They call my office all the time but never say anything.  I can hear the recording start and stop but don't get a complete number or sentence from it.  I'm not behind on anything and I doubt my boss it...we are the only 2 in this office.

Here is their address. You can write to them and tell them that if they do not stop calling you will file harrassment charges against them. This can be a federal crime if they keep calling.
It's American Agencies, 2158 W. 190th St., Torrance, CA 90504. Phone number to office 310-212-0400. If you write to them and they continue to call, you have the right to sue them for threats and for harrassment. You can call the number aboce and tell them to stop calling as well. If they do not keep a log of how much they call and file a report with the proper State authorities.

We recieve calls from this company all the time.  I called the 310 area code number listed above and told them right out to stop calling this number.  They then stated it's an important business matter and wanted me to give my the last 4 digits of my husbands SSN.  I told them I think this is a scam and not to call our home again.  This is ridiculous!  These people call your home lying about bills that we never created to try to get you to give them your credit card number or account number...it never ends!  How can we file a compliant?

Same as most of the other people here.  American Agencies called me saying i owe 50+ dollars to Pacific Bell and now it has accrued 1.5% per year and i owe 175 dollars.  They tried to work with me asking how much money I have now, etc.  They finally offered me 100 to take care of the debt.  They said it wouldn't not go on my credit buy i do still owe the money.  The second call they said it was to AT&T, not pac bell.  They continued to verify my address, name and last 4 of social...I think just to make it more credible.  I don't owe the money.  I kinda hope they call me back.  I like messing with people when i know i'm in the right.  It happens so rarely so when it does I take full advantage.  I may even record the call myself just to play it back and laugh.  Next time they call back...maybe I'll verify their company name and phone number and explain that they have an overdue balance and that they need to send me a check immediately.  I may even start calling THEM back...from an unlisted # of course.  Wow, i'm kind of getting excited about it already.  :)  yea, i know...i'm a sick person...but it's fun :) ahaahaaa

Hopefully that nips these annoying calls in the bud.

I received a call 2 night from this number could not make out the name of th company ( thick accented woman).   I ignored it but they did leave a message asking me to please call them and have a great evening??? like I've won some prize or something......I won't risk calling them back or answering the phone for unrecognized numbers and I have never had AT&T so I think it's a scam.

Called the business phone and recording came on. I called the number back to see what they wanted. They said that her name was Shelly from American Agencies, she did not have an American accent, and she was looking for my husband. She said if I would verify the last 4 digits of his social she would tell me what it was about. I told her I would not verify any numbers in his social over the phone. She said I should have him call her and gave me her number and extension number. The number she gave was 877-837-2345 ext 6121.

I received an automated message identifing themself as the American Agency, that this is not a sales call but it is important that I return the call.  This was left on my office phone.  I returned the call but they would not identify the company or its purpose.  The person I spoke to identified himself as Sam O'Neil and said the compny is in Rancho Dominguez, CA.  Also, I called from a blocked number, not my office, and they had caller id information on the number.  Who are these people?  I've googled the company and there is no information.  If they are a collections agency and legit, why don't they say so.  I've had my identity stolen twice and it is still not resolved but shouldn't legitimate collection agencies appear on your credit report?

I received about 4 calls in the past 2 weeks from American Agencies. At first I thought it was a scam, because the first time I called them back, the customer service lady hung up. After a few more messages left on my phone, I decided to call again and get more info about the company. They stated that I owed over $1,000 for phone services back in 2000 (before I even owned a credit card). They confirmed my SS# but I had never heard of the address to which is was used toward, so someone had used my SS# to secure a purchase. They said they would send me a fraud package. I also called Equifax and put a fraud alert on my credit. If you've received a call from the collection agency and know you're not delinquent in payments, let them know, and also let the credit bureau know.

This company calls every day. The first time a few weeks back it was some guy stating that he was from a collection agency that is collecting a $120 debt from AT&T from 1996. Of course that debt is NOW $320 with "late fees and interest!" My wife told him he's crazy and in turn HE hung up on her. Nearly every day since we get an automated recording advising we call them back about a "business matter".
My guess is that this company is going through old public records (but why does this appear to only be AT&T?) and is trying to call and scare people into paying on uncollectible debts. I would suggest that anybody that gets calls from them, check your credit reports. Beware!

They have called every day this week at the same time.  I didn't recognize the number so I don't answer.  They don't leave a message.  For those of you who they claim owe a 10 year old debt - there is a statute of limitations on debt collecting.  They can't collect on a debt that old...

This exact same call came to us today to my husband at work.  They called and said we owed on an SBC bill from 10 years ago! They also had our address from 10 years ago but did not have our current address where we have lived for 9 years.  It sounds quite fishy to us. They also told us they would fax us something. Did they fax you anything?

Thanks

Non-emergency number, of course.  I got one call once, a few minutes ago, and answered it with silence -- they didn't say anything either.  That's enough for me to block or forward them away from me.  If they get you to talk to them, they've already one.  From the postings for this number here, it really seems like a scam.  And all AT&T, so maybe some of their records (including office contact numbers) got into the wrong hands.

This number started calling probably 3 or 4 weeks ago (sometimes call 3-4 times a day), but I don't answer 800/877 numbers when they call (if it's that important they can leave a message).  They never have, so tonight I googled the number and read all this...My record is spotless/credit, so I would know if there was a problem.  But at least I won't feed into the scam and I'll try to see if there's a way to block the #!!!  thank you!!!

I continue to get phone calls from American Agency.  I'm still waiting for them to fax me the previously requested information regarding my alleged past-due amount.  Unlike the experiences from some of the other people posting on this message board, American Agency NEVER leaves a message when they call me.  I usually just recognize their number on my caller-id.  The last time I answered their call, I mentioned to the representative that I'm still waiting for their fax.  She said..."oh...uh...you should have received it?  We'll try to resend it."  I doubt I will ever see a fax from them.

"American Agencies" has been calling my house for the last 2 months....I never answered or called back like the recording asked because I figured they were telemarketers.  Today they called my office so I figured it was something...I called them back and they asked if I was who they were calling for and I told them I was.  The man said I owed AT&T $180.00 and that if I didn't pay him now my service would be cut off.  I found this odd because I have several accounts with AT&T that have been established for years and they have never indicated that I had any sort of past due balance.  I told the man I was going to call AT&T and straighten this out with them...he just hung up.  I called AT&T and went over every single one of my accounts and no late or past due balance ever...sounds like some sort of scam to me.  Wonder how they got both of my numbers though???  Very strange!

"American Agency" is full of crap. Like everyone else posting, this company has been calling harrassing at all hours of the day and into the night. I don't owe anything and have a clean credit report for the past 4 years. My guess is this might be some kind of phishing scam. Why else would they be trying to call people who don't owe anything? My advice would to pick the phone up and just put it on mute, or just place the receiver down on a counter until they hang up. This way, they are losing money on each phone call. If everyone would do that, maybe they'd get the hint once their phone bill arrives.

I think they are just liars. They have been calling us for a year maybe. Never leave you alone. First the recorder was saying this is a message for ..... saying the name of my father. They talked to us many times, and we tried to find out what they want. Since I am not the person, so they say they will call back. After like a couple of months not calling, now we are on their list again, and they are calling everyday , maybe 2 times a day or at least once. The recorder is stating now they are an American Agency. I am think to call our phone server and report them. Maybe they can block them. It is extremely annoying. Whatever they have for us, I won't believe a word. I am 100% we don't owe anybody anything. Do not fall for them..... this is my advice.

ok...now I'm a little more concerned.  When I spoke to the Am. Agency representative, I didn't admit that the alleged debt is mine, but I DID confirm my "name" and that I lived at that "address" of record in 1998 (I only lived at the address for about a year).

It appears that American Agency went fishing and I took the bait.  If I had just ignored the calls, I think they would have eventually gone away.

As previously stated, I am not aware of any past-due amounts to AT&T, and I feel that the information is erroneous.  Anyway, at this point, I'm just waiting for them to fax me information regarding the alleged charge.    Just to be proactive, I think I'll go ahead and contact the Better Business Bureau and maybe some consumer advocate organizations to make sure I am aware of my rights and to find out how to best protect myself and my credit.

If anybody has any additional advice...it will be very much appreciated.  Thanks.

They left 2 messages claiming to be American Agency.  Claimed I had a debt from 1998-$200+owed to AT&T.  They had an old mailing address & the last 4 digits of my SSN#!  I said it must be a fraud as I don't have any outstanding debts having checked my credit reports.  They said they would send a fraud report.
