They call my parents home phone saying I was being sued for a debt so they got some explaining to do. They made no attempt to validate any debt or say they were a debt collection agency. Which they are so I filed with the FTC. My dad is calling the AG because they misrepresented themselves to him.

You are such a liar. You would not be visited by a police officer to serve you with a summons. You would be visited by a process server who would then have you sign for it. And, if this really DID happen and you went to court without a lawyer, you're an idiot.

Folks, I would encourage all of you to read the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Every single one of you who were threatened with legal action, who had family members threatened, and who had any other type of harassment can sue this company for EACH OFFENSE.  Every state should also have its own consumer protection act regarding debt collection.

Each state also has a statute of limitations for secured and unsecured debt.

Go to http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf  and read up on your rights.

recd a call from a private number at work today and was told that a process server was on the way to my work to serve me with papers for a civil suit.  He told me that I could get this action delayed if I called another number (877-856-9941) once I called this number  I was told that it was for a credit card that was charged off on 2003 and although the original balance was only $2000, it is now up to over $7500 with interest and court costs. I was told that they had already tried to serve me once earlier and after 2 attempts, the case would go to court.  This person told me that I could make an offer in compromise to try to settle this before it went that far.  At this point I became suspicious and said that the statue of limitations is only 6 years in Georgia and that there was nothing they could do legally.  I told them to go ahead and serve me with the summons at work and I would be waiting for them.  He hung up immediately.  Sounds like an aggresive and dishonest collection agency that is using shady tactics and fear to get money from people.

I have this same caller, provided me with a case number. ID'd himself as David James from "Process Server". Threatening to serve me at work. At one point, asked for my manager to find out where can I be served with the paperwork. Did not know I used to be a collector and know all the different tactics.

Called my daughter gave a case file # said a summons was being sent to her house for me. Called back and they told me it was for a old cc, after they verified lol who they where speaking to, they gave me my address, birthdate, and the last 4 of my social. Hey, what if it wasn't me! Then told me I was going to court, wages would be garnished, liens on property, federal taxesand not just a judgement but a 10 yr judgement duhhhh ask if I knew what it was. Sooooo I asked for filing attorneys name, reply was we r not attorneys did you think you were calling attorneys. I ask for date of debt default 5/15/08. ahaaaa I said we have problem I live in NC and the statue of limitations is up. He gets a little nasty now tells me how sorry I am for not paying my bills, I told him that I was recording and I knew my rights and then he really gets nasty and ask if I was threatening him he wasn't scared of me. Its strange how they are so cool trying to scare you but you ask the right questions and they in turn hang up on you.

this post is hilarious...I don't believe any of it...they aren't gonna send an officer to your house...court summons are usually delivered by Joe Nobody and they keep calling me girlfriend and giving her different amounts every time...these people are jokes...all over a credit card she paid off and hasn't used in years

I didn't call the number and a officer showed up a week later with a notice to appear. I went to court last week and got f'ed. It was for old debt now I have a hold on my bank account and my wages are going to be garnished.  I should not have listened to the above comments and I should have called and settled before I went to court. Do what you want with the number but please be aware it was not BS in my case.

Called and gave me a case number and a phone to call. Told me after 2 attempts I would be served with court docs and the case would go on without me.

This is a debt collection company, that uses "guerilla" tactics that I know are illeagal in Massachusetts, and I'm sure other states as well. They call family members of the debtor, and share the nature of their business with them, and they refer to there accounts as "cases" and claim to have "court summons" which is illegal to represent yourself as affilliated with a state prosecuters office! These are the lowest form of "bottom feeders" that buy decades old debt and then practice in mafioso style shake downs! I'm reporting them to the Attorney Generals office in Massachusetts!
