"TL" might have a history of financial issues, but these numbers and these "mediators"/"arbitrators" as they claim to be, are fraudulent. They DO NOT provide any information about their company, yet they want others to disclose information to them, as you have. You should have simply told them that you have no contact with TL or you don't know how to contact TL. You should NOT have provided these scam artists ANY information. They harass people and attempt to scare people into giving out sensitive, personal information and sending them money to prevent a so-called arrest. If you have any knowledge of how debt collection works and the fair debt collection practices, you would have know immediately that these people are FAKE. PLEASE, do no give out any other information to them. Even if you don't like TL, you should NOT have done that. You could be the next person they decide to target and I don't think that you would like for someone to give them your parents' name and address.

We have been receiving call from 877-904-4935 wanting to know if we knew a certain person. The call is from a firm because of a certain debt.  Today when we received the call, I talked with a woman or said there were 3 pending charges of check fraud against this person who had given us as reference on a form she had completed.  They were trying to locate her in order to settle the matter before it went to court and she was arrested. They were working for their attorneys.   She told me they got  information on her by doing a background check. When I did admit to knowing another person she listed as a reference I was turned over to her "case manager" who would not give any information and became beligerent when I pressed her for the name of the company that was calling and information on the charges.  She finally hung up on me as I was hanging up on her.   I felt several red flags and glad to hear they are justified.

For at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employees threatening to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe). Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested. They threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.

Some of the people they are calling do not owe a debt.  Others they are calling have already settled their debt with the organization who owns the accounts. Even if you do owe a debt, do not be deceived by the actions of this group.  Many of the accounts they are attempting to collect they do not own.  In other words, if you pay these people, that is not going to clear your debt with its rightful owner.

Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot) or Atlanta GA (often a parking lot near the bus station or a Peachtree Road Address). They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area. The scammers are using the following business names (and there are many others, and they seem to create new ones daily).  They will normally answer the call back number as ?Investigations?

Reynolds, Hill, and Associates
Berkley and Associates
Kaufmann and Associates
Sanderson Blaine & Associates
Blaine and Associates
McKenzie Reid Associates
Kennedy, Kline, & Associates
Nationwide Asset and Recovery
Piedmont Investigations and Procurement
Raffino, Garrison, & McCoy
Greenman, Schwartz & Associates
McCoy Law Group
Salem Associates
Reynolds and Associates
Ryan, Carter and Fields
Berman, Maxwell and associates
DOF Investigations
Vaughn & Associates
Bailey & Rowe

Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior. They include the experiences of victims as well as a former employee or two that quit within a week of finding out exactly what was going on. They also include responses from consumer advocates and people who are really criminal justice professionals advising victims of what to do

They are calling relatives asking for me saying I am a defendant.  So I called them and asked for their names, the company they work for and what this was all about. They said they do not do outbound call.  Yeah right.  They are using unlawful business practices.  Calling your relatives first place, saying there is a warrant out for your arrest, continuing to call me.  So I continued to call them to harass them.   I said I was going to report them to the FDPCA, I wanted to know what company they worked and all the info so I can file a complaint.  They hung up on me.  Forget these scams.  I am still going to try and find out who these people are, I am tired of these overbearing losers.  I am going to put in a formal complaint.  My name is on the DNC list however, I still get telemarketers and people like this calling me.  What good is the list???

be forced to turn-it over to the authorities and they would prosecute to the fullest! the phone
number was 1-877-904-4935 or 678-392-4402.Scam for sure!  Very rude also!!

Received a phone call on our business line from a rep looking for a non-existent employee. When I told the rep that the person does not work here, the rep said he was part of a FEDERAL investigation.  What a bold, outright lie. Why would you disclose that to a stranger?

If the company was part of a fderal investigation, they certainly wouldn't be calling a random business. They would know if the employee worked here, not just speculation.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Your caller violated federal privacy laws (of the FDCPA) by saying that your former family member had committed check fraud.  That alone should have given you an idea that the caller is a scammer.  And the callers are, without a doubt, scammers, whatever history your former family member has.

No, you don't - once you register your number, it's there permanently.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0108-national-do-not-call-registry
Will My Registration Expire?
How long does my phone number stay registered?
Telephone numbers on the registry will only be removed when they are disconnected and reassigned, or when the consumer chooses to remove a number from the registry.

We received a robo-call from one Tony Miller using the 877-904-4935 number today, May 23, 2014, directed to a former family member.  The call indicated there was a legal document to be served relating to the former family member, TL, passing a fraudulent check.  Having learned of TL's prior history of A) check fraud, and, B) intentionally providing misleading information, we believe this to be a legitimate action directed toward TL.  The preceding day, May 22, 2014, we received a call from an individual who identified himself as Steven Rogers, an arbitrator, who was seeking TL for the purpose of discussing a check fraud issue.  Today, May 23, 2014, we passed information to "the plaintiff" per the robo-call provided number at 650-226-8344. We called "the plaintiff" leaving a voice message advising of TL's parents address and phone numbers.  Hopefully that will be the end of this fiasco as far as we're concerned.  In summary, then, at this time it appears to us to be reasonable and legitimate except that Tony Miller and Steven Rogers need to more clearly identify the company THEY work for along with WHO-WHAT-WHEN-WHERE "the plaintiff" is.  If our response does not end these calls to us, then a follow-up message will be forthcoming.

This company called my daughter and left a message similar to Paul's saying they were looking for me, the "defendant," left a (fake) case number but did not leave the company name.  When she called them and told them to stop calling her, they lied and said they don't make outgoing calls - seriously? So how DID she get their number on her phone? And they said the company name is B & M Assoc. - which is probably false.  I'm going to do some research to see if I can file a complaint with the FCC.

I received a call from this number today, looking for anyone who knows how to get in touch with me, referring to me as "the defendant" more than once.  This is a scam robo-call  that is sent out to try to find people to scam payments out of them.
Delete their calls and don't reply to them - when you return the call, you give them the sign that they found someone to continue to abuse.
