I did not receive a phone call, just a Presort Standard notice in the
mail today. Actually, there were two notices in the mail. The fact that
one was addressed to myself and the other addressed to the guy that used
to live here pretty much confirms to me that this is a scam. My warranty
expired early last year. The return address on the notice shows the same
Bloomington IL PO Box that the person that posted on 28JAN08 mentioned.

Just a bogus warranty expiration notification from Warranty Division, PO Box 1648, Bloomington, IL, 61702.  Notice does not ID specific auto.  Anybody who has a car that is under warranty has a warranty that is about to expire.  Duuuuuh.

It is from Marathon Financial.  It's supposed to be their auto warranty division.  I am still checking on that.

Computer generated telemarket scam call stating our warranty was or had expired, and we must press "1" to speak with a customer service rep. The tone of the call is intended to scare the consumer into pressing 1, then the person who answers is curt, rude, will not give out any information of what the call is about and promptly hangs up when questions are asked. Now I'm getting scam-junk mail from the same criminals who prey on the people they intimidate and co-erse into buying their coverage.

I too received a mailing from William J. Sutherland and my car warranty.  Since mine IS expiring I called them. The person who answered was clueless and definitely read from a script.  I had to spell Audi.  She said they cover up to 72,000 miles and there is a down payment of $330 with 18 payments of $165 ? (total $3300).  I said can you please send me something in writing regarding the warranty and she said no she wasn?t allowed to. She said if you give me all of your contact information (including credit card) I will send you a booklet describing the warranty offer.  You can just cancel after 30 days.  I said why would I give you my information if you won?t tell me what the warranty covers?  She said it is a bumper to bumper warranty but did not elaborate.  She also gave me a website: http://www.warrantyamerica.net/
So the company is also called Warranty America, LLC (WA).

Too afraid to do this offer. I just told her (Elizabeth) I would get back to them.

There is advertising in the middle of these post for extended warranties.  So I wonder if you people think this website is a scam.  Because the same company that is allowing you to make posts here is also advertising for you to by a extended warranty from their links. For all I know the people who run this website have set all this up.  Including complaints and complements to get people to click on their links and buy from a company they support.

The company in this thread is NOT in Missouri.  There are also some companies in Missouri that are not being investigated by the attorney general.

I just wonder if the complainers here realize just how many long years the good companies have been in business!  I use this company.  I had a transmission replaced in my cadilac deville.  Do any of you realize how much that cost?  I will use them with my next auto also.

Bottom line there ARE good companies out there that will and do pay for repairs.  Some have been in business over 15 years! They couldn't stay in business if they didn't

Received the same scam letter in the mail today.   Third one, each claiming to be a different company.   Duplicate methods in all three leads me to believe that one entity operating under multiple names is in operation.

Please see other postings for Don't waste your time calling this company, there are active Attorney General investigations, and several enforcement actions filed in court regarding several such companies in the State of Misouri.

If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it must be.   In other words, any advertisement that claims that your vehicle warranty is about to expire is highly suspicious.   Turn the mail piece over to the Attorney General for the state from which the mail piece originated.  Let the law run its course with them.

I got one these missives, looks like the address (PO Box) is a little different than the Box 5644 mentioned earlier:

Warranty Division, PO Box 1648, Bloomington, IL 61702

I would say that, in all probability, you will not get the right William J Sutherland unless you have a physical address, if the name is not outright fiction to begin with.

Here's what we need.  Someone in the Bloomington area should go over to the Post Office at 1511 E Empire Street (I think that's the right one) and ask for the real address behind the P.O. Box.  Then post it here.

From what I see here, we are interested in Boxes 1648 and 5644.

I used to work as a paralegal tracking down deadbeats in California, and the USPS should provide this free of charge for PO boxes rented to businesses.  (Private individuals' address info is not to be given out, only commercial box info.)  They may ask for some fee, but at the time I had a letter from the USPS Legal Counsel (last name Lyman) stating that they should provide this free of charge.

We have a Toyota Rav 4 and we called Toyota who told us that car is covered to 2011 or 75,000 miles.  We are getting the details from Toyota.  Looks like this might be the cream of junk mail, don't know.  They wanted $1900 for an additional five years, but Toyota says we are already covered.  Suggest you contact your car's manufacturer, but I am suspect that this might be a waste of money.  If they are ligit why is there no company name on the literature?

How were you able to verify that is the William J Sutherland for The Warranty Divison?  I tried to looking up a William Sutherland in Illinois and got over 40 and those were just the ones with listed numbers.  If he had an unlisted number I was told I wouldn't be able to find him.

I wonder if anyone realizes just how the BBB works.  Most people in the US have at least heard of State Farm Insurance.  Their headquarters is in Bloomington Illinois also.  Do you know what you will find out if you do a search for them at the BBB.  You will find they are not a member of the BBB and they have many, many complaints.  Many not resolved either.  Yet State Farm is one of the leaders in the insurance industry.  So does the BBB report make them a bad company?  Something to think about.

I did ask the BBB in Illinois to "develop a report" on this company (via electronic form on their website) with details of the same notice discussed in this thread.  I am waiting to hear back.  I was very suspicious due to the PO Box address, no website, and the fact they knew nothing about my vehicle when I called them.  In addition, when I asked who the parent company was, they said "Marathon".  Of course, if you try to google Marathon, you get a million hits.

My neighbor got one of these notices yesterday and told me about this site.  I have had a policy with this company since 5/07.  I needed a repair done two weeks ago.  My rack and pinion and my power steering pump.  The total bill was 1,357.00 and it only cost me 100.00 which was my deductable.  That one repair was almost as much at the whole contract and I still have three years left on my contract.  I am very satisfied!

Telemarketer
This company sends out notices telling people the warranty on their new car purchase is about to expire.  I have a 3/36 warranty on my car and it is only 9 months old.  This is the third or forth notice I received and keep calling to get off it. Every letter claims to be the "FINAL NOTICICATION", but it's not - never ending  I asked them to send me a copy of their "DO NOT SOLICIT POLICY" for my records. The clown refused to because he had no idea what I was referring to (reading from a play-stupid script). According to the company that made my car, if they refuse to provide me with that information, they are subject to an $11,000 fine.  Doing a search for William J. Sutherland (Warranty/Scam Director) and 877-914-7776, leads to: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-914-7776.

Sounds like 3 or 4 lonely guys, desperate for some attention and jail time in the Graybar motel, trying to make a dishonest buck.

Hi boyz!  I am waiting by the phone for a call from customer service that will probably never arrive.

Hope the USPS bags you and splits the fine with me.  Would love to forward you a gift bag of body soaps...

scam warranty mailer
I have not even bothered to try and contact them based on the experiences described here. Has anyone contacted police or BBB? Is there a organization to report these scams to? My wife received a similar mailer from another company as well.
