"Toll free call" calls repeatedly

Calls repeatedly with no response when answered.

unknown caller id

calls on my cell phone, which is listed on the "no call" registry.  Since I don't recognize the number, and there is no name, I never answer.

a company (telemarketers) called SME seem to be the source

I called the number back. It is a company called SME. They claim they tried calling in reference to my subscription with a local newspaper. This might be true, since I cancelled two newspaper subscriptions about a month ago. I pressed "1" for the option of having my number removed. Supposedly, this will take place in 72 hours.

yeah quit calling. i cancelled my papers (plural 3 of them) i never received them since last june.

I got a call from them every other day for a little over a month now and they always hang up when I answer. I actually got a person today and she told me she's from the Sac Bee. I told her I'm on the do not call list and am annoyed that they call me and hang up for a month and a half. If they call again I'm seriously considering sueing them for wasting my phone minutes and annoying the hell out of me. They're pretty much harrassment right now.

I keep getting calls from 877-324-7432 - its a company called SME and they want to talk to me about my local newspaper subscription. I did not answer, but called the number back. The recorded message said if I want to be removed from their list, to enter my phone number which I did since they already have it. However, I am still receiving calls from them. My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. So they are in violation. My next step is to register a complaint. They need to be stopped!

I am so sick of these calls. I am about to change my number. They make me mad. I get them like 3-5x a week. I've done the prompts and NOTHING....they never take me off their list. GRRRRR!! I'm also registered on the DONOTCALL list.

I'm on the gov do not call list, and this is the only company that calls me.  They call on any day at any time, sometimes a couple calls per hour.  Rediculous.

Same as others have reported. No one answers the call but is identified as "SME Newspaper Subscription." We receive calls often...daily.

Getting call from this number on my cell phone daily for past 5-6 days. If I pickup nobody answers

This is the Southtown Star Newspaper. Caller was selling subscriptions. When I said I wasn't interested, she became irate. I informed her I was on the 'do not call' registry, and asked for her name. She refused. When I asked to speak to her supervisor, she said she is the supervisor.

Their computer dials all phone numbers within various prefixes.  So non-listed numbers, fax numbers, everything gets a call from them.  From what I've read they are marketing local newspapers.

Very simple people - if you don't recognise the number - don't answer it...

Got a call from 877-855-7441.  I picked up, and it hung up on me.  Waste of my time.

To DK in San Jose:  They still might be break FCC rules if you are on the govt. do not call list.  Plus if you were a former customer, past 18 months they are in violation.  Doesn't matter if a live person talked to you or not!!!

You have a former relationship with the newspaper company NOT them; and no not the same thing!!! I'd wait and see if they call you again though; if they do definitely file a complaint on donotcall.gov and FCC form # 1088.  Good luck!!!

I have gotten this call about once a day for the at least the past 2 months.  They called me today at 9:45am and I answered it, even though I knew it was a telemarketer because the caller ID said "TOLL FREE CALL".  Yes, as mentioned by others here, this is a company called "SME" that is selling subscriptions to our local paper (in this case, the San Jose Mercury News).  A live gal talked to me nicely, offering me a newspaper subscription, which of course I don't want, so I said "I'm not interested in receiving the paper" and I hung up.  Then I called back their number that was displayed on my Caller ID display, and went to option 1 of their menu, then typed in my 10-digit phone number as requested (they already know my number, so I figured it's no harm to give it to them again) to have my name removed from their calling list.  Let's see if they honor it.  They're not breaking any FCC rules by calling me, because they used a live person to talk to me when they called, and I'm a former SJ Mercury News subscriber so I have a former "relationship" with their company.

Got three calls today with no message or anything.  Used *69 to get the number for the third call and this was it.  I did get a telemarketing call regarding a newspaper subscription the same day, prior to the third call; don't know if that's related.  No ties to Yahoo! Chat as far as I know.

Constant calls but there is nevery anyone there.  I have five numbers for my business and this number has come in on all.  I called back to make sure that all my numbers have been removed from their database.  What a pain!

I answered the phone, and there was no response. They did not hang up, either.
