Just got a call from Canad US Cross Boarder Crime Forum. Sam Daniel badge RDR143 x 1098 telephones either 613-944-4874 or 613-944-4875.  Both numbers do not appear in Canada 411. Though the address in Ottawa seemed to be correct but anyone can get that information. They give you a website www.publicsafety.gc.ca showing government website but again a scam.  Thank goodness my boyfriend told me not to let them have access to my computer. Mexico is always the place they mentioned you were hacked.

Same thing happened to me today.A woman called and said she needed my address to give to police because a crime had been committed, hackers in Mexico we "currently" taking information from my computer. She said she was going to shut down the entire internet. I asked them a lot of questions because I was pretty suspicious from the beginning. I asked for their number so I could call them back and they gave me the same number many of you listed 1-877-898-4236. She asked me to go to my computer and hit control r at the same time. I asked more questions and she said she was calling from Brampton from the Department of Crime in Canada and that she needed to give my name, number and address to police because a crime had been committed via my computer. I thought I've never heard of that department and then suddenly the phone disconnected, I guess they hung up. Then I looked up the number online and I found all of your responses so I knew without a doubt it was a scam. Thanks for all your posts, it was beyond helpful!

Just got a call with a terrible connection. Caller claimed to be from Canada Public Safety and even sent me to a government website to show me what department she worked in.  When I insisted I check the number was legitimate because I could not understand why a Canadian government agency would be calling me from overseas, she gave me this number: 1-877-898-4236.  It was clearly a scam.

She told me my computer had been sending spam messages, and hackers from Mexico had broken in and stolen my information, including all my personal and banking information. She was very forceful about telling me I needed to follow her instructions or my personal information would be compromised.

When I hung up the first time, she called me right back. When I told her I would not follow any of her instructions before I checked everything out, she hung up again and didn't call back.

I just received a call and it showed up as 000-000-000.  Needless to say, my interest is peaked as most of these are scams.  A man with Indian accent tells me that my computer has been hacked by someone in Mexico.  As I question him on issues - why would he know this and such, he skirted the questions.  Got a little pissed at me when I mentioned I needed HIS information to contact RCMP Computer Fraud Division to see if this was a true issue.
His Name:   Chad Williany
Company:  CDC Pubic Safety Commission in Toronto, Ontario
Phone#:  1-877-898-4236
He continued to want to help me, but when I told him I would get assistance from a more reliable source such as local police or RCMP - he got mad, said "SUIT YOURSELF MISS!!!" and hung up.  As Schultz said in Hogans Heros 'Vewy...vewy In-TER-esting....hummm???!!

Same thing for me tonight, my computer was supposly hacked by somebody bad from Mexico. Thanks for your posts. It helped! I hung up on him after he tried to get my CLS ID Key that he and only me could have acces to... He called himself William Daniel, said he worked for Public Safety Canada and finally told me to call back at 1-877-898-4236 for further info.

Now in French : Conversation en anglais.

I received a call from some woman purporting to be an employee of the Dep't of Public Safety, Gov't  of Can. as well. She said I was in danger of being hacked any minute & she had an East Indian accent and urged me to hurry even though I said I wanted to check out her number and she gave me a website. I have a feeling that clicking on the website might actually unleash a virus--don't know for sure but be fore-warned.  What scummy a-holes.

It's my turn today.  The guy said his name is John Smith from CBCF and leaving info like 1-877-898-4236 & www.publicsafty.bc.ca to me.  He said someone from Mexico hacked my computer.  He has heavy East Indian accent and I recognised his voice, as he called before and claimed he's calling from Window sometimes ago.  So I know it's a scam in no time.

They called me today. The guy said his name was Sam Williams and he worked for the CBCF. He said that my computer was hacked by someone in Mexico and they were using it to do crimes. I asked him if he wanted me to pay him money for cleaning my computer because I've heard of this before but he didn't answer. He gave me his phone number as 1-877-898-4236 and said my computer would crash in two weeks. I asked him if the Police knew anything about this and he quickly hung up.

Got a phone call from 877 898 4236 claiming to be Public Service Canada and that my computer with IP address.... was sending them spam messages.  They asked if I was doing something illegal and the way they asked you would think that these guys were the real thing.  I told them I would check my computer and call them back.  The person gave me her name as Carol Brown (yeah right) and the phone number 877.898.4236.  Did she actually think I was stupid enough to get tricked into her scaring me?  Which government agency do you know that calls the public with an unknown name and unknown number displayed on the phone?  And the idiots don't even know that in Canada there's no such thing as Public Service Canada anymore.  I really wish they would something about these criminals.

I just got the same call from these guys.
He identified himself as Bill Larson from the Cross Boarder Crime Forum and said that my computer had been hacked in Mexico.  He was very pushy and was asking me to go to a website called www.teamviewer.com so that he could remotely access my computer.  I asked him for a call back number and he said 1-877-898-4236.  My caller ID showed 000-000-0000.  This is a scam, do not give these morons any personal information or allow them to access your computer.
I tried calling the number back because I wanted to mess with the guy but the operator advised that it is disconnected.
Did anybody get a number that actually works? I have a lot of free time on my hands and would like to relentlessly make prank phone calls to these idiots.

Prank Call
received a call from a very rude heavily accented man saying someone in California had access to my system and it was causing all kinds of problems.   Wanted my clsid - told him I did not know what he was talking about and asked him to notify me in writing.  He said he was with Public Safety Dept, Gov't of Canada and that everyone should know their clsid.  Asked him for his # and he gave me 1-877-8984236.  Informed him I was hanging up and I did.

I just received a call similar to all of these other calls.  The new numbers and website that they are using include a toll free number of 1-800-806-0589 website www.calls 2 geek.com and an Employee name of
Phillip Anderson (Distinctly thick east Indian Accent) and employee ID 60128.

I asked the guy if he just wanted to cut to the chase and get to the part where he tries to fool me into giving him remote access to a computer.  He got very angry and tried to tell me that this was "for my own good" and that I really needed to get rid of the malware on my computer.

Such a scam..... but at least I took up a bunch of his time and kept him from getting to some other people hopefully.

I received a call yesterday from a person with a South Asian accent who claimed to be with "CCIRC" which he said was Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre a department of the public safety ministry of the federal government and suggested I google it at wwww.publicsafety.gc.ca. He told me that my computer was signalling that it had been taken over and was being used for cyber bullying, harassment and pornography and if I didn't cooperate he would report me to the RCMP and cut off my computer. He said that he had sent a warning ( I told him I had not received any warning) and he gave me a thirty-five character code that he said was my computer ID ( CLS ID). I said I did not think he was genuine and that if he would give me his phone number and his name I would phone back and see if he really was with CCIRC. He said his name was Tom Blake and his employee ID was TB147896. The number he gave me was 1-877-898-4236. He asked me for my computer pass word. I told him I didn't have one. He told me to call my service provider and have them assign me a new "IP address" and put me on a secure server. I called the number and received the message "This number is not available from your area at this time". I called Shaw and they said it was almost certainly a scam and if they called again I should just refer them to Shaw. I tried the number again today and got the same message. I called Telus to see what the message meant. The Telus person tried the number and got the same response and suggested I google the number and that got me here to find that it is a well known scam. I don't think I gave him any information that could hurt but you never know for sure.

Same thing just happened to me with the same call display number 000-000-0000 and I'm in Victoria.  He had my address and my last name but did not know my first name.  I kept him on the line for 30 mins, just going along with parts of his spiel and generally messing with him.  Was fun.  He did claim to be part of the Federal Government, Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre, but the number he quoted was for a linksys support line (I googled while on phone with him).  He said a bunch of Mexicans had hacked my computer and that he was going to help me. I asked how he enjoyed working as a scammer and he said he was from Brampton.  By the end he threatened to shut down my computer remotely and then force me to buy a new one immediately.  Seriously, this is such a SCAM.  Don't fall for this one.  He has been reported, but sadly nothing will get done to these people.

Prank Call
I just got a call from someone named (somebody) Parker, of the CCIRC saying they had a complaint against me, I had to ask him a couple time to get him to repeat Canadian Cyber Incident Response Centre clearly enough.  By the time he did that, the line went dead, so I think he gave up on me. I didn't think the CCIRC was a real organization, but I did find it on-line.  They weren't the ones calling thought.  I found this web site by googling CCIRC+ phone calls. The call display indicated 000-000-0000. I am in Victoria BC by the way.

I just got a call from Sean Williams as well!!! phew... thank goodness I stuck to my instincts and told him I'd check him out and call him back before allowing him to do anything via my computer.  The trouble is he said he was from the Federal Gov't and that our computer was sending emails to ministers demanding money.   Canadian Cyber Security and www.teamviewer.com are bad news.  I told him if i posed such a threat that they should send someone to my house to fix the 'problem'.  I'm almost tempted to call him back and give him 'what for'... how can people do these things?

I dont' really care about the scam calls, I can handle that.  But, the guy who just called my house (David) was harrassing my 17 year old daughter telling her how pretty her voice was.  Could they meet for coffee and who was it sitting on the couch next to her. This of course freaked her out.  But he did give her this number when she wouldn't give him hers.  How do I stop this ???

He stated that my computer was sending error messages that I had been doing some suspicious activities and then explained that my computer had been hacked.  I called the place where I purchased my computer and said it was a SCAM.  Told the man that I didnt have time to sit in front of my computer.  I asked him for my computer licence key and he gave it to me.  He gave me is direct line to call him back at 18778984236.  Not a chance that I will ever call back

Just got this call from Jason Black, employee ID #YUJ890547, saying he was with the Canadian Cyber Incident Response Center in Ontario. Apparently, there had been "so many complaints coming from our gmail account sending SPAM messages to government people asking for money," and we were in danger of going to jail. He then asked me to download software from www.teammeeting.com so that he could access my computer. This started to sound fishier and fishier, so I called the real Canadian Cyber Incident Response center on my other phone while I put this guy on hold, and their offices were closed for lunch. Needless to say, he did not get a chance to get into my computer, as I told him I was going to have to verify who he was before allowing him access; at which point, he hung up. Yeesh - I feel sorry for anyone who might have just gone along with this...BEWARE!

If you did give them you credit card number, immediately contact your card company and tell them your card info was stolen by international thieves and dispute the charges and then close that account.
These scammers WILL continue to use your card info to rack up charges.

Take your computer to a local PC shop/Computer store to fix the infections they put on it, or find a friend/family member who is computer savy to help clean it, or do a system wipe/reinstall of the operating system with the disc or instructions provided by your computer's manufacturer.
