Debt Collector
Got a call from 833-111-1111 and let it roll to voice. Called it back when it said it was trying to collect a debt, when I knew that was clearly a mistake. The woman on the line, KALEE MOORE told me I was in default for a 2004 Kia Optima purchased in 2008 and that I owed over $5800. I have NEVER owned a Kia. She stated they were processing court documents to serve and wanted to confirm my current address. After pressing her, she gave her company as Affirmative Litigation.Com out of NY.  I can't find this company but I did find this site. I called back to the scammers and asked for the VIN to try to see if possibly my identity had been stolen (still naive enough to believe this was real), I got hold of a real jerk who bullied me into tears. (Not usually an easy thing). He gave me a bogus VIN according to KIA headquarters. I've blocked the call, but my husband is furious and spoiling for a fight.

someone called my dad looking for me, gave him 877-263-7923  and a case number. I called it.. it's affirmative litigation group -saying I owe money on a charged off card for household bank, telling me to pay up or they would see me in court. the refused to validate the debt, saying they didn't have to (they do!) I asked them for their website, I was told to google it, it's the third one down (say what?)  I have never had an account with household bank, and it isn't in my credit report. it's a straight up scam.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I got a call from 888-283-5420 and they said I owed $4,265 but would settle for $540.  When I asked for them to mail me verification of this, of course they responded with, we don't do that.  I had this trouble with another "agency" and I filed a complaint with the FTC and the Attorney General's office in my home state.  That agency was forced to remove my name, issue a letter of apology, and I'm not sure what else.  I have done the same with this group.  It's been a year since this harassment has begun and I'm tired of them calling family members and friends telling people I have a restraining order against me, have been listed as a defendant in a civil suit, etc.  It's embarrassing.

They stated that they were going to process an affidavit to take me to court I told them I will see them there because I don't have a payday loan.SCAMMERS! The number showed up on my phone as 803-111-1111 and it sounds like telemarketers in the background. They said they had the IP address to my email address for when I took out the loan.

Called and stated that I took a Pay Day Loan for $500.00 in 2012 and never paid back and I was being charged for theft and fraud and was going to be taken to court. He provided me a bank name I never heard of and invalid account number then demanded payment. When hanging up he was upset and said I will see you in court. I will see you in court it is, I'd be damned to be scammed.
