This number is a part of Careers Inc, which is a verification service for employers for hundreds of different job boards. I'm a representative of Careers and would like to clarify why you're getting a text from us on this number.
We receive a large quantity of resumes for thousands of positions across the country, and our job is to verify that your contact information is correct. Employers use Careers because they get such a massive response to job postings. It's very hard for any company to sort through interested applicants - people are not reachable, their phone numbers are disconnected, or their email is invalid or typo'd on their resume. This leads to frustration on both ends, where applicants receive no response and employers get bad contact info for an otherwise qualified individual.
Careers attempts to contact applicants to confirm that their information is correct - if it is not, then we help them to correct it and update the employer on the applicant's status.
We do not ask for any sensitive information such as SSN. We do not charge for our service. We will never ask you for anything beyond confirming what's already in your resume on file.

I got a text as well, read some of the posts and called it back. It is legit, they were trying to confirm my contact information (phone and email, not address or anything personal) for a job I applied for yesterday. They do not get the name of the company however they knew the title of the job and when I applied for it. A little disconcerting that people are so impersonal to send a text but it is beneficial that they let the HR department know the info is correct and am available to contact.

I just returned the call, the gentlemen that spoke with me was very professional, he only wanted to confirm my email address, the position that I applied for and asked if I'm interested in furthering your education at this moment. After that, he said the employer was going to contact me directly, wished me luck in my job search and we hang up. Less than 5 minutes.

Indeed this number is associated with Careers Inc. I too submitted my resume to a company looking for an HR Representative not knowing that this is a 3rd party processing company of some sort. I spoke with a "Jason" and he did just need to verify some information with me. We went over the common, "You ARE a US citizen and are able to work in the United States, correct"? I agreed since its obvious that I am, per my resume. He then asks what level of education I have and when I replied, "Some college", I was asked if I had any desire to go back to school. I explained that I have not given it much thought over the years since I have done very well for myself and my family just by having the experience that I do in my related field. He came across pretty rude and decided to explain to me in a condescending tone, "You KNOW, 85% of major companies ONLY hire people with a college education and it is a fact that people with a strong educational background will have a much easier time finding jobs". I was dumbfounded at first until the feeling of disbelief kicked in. I thought, "Who the hell is this KID and who does he think he is talking to me in such a tone"?
I explained to him that indeed that may be a statistical "fact", but just as well, companies who hire people who do not have the "strong educational background" also get the jobs by having the experience in the related field in which they are applying. And that I've done very well with the 16 years of experience that I have. Both my wife and I did not finish college and we bring in over $125k annually thank you very much.
I mean what the hell does HE know? For all I know he is still wet behind the ears, fresh outta college and frowning upon ME because I dont have a little piece of paper stating that mommy and daddy spent over $50k for an education he could have gotten for a $1.50 and late charges at the public library??
What made it sound worse is that after I told him about companies also looking at the experience factor, he started to read from his little script and could barely hold back the snickers and the laughter from getting a small rise out of me. When he read the last few lines of his script (still snickering and laughing), he thanked me and wished me luck and all I could do was say, "Oh okay...har har har..." in a mocking tone and abruptly hung up on him to help him understand that he highly offended me and I will NOT be interested in having him OR the company he represents help me find work. I've gotten this far without them and will continue to do so!!
THANKS, BUT NO THANKS......
