Dec 11 2012

Today, totally out of nowhere, I received a check in the mail from Bank of America for $810.94  in regards to the PrivacySource scam.  Like the others above, apparently I had been being charged $129 a year for years, according to the letter, without receiving *any* services in return.

Frankly, banks are not in the habit of handing out $800 checks like candy, so I went on Google to try and find out something about this.

Well what do you know : A Google search turned up next to nothing.  There was one listing, mentioning that a class action suit had been filed against BofA several years ago over this matter.....but that was all that showed up.   This suit must have been for literally billions of dollars, and seeing as how I got a check, obviously B of A lost the suit.

But.....B of A  has seemingly used one of those "reputation management" firms to purge the search engines of all links to the story.  Surely there are many stories about this matter, but as of the above date, I can't find a single bit of solid information, no matter which search terms I type in.

I went to my local BofA, where I have an account, and spoke to the manager, and he acted like he knew nothing about it.   "Be glad you got a check" was all the "information' he was able to give me.

It's one thing that they took our money, and another that they are now attempting to hide the details from the public by manipulating search engine results.

Shame on you, Bank of America.

I am really upset with this company . I got charged 99.99 from my bank of america and I never gave any permission to it to my account. I had a limit amount of money in my account and you caused me to get a overdraft in my checing account. I read that I am not the only person who is a victim of being falsely charged. Take me off the list and don't ever charge me again!

I 've been charged $99.99 twice. And right after I withdrawl all of my money in my account, they charge me one more time. I was then fined by BOA for 35 dollars twice for "over withdrawl fee".  HOW DARE of BOA make this kind of mistake!!!!

This number is for a privacy/credit/account activity Department of Bank of America.  The $129.99 is a fee charged for yearly membership for the report.  It starts out as try for .o1 the first month and cancel or $129.99 a year.  If you're charged, you didn't cancel in time.

i feel like i make the call to get a refund from them each year. just called 1.877.488.0086 and they cancelled it on the spot. got the cancellation number and put it in the 'details' section of my online BoA statement so that if they ever try this again i can flip out on them. they tried to tell me i've been a customer since 2005... HA! who are they kidding?  must mean i've been disputing their charges since then.  I gave them the dates of all the times i received a refund from them and asked them if they got the picture yet! just a reminder to always check your statement!

i was a former 'fleet' member and when boa bought them i started getting a $9.99 monthly service fee on my checking account. they said it was because they 'upgraded' my account. i was in college and had about $200 in there at any one time! i called BoA and asked why the 'upgraded me' without my consent. their answer was utter nonsense. ya they refunded me the $ and switched me back to my free account which was EXACTLY the same as the one that cost $10 a month. what a rip off. i was so pissed. atleast they refund their scams when you catch them...

I have debit alert protection on my BoA account and this auto debit did not alert to my e-mail!  I suddenly noticed the $99.99 charge on 4/8/08 and immediately checked my e-mail for the details of this charge.  I am so disappointed with BofA especially after all the fire wall they have set up for their own customers to get to their accounts - this is a hassel to reverse and a failure on behalf of BoA to protect us (all customers) from fraud!

This happened to me too.  Sneaky bastards.  My BOA account was debited $99.99 on 3/25/08.  I did not authorize this service and don't remember receiving a call from them. I called the 877-799-2511 number this morning, and after being transferred 6 times, I got them to cancel and issue a refund.  Sounds like this affiliate is staffed by morons.  Definitely get a cancellation number.  I'm furious with BOA for being associated with this, and told them so.  Totally unsatisfactory.  Watch your account!!!!

Just an FYI. I work at Bank of America & usually customers are signed up for this service when they activate their debit card. This is a credit monitoring service. Listen to the prompts & do not press anything to learn more. You don't know until it's too late. This is an afillate of Bank of America. You will receive credit back if you dispute whether through the company or Bank of America. The direct number to cancel is 1.877.488.0086. Be sure to always get a cancellation number in everything you do!

I don't know if this is a scam, but they certainly are difficult to reach. My 84 year-old mother received a "trial membership" through the mail and has no idea where it came from as her only contact with BofA is a Visa account. I have called every contact phone number they have listed in an attempt to cancel this membership. After several iterations of telephonic queues I invariably reach the same  recorded voice telling me "our offices are currently closed." In order to contact them on line you are required to set up a login account which asks for information you should not need to give to simply contact them.

On Friday 11/26/10 I received a debit to my checking account from "privacy source" for $129.99.  I called my Bank of America to inquire about the charge to my account and they gave me this number to call 877-799-2511.   I asked the bank how they could let someone make unauthorized charges to my account and they had no answer.  After calling the number and getting a message I put the phone number into the web and saw all the messages regarding this scam.  I called the bank back and they told me this company privacy source is a 3rd party subsidiary of Bank of America.  The operator at bank of america told me that i must have signed up for this service somehow.  I asked to speak to a supervisor who told me the charges would be reversed within 72 hours.  How convenient to make this charge to my account on a Friday night with "privacy source's" offices closed for the weekend!  I am officially closing this account when the charges are rectified.  These people are SCAMMER'S all the way.  My family does a lot of business with this bank and I know that they are not checking for every charge but know that something isn't quite right with their balance all the time.   I am so thankful to find this blog!  This info helped me to be strong in demanding my money back right away vs. 10-15 days.  These people are crocks they know most people are not going to call in and go through the hassle.  Get out of this bank if you can!
