Interesting that the voice mail leaves one name but the same voice answering the call uses another. ACS Recoveries seems to be missusing a legitimate company's name to collect debts through illegal tactics.

I received the call back in December that was threatening to take me to court and that they where going to serve me.  I called back talked to a nice lady told her i would call her on Monday.  For the next 3 days i received calls from "process servers" who told me they where going to have me arrested, embarrassed and that they would serve me at work .  I finally was very tired of it and informed the person calling they where welcome to serve me just let me know WHERE to meet she said they would be there in 2 hours nothing.  Once they where going to send a sheriff i asked them to let me know when so  i could be there again they said  2 hours NOTHING.  I reported the information and the recorded messages to the FTC and the local attorney general.

I called the number again and asked for a verification of debt, when they asked for my email i refused and asked them to fax the details on 1-2-2011 as of today i have not received any information not i have received the phone calls when calling them back they tell me "they will send it' or they "have sent it" and must of had it lost at work but when i inform them i have EFAX they say they will fax it again.  So as of today 1-24-2011 i have not been served or received any verification of debt.

I am concerned this may not be true.. or Michigan may be projecting me with their laws..

received a message from this # 877 807 8495. They said they were calling from Pierce County, left no name, but gave a case # and said I was a defendent in the case. I have not received anything from them, no summons.  My mom works with people and their credit issues.  Federal Law says their are several things they have to sent a person.  Threats, false threats, lying to make it sound scary to people are all illgle tactacts.    I signed a limited POA with a company and they will talk to ACS (NCO finance) on Tuesday.   Look up consumer  rights concerning debt collection and you will know what to do.

These people called my husband yesterday about a loan.  We thought that we had already taken care of it.  I actually did all of the application for my husband and he told them that. The guy told my husband that criminal charges were going to be filed on him on the 24th of this month. But he advised that my husband file criminal charges on me for getting the loan.  This man said that he was a paralegal.  I called him back at 2:30 pm he told me that I needed to pay over $2000.00 by 3pm.  Today, they have called severl times.  My husband is on the phone with them now.  I just talked to cash net usa and they gave me a number to their collections dept to clear this matter up.  They still have our account there.

Thanks for the info wish I had gotten this sooner. there are some places that are for real but there are lots that aren't I always ask them to send documents showing I owe the  money the are talking about. I reported Hansen Law Offices to the FTC they did send me a letter showing the debt had been paid after I faxed them a letter showing I had paid the amount and pay day loan they were trying to collect on. But if they call again I will reprot them again and I am calling the pay day loans corporate office and tell them they need to stop selling loans that have been paid off.

Hello to all. First things first: don't panic. It's just a phone call. If/when you get a call from these people there are a few things to keep in mind. #1 Your the boss - you can end the call anytime you want. #2 Take control of the call early on. As soon as they refer to a debt / loan / payment / court / summons or whatever, you need to start asking questions.

What is your name or identification number?
Do you have a direct extension?
What is the name of your company?
What is your company's phone number?
What is your company's mailing address?
What is my account number with your company?
What is the alleged amount you believe I owe?
What company did you purchase this alleged debt from?
What was the account number with the original creditor?
What is the phone number of the original creditor?

They MUST MUST MUST answer EVERY single question either on the phone or in writing!!!
Failure on their part to answer even one of these questions means it is a SCAM!

Hey everyone.. same boat here. They called me about 3 month ago. They even found my work number.  It is from an old pay day loan. They said the same things to me. Today I get another call on my cell.  Telling me I have been served and a case #. I think they think we are idiots if we are getting pay day loans because you can't be served over the phone. Another thing is they have 120 days to serve you. And they are breaking FDCPA Guidelines. I think most of us agree we may owe this debt but I am not paying these people. If you are trying to clear this up I would reach out to the original pay day company you took the loan from like I am going to do. But don't pay this people from this number. If they keep it up call a lawyer.....

This exact same message appears on other message boards about this company but with names of other individuals like Jennifer, Julie, Jason...

Sounds like someone from the company is on here trying to scare people.

You cannot go to jail for a debt.  You can be sued in court, but not taken to jail.

This is a scam.  Nobody is taking anyone to court.  It is all crap run by a shady and somewhat clever collection company.  They have no leverage, so this is what they do to scare people.  It's sad that these folks running the scam can't find something better to do with their time.  Pathetic

I think "lyllian"  is a liar and a scammer with a fake post - trying to hide the fact they can't speak english with this silly story of a broken phone screen and dictionary - It seems absurd.

I checked into this company that is leaving messages with my family and violating The Privacy Act.
They were giving out information. not only that but if they don't have a surity bond they can't collect in the State Tx. Follow this link
.http://direct.sos.state.tx.us/debtcollectors/DCSearch.asp
If you don't leave in Tx Use your state.
I called Denton County there was nothng there. As a matter of fact my sister, and 2 other family member called them every 15 min and used the small tactic they used. They were very mad, I haven't recieved one call.

To everyone on this reading this thread - most of these posts seem suspicous! There is a huge scam out there in which former payday loan recipients and applicants are being contacted and told they are going to jail if they do not authorize immediate payments to resolve the debt.  These debts are non-exisitent - these paople have collected your information either form a fake payday loan application site or stolen it from form another company.  The FBI released a press release about this in December 2010 and numerous state attorney generals have also released warnings. These calls come from people with middle eastern accents - they spoof numbers so they can't be traced. They often sound like they are calling from a call center.  When you ask for wriiten verification they say they sent you an email. When you ask for something sent again they tell you they can't. They are usually very vague about the when the loan was taken out and pressed for specific details they tell you that you will give all the paperwork when you pay. All of this is illegle. If you are contacted by these people - DO NOT pay them. If you have outstanding loan - contact the original loan company and verify anything with them and make payment arrangments with them.  Be prepared - they will call form many different numbers - using americanized names like "James Brown" or "Allison Smith"  They may also call you at work and contact any rteferences you may have listed - this is all part of their scare tactics to try to get you to pay. They post fake comments on sites like this to make themselves look legitimnate.  There have also been cases where they have set up fake webpages for thier "companies" if people try to check them out. However they will be verey general and most of the time the links will not work.  Look up your rights under the "Fair Debt Collection Practices Act" on the FTC website. Put a fraud watch on all your accounts and with the three credit reporting agencies.  Check out this website - you will see countless stories like this under many different names and numbers

You "forgot" about a loan?! Did you ever recieve verification of the debt before you paid? Companies are required to notify you in writing. So you just paid these people without any proof the debt was yours? You are either a complete idiot, or one of the scammers with a fake post.
