I keep getting a recorded message that states I need to call them back to give a statement about a filing that will be issued against me. They finally left this number but when I call it back, it says it is a wrong number. They keep calling my work phone.

Scam! Scam! Scam! They have called me from multiple numbers and the messages say to call this number and reference a case number to get my statement for a filing against me. I picked up one of the calls by accident and was told that a warrant had been issued for check fraud and they had filed with my county. I told them I would be glad to speak with them once I called my county's sheriff's office and the person cussed me. I did call the local sherrif's office b/c I did feel threatened by the call. The sheriff's office actually called the number for me and instructed them to stop calling. They have since called using a different number. I will also contact the federal trade commission. Some people really have no ethical or moral standards.

Hey I keep getting the same thing when you call this # you get a busy signal! Why leave me a msg if I can't call u back? then the msg doesn't even identify themselves or what the issue is about? I mean yes I owe a lot of companys but I'm not sure who they're trying to collect for if they are a valid company. I have read that they are scammers but I've also read that they're a valid company so I don't know what to believe. I really don't think I've gotten any mail from them.

I have gotten several calls with no mention of company or problem...just says to call because of a filing on my behalf and they need to here from me or else a rendition will be made on my behalf.  I have tried to call the 877-812-2577 and it will not "go through as dialed".  I have even put the "1" in front of it and get same message.

I keep getting calls for a guy who lived in my house before I bought it... 23 YEARS AGO! Message says he needs to contact them about a pending "firing". They have been leaving messages for about 9 months now. I'm getting sick of it. I can never get anyone when I call them. I hope I actually am home once when they call. I love messing with people on the phone and see just how long I can waste their time.

Got this message as well today. Called back and the guy there removed me from the phone list. Been getting the calls for over a month now, and they usually come while I'm at work. It's quite annoying.

This outfit called me and I was very Leary by the message they left, concerning monies owed and failure to reply would result in legal action, Anyway, I needed to find out what this was about. I called and referenced the file # they left on my voicemail. The man stated my name, last four of my SSN and the "debt" that was owed. They told me they were trying to contact me for almost 3 months but mailed papers to a dresses where I lived 6 and 4 yrs ago. Not sure how they found my current contact info? As a while I despise debt collectors! BUT, in this case "Legacy Management" was hired to fulfill U.S. Bank debts. Although I don't agree with the said $200 charges from the a-holes at U.S.Bank, I gave up that fight awhile back and so now I must face their "HIRED GUNS"! Since I failed to resolve this before "Legacy Mgmnt." Is entitled to collect from me. The young man I spoke with at Legacy was very professional and might I even say helpful and fair with me. Again, as a whole I hate these companies but in this case it was my responsibility to take care of this debt. If I had ignored it a $200 debt would have turned into a $1200 debt real fast (when slimy lawyers get involved)! My advice would be at least find out what the debt is and if its legit, be a stand up U.S. citizen and take care of it before it multiplies exponentially and you can't come anywhere close to paying it. If it is a real B.S. debt, get a lawyer (like Lexington Law) and fight it that way. No one likes to deal with debt collectors but in this instance Legacy and the young man I dealt with were upfront, fair, and willing to help close this debt with me!Also remember that the person on the other end of the phone is just trying to do a job so he/she can put food on the table and pay their bills even if its a CRAPPY job to have! They aren't the bad guys! The bad guys are the companies that hire them. So if you want to get back at the bad guys try to get the best deals you can from them upfront and pay your bills on time or resolve it at the "ORIGINAL COMPANY" level before it goes to collections! And no, I don't work for a collection company! I just believe we should be honest and take care of debts that are truly ours and not bi*** about people calling all the time to get what you owe them anyway! Pay up, its much easier on all of us!

I received a call from this company.  Unfortunately, I gave them one payment.  I called and told them I could not make another payment.  They threatened to file a lawsuit and take my home.  And, this is for a credit card that my husband had that I was not even on.  I have told them my husband has alzheimers and that I cannot afford to pay this but they keep calling.

Also at the end of the calls they say Good Luck! But whenver I've called back I get no one - either a voicemail and/or a person says thanks for calling but they don't identify a business and they transfer me to the person who called only it never goes anywhere. Very strange. I realize too that it is a bill collector but prior to bill collectors calling you don't you have to be delinquent on something and don't you have to know what that is or can they just call you out of the blue!  How sad!

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Stating this is a fraud investigation? Illegal
Spoofing phone numbers? Illegal
Not following FDCPA? Illegal

I just received a call and Googled the #. According to the BBB it states this company is no longer open. I find it funny because they are obviously still calling. Not a good look to have your company reflecting as closed. Points to some unsavory business I think......maybe they got shut down and reopened.

Digitone, week 4. Well, after using my Digitone to block prefixes 800, 866, 876, 877, 888, 000 I have gotten ZERO calls from scammers. What's Digitone? It's a caller-id box that blocks numbers or prefixes. Just plug it in, and enjoy. Enjoy you're do not call list, it doesn't work. Look, I can't make you believe me and buy one, but whoever invented it I would like to kiss them full on the mouth!

Inform them they're being recorded (and do it, pretty easy with cell phones these days), tell them to send you the information via mail as REQUIRED by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, and hang up on them.  DO NOT give them your address; IF they truly are who they say, they'll have it.  DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION.

I have gotten so many messages from this place.  First it was about a pay day loan.  When I refused to call them back they started threatening me saying that it will be pursued as a legal matter with regards to check fraud.  Now I am getting two messages.  One stating "Concerning a financial instrument that you have provided we have presented that our bank and has been returned. As always we would like to work with you in this matter we do need to hear back either from yourself or your legal representative.. press 1 for a representative or call...." the other stating that I am being investigated for tax fraud.  Everything I know about this company leads me to believe that they:
1. Are B.S. and they are trying to scam money
2. Illegally threatening me with actions that they are not allow to do
3. Harassing family members over a debt that does not exist.

I am contacting the BBB to get them reported and off my back.

So this 'group' has a new tactic...I got a recorded message saying that "...Concerning a financial instrument that you have provided we have presented that our bank and has been returned. As always we would like to work with you in this matter we do need to hear back either from yourself or your legal representative.. press 1 for a representative or call...."
Very strange since I don't write checks, I only use a debit card for the last 8 years and things don't usually get 'returned' on debit cards.
