We went to the address you provided off of 5th street. They have moved. or they are opperating behind a front company. We contacted the Land Lord for that build called "The Beacon Hill Plaza", and they said that they relocated to the Hamner's main office. just down the street. We are going to make a call on this location some time in the future.
As for the Suing. If the debt is over 6 years of age (in most states) it is "Time Bared". (BTW, this opens them up for a counter suit against them for violation against Fair Debt laws ect). Check with your states AG's office on Time Bar for unsacured debt. According to the research we found, there is about $10 millon in litigation agains this organization.  There is no verifiction on this yet, but if it is out there we will substantiate this.
NOTE to all that read this. As with ALL Debt collectors. GET everything in WRITING. Agree to NOTHING on the phone. Give them NOTHING over the phone. Even if they threaten you. It is not a mistermeanor for having debt in this country.
BTW any court action will require them to serve you. If this happens. Go to Court. Do Not Ignor it. Then it becomes a violation of a court summons. That is something they hope you do so they can get a Body Attachment to the order. The judge will then issue a Bench Warrent for Not showing to Court. Speak to a Lawyer if you have questions. Do your Homework. Dont be scared of these people.
And as always. If you do owe money's to people, work with them to get it paid down. It is just good Karma to work with the original Creditor, and your right.
Good Luck All

Yes it in direct violation of FTCs rules on this section 803b to be specific. I also think it violates the "Fair Debt Collection act" signed into law in September of 1995.

The number I received the call from is  877.274.5102. I guess people are catching on to the other numbers.  I was threatened about a house I sold in 1995.  I just called because I was curious about anyone calling about that address.  I've owned 2 houses since then and they didn't mention those addresses.  I caught on fast and gave them the old okey-doke, try another sucker tomorrow.  NEXT!!!!

I got a call from Century & Associates today regarding a claim against our property, etc. similar to the calls I've read about from others receiving the same type of calls.  We do not own the property where we live, we rent it.  This is obviously a SCAM and I have no intention of calling them back.

Nope. They cannot sue you on a time-barred debt. A recent lawsuit filed by the FTC against Asset Asseptance (another bottom feeder) confirms this:

Watch what you're doing with time-barred debts
By Lesley Fair
January 30, 2012 - 10:56am

Of course, people are responsible for their debts.  However, at a certain point, how much time has passed becomes an affirmative defense under state law and creditors can?t prevail in court.  But what happens if a payment is made on a time-barred debt?  A consumer can really get clocked ? because in many states the debt can be revived if a person makes a payment or says in writing that they intend to.  The FTC has announced a $2.5 million settlement with Asset Acceptance, LLC, for allegedly breaking the law in how it tried to collect time-barred debts.

Michigan-based Asset Acceptance buys unpaid debts from credit card companies, health clubs, companies that provide telecom or utility service, and other debt buyers.  Getting the debts for pennies on the dollar, the company targets accounts other collectors have pursued unsuccessfully and are more than a year past due.  The problem, of course, is that if a debt collector tells somebody they owe money and demands payment, it may create the misleading impression that the company can collect in court.  That?s not the case with time-barred debts.

A law enforcement action filed by the Department of Justice on the FTC?s behalf charges that Asset Acceptance pursued debts ? including time-barred debts ? in ways that violated the law.  Among other things, the complaint alleges that the company:
?claimed that consumers owed money when Asset Acceptance didn?t have proof to back it up;
?failed to disclose that debts were too old to be legally enforceable or that a partial payment would restart the clock;
?failed to give consumers verification of a debt when they asked for it;
?provided information to credit reporting agencies it knew ? or had reasonable cause to know ? was inaccurate;
?didn?t notify consumers in writing that it passed negative information on to credit reporting agencies;
?didn?t conduct reasonable investigations when it got a notice of dispute from a credit reporting agency;
?illegally told third parties about people?s debts; and
?used illegal debt collection practices.

In addition to the $2.5 million civil penalty, the settlement puts provisions in place to protect consumers going forward.  For example, when dealing with debt it knows or should know is time-barred, Asset Acceptance must disclose to the consumer that it won?t sue on the debt and ? assuming it?s the case ? it has to tell people that it may report nonpayment to the credit bureaus.  Once it has made that disclosure, Asset Acceptance can?t sue, even if the consumer makes a partial payment that otherwise would restart the limitations clock.

The order also prohibits Asset Acceptance from making material misrepresentations about debts;  from ?parking? debt on a consumer?s credit report when it has failed to notify them in writing;  and from violating the FTC Act, the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in the ways alleged in the complaint.

If you are being sued, you will be notified by registered letter. If they were legit, they would not have hung up on you when you were asking questions! Sounds like you are being targeted by scammers! Don't let them bully or scare you into paying anything!!

Receiving several calls at my job, stating they are Nationwide Delivery services, and that I need to schedule a delivery. And give a false routing number. Isn't it against the law to misrepresent yourself and to also lie and use another company's name?

Yes these same QUACKS called  me earlier this month talking about I owe on a credit card from Delaware Bank. Now I did get this card back in 2007, but cancelled it the same day it came in the mail, because they said I had to pay this activation fee before I could use the card. There was NO WAY I was gonna pay damn near 100 dollars just to get a 300 dollar credit limit, and mind you, they lied on their site and to me, claiming I could use it right away. Well like I said, I called them and closed it. Cut up the card and threw the mess away. So I get a call, Oct. 2 of this year claiming that I owed $3600 because they claim I made a payment on the account in '08. And if I don't pay it off, then it could be considered as fraud. ???  I'm like how in the hell is that possible when it was supposed to been closed in '07. To make a long story short, the broad claims that they have tried to serve me papers by the county clerk, but if I don't want them to make a 3rd attempt, they would accept $1500 and call it a wrap. WTF??? So I told her to hold her breath and let me know what the outcome will be and was like "Oh yea, you won't be able to tell me s***, cause you'll be dead, and that's when you'll get ANYTHING from me"...NOT!!!!! So I warn you guys DO NOT apply for a card with First Continental Bank of Delaware, because they are FRAUD and so are their so-called collectors.

Same thing with me. Woman called from blocked number (which I NEVER answer). She left a message for someone with my first mane, but different last name. She said it was to "confirm"property info. Said it "it looked like" I owned property in the state i live in, but gave no other info but to tell me I have 24hrs to respond & gave a claim number. Well, I own property with my husband. We JUST refinanced, so i know exactly every legal aspect of my home, and I'm clean. I would say obviously she was talking about someone else, but she called my personal cell number that i NEVER put on any legal document, ever. I'm concerned now that scammers have found a number I thought was safe from this crap. I know beter than to be worried about any legal action. This is just annoying as s***!

Did you figure out if it was a scam? There was a woman who left a voice mail stating that she was Michelle from document verification for "Center & Associates" and was requesting that the person that the message was for needed to reply within 24 hours regarding the investigation against them. They left the same number: 877-926-4755.

Got a call from a 'restricted' number today, let it go to voicemail.  First part of the message is garbled.  " *garble* as a form of contact in reference to an open investigation against a "Blah (my real first name) Blarg (Not my real last name-former/current/future)" Now there's some questions in reference to the property address located on "Bleeper" Lane (the street I actually live on). Now understand you only have 24hrs to respond. And that's 24hrs before any further action can or will take place against you or the property address in question. You can contact the firm that's directly handling this case, which is Century & Associates. You can reach them at 1-877-926-4755. The claim number for your use is XX-XXXXX.  Bear in mind this is a time sensitive and legal matter for "Blah" (my real first name) "Blarg" (not my real last name- former/current/future).

Considering I'm up on all my payments on everything and haven't been involved in any vehicle problems/land disputes.. yeah.. SCAM!!

Haven't called them back.  We'll see if they call tomorrow.
Seems to tie in with the 877-926-4754 calls from "Century & Associates"
