Got a letter too. sounds good at the first look. Now I would like to know, how did they get my info, that is scary. Wish they could be stopped and more people could be educated about them.

I too received the scam mail. The phone number on this one is (877) 771-7170. It did not have an address however on the spot where the stamp goes it says presorted standard us postage paid permit #779. To the left of that it says mailed from zip code 46802 which is fort Wayne Indiana, Allen county. I don't think that's where they are but it may be possible to track that permit number and possibly find where it originated.

(877)771-7170 in BIG numbers at bottom of oaffecal-looking letter, no return address, Stephanie Marshall,
Manager--Benefits Division . also a Se Habla Espanol: (866)299-4730.
Large "Personal & Confidential". Hunh? LOL It states closely, the amount I pay on credit cards each month.
However, the outstanding debt is what I owed 5 years ago. So, some source feeds them info. How private is that? A financial aggregator. Big print giveth, little taketh away.

Received same letter today from Stephanie Marshall.
List number- 1-888-679-4501.
I remember hearing awhile back that if certain 888 numbers are actually called you will be charged an outrageous amount for placing the call. I don't know if this is part of that particular scam though. Just saying ...
Has anyone actually called the number?

Just received the same BS from Certified Non-Profit 501c3 Debt Relief and decided to check into it and found this site and I was correct in thinking this was a SCAM! Thanks!

FYI-Lee Legal- IF you don't want to be associated with these ongoing, ever changing scam calls and letters, perhaps you should walk down the hall and speak with the head of the organization.
As far as my research tells me, they keep changing the phone numbers on the letters they send out. I have every intention of reporting this to the BBB and whomever else I can think of. I am left wondering how many real people in desperate need of debt relief have been taken advantage of by this scam.

I got a letter from a Stephanie Marshall, Manager- Credit Relief Division with the number 877-811-1409 to call to become debt free in as little as 12-36 months. The letter claims to have info from Equifax, claimed I was pre qualified and gave me a case number to reference if I call. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2009 was quoted and the letter was addressed from 1050 Connecticut Ave NW 10TH Floor, Washington, DC 20036 USA. I was led to believe the letter was from the U.S. Government. I guess people would do anything these days to get you!
Shelly 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
the call is now coming from 866-708-0008 and it traces back to the same person mentioned in the other letters, a Stephanie Marshall. The address goes to an attorney in Washington D.C., get this, a Bankruptcy attorney. I thought this was an official government letter, that is why I decided to check on line. Turns out, it is a scam.
Watch out people! I am going to throw my letter away now.

I also received a letter signed by someone named Stephanie Marshall. There should be some kind of task force to help catch these jerks in the act. The envelope and letterhead also read: 601 Pennsylvania Ave NW, South Building Suite 900 Wash. DC. The phone number in this case was #866-708-0008
LA 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
601 Pennsylvania Ave NW, 20004 is a really nice 975 sq ft 2 bedroom 2 bath condo in a "luxury building" near the capital. I found some pictures under a real estate site. It was going for $585,000.00 so I guess they have to find someway to pay that bill.
Fatkid 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
Got an offical looking letter from stephanie marshell.Sounds like the same crap you all are talking about.this one had the #877-230-2882. Looks like they are trying a new#

I rec'd the letter yesterday (5-19-10) with a different phone number, which was 1-866-724-9075. Knew it was a scam, was looking to report it and found this site. It does look very official, however my letter had no return address, just a bar code. They 'knew' my credit card debt, but did not have information from my bank regarding house, car, etc... There is a very small paragraph in fine print (of course) at the bottom of the letter stating 'this product of service has not been approved or endorsed by any government agency and this offer....." These letters are from either debt arbitrators or debt settlement companies.
Jaimito 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
I received the letter sent from : 601 Pennsylvania Avenue NW SOuth Buikding Suite 900 Washingnton D.C. 20004
It looked Official Correspondence from D.C. Gov.
Ended up being SACM ...yeeee
Jade 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
Wow! You guys are ON IT!!! That's what it takes! A community of savvy consumers taking care of themselves. Obviously, the govt is not doing it, at least, not in a way that protects us from predators. I've noticed that with the huge majority of people with credit card debts, the companies are just charging off the debts. This means predators of a different sort are coming with unprecedented techniques.
Let's continue to look out for each other and provide info that can really help.

Got the same letter, looked up the telephone number and was glad to see these other notes. That helps, someone out there always wants to get the little man. How can they get by with making it look like a Letter from the Government.
Harriet 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
Actually I received a letter from a Stephanie Marshall, Manager- Credit Relief Division and the 877 Number to call to reduce one's debt. The letter claims to have info from Equifax and pre qualifies me for dept reduction. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2009 was quoted as the reason for my letter and debt solution.
mb 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown

ik 2011-06-06 21:04:50 Unknown
Got a letter with a Washington DC address pretending this was a gov't official notification, scary part is they had the amount of my debt listed on the form. Where would they have gotten that information. Gave case number and the 877-811-1409 number to call. Glad I checked it out and found out it was a scam. Anyone know how they got the debt amount?
