I must be on some "sucka" list, I have been getting calls like this for the past year. No one has ever showed up at my home or work with "legal documentation", ever. They all use the same lines, I'm up to number 30 for how many companies called me. The first one got me scared cause I did not know what was going on, then I did my research. Now I just tell them they better get me that documentation, I'm waiting for it. Nothing, ever! I push and push them and eventually all I get is a PDF in an email with my personal information on it, some account number, bank name, original creditor name and their letterhead. Sorry, not good enough, if they own the debt they would have the original paperwork proving I took out a loan. They will refuse to send it via. snail mail because that would be traceable. Any legit debt collector is going to contact you via. US mail and give you a chance to dispute it within 30 days. FYI: I called the original creditor and they did not have any record of me having a loan with them. They have to keep a record of who they sold the debt too as well.

you little b1tc4! This and maybe other companies like it are just full of crap. In fact, I fell for it once, and they promised me I would get confirmation that I paid the debt and also tell me when they reported it to the original creditor. Well guess what, they never got back to me and when I try to call them their phone it is now just busy, no matter when I call and I've been calling them for weeks on end. I called the original creditor and they had no record of me ever taking out a loan with them in the first place. SCAM, SCAM, SCAM!!! And guess what, this company called me about the same loan as the company I can't get a hold of. How about you give me your physical address and I'll show up and we can have a meeting? guess what, I can't even get a physical address out of you sock cuckers, and if I could, I'd show up and we could REALLY talk about who is full of crap. So F off you little b1tc4!

Section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf requires 3rd-party debt collectors to give debtors written notice of debt (the key word is *shall*) :
"§ 809. Validation of debts
(a) Within five days after the initial communication with a consumer in connection with the collection of any debt, a debt collector shall, unless the following information is contained in the initial communication or the consumer has paid the debt, send the consumer a written notice containing?
(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) a statement that unless the consumer, within thirty days after receipt of the notice, disputes the validity of the debt, or any portion thereof, the debt will be assumed to be valid by the debt collector;
(4) a statement that if the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, the debt collector will obtain verification of the debt or a copy of a judgment against the consumer and a copy of such verification or judgment will be mailed to the consumer by the debt collector; and
(5) a statement that, upon the consumer?s written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor."

A Collection Agent May Not?

Here are the top 11 actions prohibited by the The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act:

Misrepresent Him or Herself

A debt collector may not misrepresent himself as an attorney or law enforcement officer.

Use the Telephone to Annoy or Harass

A collection agent may not cause a telephone to ring or engage any person in telephone conversation repeatedly or continuously with an intent to annoy, abuse, or harass anyone at the called number.

Threaten Arrest or Lawsuit

A collection agent may not threaten a consumer with arrest. It may not threaten legal action that is either not permitted or not actually contemplated. In other words, a the threat of a lawsuit may be an empty one.

Use Abusive or Threatening Language

A debt collector may no use abusive or profane language in the course of communication related to the debt.

Publish a Bad Debt List

Publishing the consumer?s name or address on a "bad debt" list is prohibited.

Contact By Embarrassing Media

A debt collector may not communicate with a consumer by post card. It may not use any language or symbol, other than the debt collector?s address, on any envelope when communicating with a consumer by use of the mails or by telegram. A debt collector may use its business name if such name does not indicate it is in the debt collection business.

Contact a Consumer at Work

A collection agent may not communicate with consumers at their place of employment after being told this is unacceptable or prohibited by the employer.

Seek Unjustifiable Amounts

A debt collector may not demand any amounts not permitted under an applicable contract or as provided under law.

Contact a Consumer Represented by an Attorney

A collection agent may not contact a consumer after it learns the consumer is represented by a lawyer.

Communicate With a Consumer After Receiving a Validation Request

If a consumer sends a written §1692g response within 30 days, the collection agent may not communicate with the consumer until it mails the consumer the requested verification of original creditor's name and address.

Communicate With Third Parties

A debt collector may not reveal or discuss the nature of a consumer?s debts with third parties other than the consumer?s spouse or attorney. A collection agent may contact neighbors or co-workers only to obtain location information. It may contact a third party again if it has reason to believe the information the party provided previously is false.

Bills.com FDCPA FAQ

Below are questions Bills.com readers ask frequently:

Can a Collection Agent Call My Cell Phone?

Yes. However, if you tell the debt collector it may not use that number because it is a cell phone, it may not contact you again at that number.

I Keep Receiving Dozens of Calls From Collection Agents. Is That Legal?

No. Unscrupulous collection agents will use "block parties" or "office parties" where they contact a consumer, multiple neighbors, or co-workers telling them they need to reach the consumer on an urgent matter. This is not permitted under the FDCPA.

A Collector Says I Will Be Arrested if I Do Not Pay

This was a true statement before the US Civil War, but has not been true since. People may be arrested if an aggressive judge files a bench warrant for a person who does not appear at a hearing relating to a lawsuit regarding a debt. However, in that case, the offense is the failure to respond to a court order, and not the existence of the debt. As stated above, it is illegal under the FDCPA to threaten a consumer with arrest if the consumer does not pay the debt.

I've called them upwards of 20 times now, and from what I can tell, they all sit in a room together.  There are about 5 people who answer.  Natalie (who answers "Legal Outsourcing"), Lisa, Brian, Deena, and Richard Bloomingdale.  I will continue to call them, in hopes that they realize how annoying it is to receive pointless calls from someone you don't know who is trying to scam you.  877-861-3758 will hopefully stop once all of their names are all over the internet (granted, they probably aren't real names, but who cares).

Got a call from Aaron Matthews and a call from Aaron Sumners (make up your mind on who he is) but says the same message with the threats and two forms of ID's and so on. I'm so sick of these idiots that call looking to scam on you. I don't have any debts, which would be questionable if I didn't just purchased a new vehicle and saw my credit report which consist of one page of the apartment that I'm renting and one lousy credit card with no balance. Hmm, maybe they should check on who they are trying to scam before they call. Anyways, I just open a complaint with FCC and anyone who get these calls, you should do the same, that's when they investigate.

Same garbage court summons blah blah. Fyi they cant leave you a voice mail to serve you. Documents need to either be hand delivered to you and only you or certified mail. This is just a way to scare you into paying something or making arrangements to pay on a debt whos statute of limitations has expired or will soon expire. discussing it or making arrangements renews the statute. If its your cellphone,  the app "mr number" is stellar at at blocking calls  it will pick up and hang up without a sound

Ignore these messages and DON'T call them!!!  These people will tell you there is a debt (usually a few thousand) which they will settle for a few hundred.  They use scare tactics to try to get your credit card or bank account information.  I've reported them to the FCC.

my boyfriend gets these calls on his cell phone, but they are asking for me, by name. they claim it is a debt from a line of credit which I have never had. I did a reverse look up of the number that called (877-433-0266) and the number they said for me to call back (877-861-3758). Every single bit of evidence I've found suggests that both these numbers are associated with a scam.

Just received a call from my mother.  She was frantic because she had received a call from this number and was scared that the police were going to come to her home and arrest her.  The man on the phone threatened her with a warrant if she would not pay immediately and wanted her banking information.  She did not give him any information and hung up the phone.

After some research the company that hosts that particular toll free number, from which my girlfriend received a call and gave her info to, is:

Level 3 Communications Inc.
1025 Eldorado Blvd.
Broomfield, CO 80021
720-888-1000

I'm not sure as of yet if the calls originate from there but its a start. I insisted that my girlfriend head straight to the bank in the morning and cancel the card and freeze the acct. if necessary.

I am at my wits end with the individuals that continually do this. I thoroughly intend to find them.

I received the same call this afternoon from this number. A voicemail was left stating that I was being served a summons in the next 24-48 hours. I returned the call and spoke with a man who said his name was Richard Bloomingdale and said he worked for a law firm MacArthur, Allen and Associates from Chicago. I asked for written verification of the debt to be mailed to me. He said he hoped that I would receive the mailed verification before the summons. I have tried to find an address for this company but no luck.

PLEASE DONT LET THESE FOOLS GET TO YOU.  Just got off the phone with them, told them they were full of BS and gave them my address.  Told these dummys to bring it on!!  I said you know and I know they aint, yeah I said aint, gonna do squat.  Its all lies in hopes that 5 or 10 people a day fall for it and start paying them.

I mean come on.  I could get on the phone right now and randomly call 200 people a day.  If I TRY and sound legit and tell theses people they owe some silly debt then eventually I will get a few to bite and pay me.

Its a game I promise.  They cant and wont do s***!  You can cuss them out, hang up or hold a polite conversation with them but they wont do a thing.  I like to mess with them when they call so I call them right back and f with them.  Im in sales and can bring it when it comes to fast talking so I promise I let them know how much crap they are feeding me.  They do nothing but say "ok we will be sending a person to your door within 48 hours.  Once again I told them to please do so, I will be there ready to sign and take whatever fake document they have.  HAHA  Fools

Check back in 48 hours from this post....if you havnt heard back from me then yes folks it was a crock....HAHA  Already know it is becasue Ive said this to them before and nothing happen.

The only people that you EVER have to worry about are the Gov, House and Car loans.  These credit card collectors, medical bills, retail stores like best buy, payday loans etc cant do a damn thing to you once you stop paying.  They can call and threaten you but thats it.  They cant take you to jail, they cant garnish your wages and they cant hurt you so STOP WORRYING and live your life!!!

Oh and to the punk who says pay your bills....F*** you

I just got a voice mail telling me that they have a summons to deliver and that I need to be available within the next 24-48 hours and if not, I'll be in contempt of court for not showing up.  They said they would deliver to my residence or where I work and gave me a number to call back.  This male caller did not identify himself and I believe it may have even been a recording, probably the same one they give to everyone

I listened to the call a few times and I heard the recording end when my voice mail picked up and it started over again.
