It's a scam that's using FDNY's name but has nothing to do with it.  I have a feeling someone was able to hack into a system to obtain personal info.  People suck.

It is a collections dept on behalf of NYFD. I have sent them my insurance info on three separate occasions, yet they claim to have never gotten it. They took my insurance info at the scene, they were mailed it, and they took it over the phone. Every one has been paid by insurance except them. They seem to have very poor billing skills in dealing with filing with insurance. I have referred them to call my attorney who is once again sending them my insurance info. It is not my fault that they have terrible billing practices. Seems they need better billing oversight.

I just checked the number and it is legit. I called the FDNY Command center at 718-999-2770/1753, to verify the phone number 877-814-4615. I was informed that they use a third party billing company to collect the money owed. The company changes from time to time because companies bid on the contract to do he billing for FDNY EMS.  You can Google FDNY EMS to find the number that I listed above.  Call them between 9 and 5 and they can verify if you owe money to the FDNY EMS.

This is NOT FDNY/EMS. If you owed them a bill, they wouldn't call you. They would send several notices to your house and then some type of legal action, like a lien or send the City Marshall after you (which happens after filing in court), if you live in NYC.  Even if you did owe on an ambulance call, the bill collector can not claim to be FDNY. By law, they are to identify themselves. By law they are to stop calling you when you tell them to cease and desist and to communicate only via mail.  This is some run of the mill j*** off "collection agency" that probably is looking to get some poor schmo to reactivate a long dead collection from years ago.  Don't call them back.  Don't give them info. Don't be intimidated. If they get ballsy, tell them you are going to report them to the State Attorney General's Office for violating the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.  Look it up, it's a real thing.  Even if you owe on a bill, you have rights not to be harassed.  Or lied to, for that matter.

Called me today saying that they were Kaiser. Asked if it was me and I said yes. Then proceeded to ask me to verify my address. I declined and she said ok and hung up on me.

Why would I verify my address and I don't know who you are? The number didn't even have a city and state attached to it.

She was definitely American who called...

This is a message board for discussing spam and scam phone calls.  The calls to your son are not coming from anyone here.

You can probably block the calls.  Ask your son's provider how.  Or put this number in your son's contact list and assign it the ring tone "no ring".  That won't stop the calls but it will send them to voicemail without disturbing your son.

This is the # that appears on the legitimate FDNY/EMS invoice.  If you pay the invoice, it is addressed to a General Post Office PO Box #.  This is most likely the legitimate third vendor that collects on behalf of the FDNY/EMS.  They just go about it like a third rate collection agency, and it frightens you as opposed to instilling confidence that you are remitting payment to the proper agency.  They give you their first name and ext.  They make you an offer for a one time settlement, but you must make the payment over the phone, immediately, via credit/debit card.  Nothing in the way of legitimacy has been established to that point, nevertheless, they want that info.  They won't take the settlement via mail, won't legitimize the settlement in writing and tell you (and you must take their word for it) that the call is recorded.  They don't attempt to verify your info, and you have to dig up their info.  They'll only say they are a "company in Florida", no name or address is given.  As I stated earlier, this is most likely the company handling the bills for the FDNY/EMS, but they go about it like snake oil salesman.  It is completely incongruous with the upstanding service and reputation of the FDNY/EMS, an agency which commands my respect.

I'm originally from NYC but now live in Michigan for school and have NEVER used their or any ambulance service. Have never given this phone out but only to family and friends. Have another cell phone for CC/Insurance/anything else important, that I do give out but have never received a call to that one.

I think someone must have given the FDNY/ambulance our numbers (random digits) instead of theirs maybe to avoid paying; or with so many people living in NYC that being a digit off, i can see how we might be mistakenly.getting called. The only thing that makes this sketchy is that they know your name or some information, especially if you have never used them.

Like most have said, don't answer and definitely NEVER give out any extra information. If this is legit they already should have all this information.

Remember the recent Target hack; they are getting better at it.

Got a voicemail. The caller referenced me by name and gave instructions to call back. When I did, all I got was "You have reached the billing department." The billing department of what? Any respectable business would state their name.

It's New York City. what do you expect. It's a town of crooks and thieves that is broke. Being the typical liberal city in one of the most liberal states most of their clients are indigent and can't pay so the one that can't they go after them. Their hospitals are full of people who can't pay and are looking for free care because hey know someone else will pay. Typical of liberals, always expecting the rest of us to pay for the free care they give away so casually to others, except to us of course.

I sent a message to FDNY through their web form to see if this is legit or not. Amazingly, I received an email back from "FDNY Revenue Management" asking me for the number at which I was receiving calls and indicating that the calls were in regards to an ambulance bill.

I have never used an ambulance in NY, so I suspect they have the my number down for someone else. I replied to explain the situation and included a note that from the voicemail and an Internet search, this very much seems like a scam.

Will update again if I receive a reply.

Got plenty of phone calls from 877-814-4615.the recording is FDNY/EMS.
It comes up unavailable.  I don't pick up because I figure it's not legit if it's not even registered with the
phone company as an place of business or FDNY. Why is caller idea unavailable???is it shady?
Now I receive a bill from them in the mail and it asks for all sorts of insurance and personal info.
Hesitant to give it out since it might not be legit. They should get their telephone registered legitamitely
as a legal place of business...not unavailable.

Even though I answered the call, I got a recorded message to call this number on an urgent matter and talk to FDNY.  So, I did but I got a recorded message that my phone provider doesn't let me to get the call thru.  Very strange.  never happened before.  I thought about the ambulance service as we used it but then, they have billed the insurance and got paid and they can just send the invoice over to us.  This is stupid, the service was poor, they guys from the ambulance had the apartment above us and not ours.  they got on the fire escape to see if it was any fire on that apartment.  I told them that I placed the call but, obviously, they weren't able to understand.  Hopefully, I will never need them again, they are too stupid to rely on their so called service.

This number is legit, I get a bill in the mail normally right before my payment is due. I was in an ambulance last year but they didn't have the right information at first but eventually they got in contact with me. My insurance only covered part of the bill

Called, but had a missed number.  No message. No voicemail.

Called back. Automated introduction was "business center"...any business would professionally say the name of the business.  Not just a generic name.

press 0 for operator so I can find out which business this is...and they said it's the billing center.  I told them I had a missed call so I don't know which business this is.  Then they finally said "FDNY EMS." I said okay thanks bye...but before I hung up..the operator asked "what's your number so I can look up why we called you".  I'm thinking okay..nice try to trying to get info from me.  I said I'll call back later, and the operator was very pressing as to getting my number, like I was being pressured.  Very not professional and in no way am I convinced this is FDNY EMS.  I just simple stopped talking to the operator and she disconnected the call.

Answerer beware, do not give out any info, and answer at your own risk.

I also have received repeated calls on my cell phone from this number.  They never leave any information other than I should call their number.  Whether it's a scam or not, this kind of harassment is unethical, and may be illegal.  Also, they never send anything in writing, something any legitimate company or government agency would do.
