saying the same thing as the first original call from Kent.  It was Kent's voice when I spoke on the phone.  So today I called this Peter Kent again.  Got him on the phone and as I was explaining that I had the time and date of our conversation and that he ... then it appeared that he hung up on me.  I tried 6 times to the 1-8/77-792-6203 number and it went straight to his voicemail.
I believe that this not legitimate.

I just got the same call and I was like what?? I was ready to tear my husband a new ----- hole... How can they get away with this? Of course after the message I did some research and came to this site. I wish I had their phone number and show them how it feels like to be harrased and you have no unpaid debts..I am posting this warning on Facebook . Wish I knew who to call not only to stop the calls but to bring them to justice for wrongfull harrasement or something like that...gggrrr sorry I am only upset because had I not done the research my husband and I could have had a real ugly night and we never fight...so glad I found this site..I didn't answer cause I figured it was a telemarketer and they never leave messages..if its important someone will leave a message. Relax, they are only using scare tactics.  I don't know what the limitations are for other provinces, but for BC as long as you have no contact with the collections agency they can't come after you once 6 years is up.  But if you contact them or give them any money the 6 year time limit will start from 0 again.  The only thing they can do is garnish your wage, and for a small amount of money it won't happen.  They need to get a court order to do so and will need to apply for it once a month thereafter.  It is very costly for them to go this route so that is why they use threats.  They are hoping to scare you enough that you will pay back the debt.

And even in the small amount of cases that actually result in wage garnishment, they can't take more than 20% or so, and even at that you can apply for it to be a lesser amount stating hardship.  I've heard of people only paying like 20-30 dollars a cheque.  Overall the costs of paperwork / courts are far too high for them to be going this route for a majority of debts.

Do some research.  They are virtually powerless and so try and guilt/scare you into paying.

I mean read the note from the assistant person, lol, she's talking about babies and being a welfare degenerate... lol... that does not sound like a well educated person, rather someone who has a god complex and likes to stereotype people into one big group.  Juvenile

K, so i got a call saying that i owed some money to citifinancial from a few years ago.  I had a call and they were quick to want to settle for $1000 on a $5000 debt.  When i did not here back on what o do and where to send money i didnt know what to do.  Now i have this peter kent calling me saying that some court proceedings are coming against me now, and to obtain legal council.  I tried to call back left a mesg and no answer or call back.  I dont know if this is just part of there speech?  They also used the line that they sent some paper work and i should have recieved it and they were goingto send more right away but sill nothing.  So i am pretty sure this is BS as it would cost them more than i owe after they pay lawyers and travel costs etc.  so i realy think this is just a BS attempt on their part.  Now i know that i owe money and they stated they would take a set amount and when i reuest it in writing i get nothing and can talk to anyone to get questions answered!   And what was that post earlier about the 2 year thing? i dont think i quite ubderstand what they meant? if someone knows about this could they please let me know. thanks

This is the exact same message I have gotten and I just left a message with them.  It was an automated message from Peter Kent, now who the hell is he?.... Well I do have a lawyer and I will sue this jerk for harrassment.  I know I owe nothing to anybody.. You are no victim since we are no fraud.  We are a nationally licensed collections office who also has the power to sue people when they don't pay their debts....someone like you I am sure.
