Called our dispatcher and told him her husband just passed away and he  was a good friend of our boss Steve Garcia-She staed that MR. Garcia had said that it was ok to get the last of the shipping tape and that she was transferred to our dispatcher to get the shipping address-  he unkowngly gave her the address not knowing what it was for... BAM 3k dollar bill for 800 rolls of cheap packing tape-  That we don't even use-   we are not a shipping company.

I have received this same phone call 3 times over the last 12 months. Its hard to believe that people will sell their souls for a couple of boxes of tape.
I used to like the previous scam where they offered to send free coolers or gift baskets to your home address for placing a small business order (2 cases).
Always from an unknown number.

Yeah, our CEO will set up "special deals" for friends so the first time I got this call it sounded totally legit. We went for it, and I never thought twice about it. We got the tape, it was garbage, and I never even knew we were going to be invoiced for it. Got a call about a week ago. He cancer is in remission, so we can all rejoice. And because I was so nice to her she was going to send me a digital camera they found in an appliance warehouse her late husband owned. She then sprung that they found another pallet of tape and could I "find it in my heart" to take it also. When I declined she hung up right away. I still haven't heard when I'm getting my camera. Wish I had found this website earlier.

Almost fell for this same ploy.  Jokes on them, though, because I never opened the packages and "returned to sender."  However, i DID get someone on the phone at American Shipping; it was the same fellow that followed up on poor Mrs. Jacob's call.  I promptly told him that they were pathetic and that I was sending the packages back.  Be sure to fill out a complaint with the FTC (https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/) on "American Shipping."  You can give them their company phone number and address.  The more complaints filed against them, the better the chances of an investigation being opened.

Still going!!!! 3/7/2013 wow how can a scammer be smart enough to remember all those lies but not smart enough to keep track of who they have already called! This dumb @$$ is now blocking his phone # because of sites like this. Dr.'s son, closing out his business, 2" clear packing tape, bla bla bla.....

Same call here in KS. claiming to be from Topeka KS. What a sad way to make a living.... We did keep this pile of trash on the line for a while before he hung up so hopefully someone else was sparred from his wasted time;)

This sweet old lady is at it again.
I just got the same phone call.
This time the number came up all zero's.
And her name was Leah Goldberg.

The owner/user of this telephone number is engaged in telephone fraud with a story line developed around an elderly woman at a NY cancer center who is seeking assistance with the close-out of her dead husbands business affairs and wishes to sell cases of packing tape.  The story is completly fabricated and numerous companies and indidviduals have apparently victimized. Get more information by googling the telephone number and Mrs Jacobs.

I missed a call from this #. Has any one or this Website ever found out who they are?

The scam is alive and continuing.  My call yesterday was exactly like Brandi's from a Mrs. Anthony.  I told her to call me back this morning so I could check out our "tape" supply.    In the meantime I spoke with my boss--our President--who of course knew nothing about it.  Suspecting a scam I found this site last night and just astounded this has been going on for so long!  Sure enough this morning Mrs. Anthony calls me back from a blocked number.   The second I mentioned my boss the caller hung up-I barely got the words out.  Unbelieveable!

I just received a call from a Dr. Richard Green ( Supposedly the son of Leon Green) He had the same story regarding being referred by the president of our company after speaking with him. He said a Donna Parker from American Packaging and Shipping would be calling. I told (Dr. Green) that I would have to identify his identity and that's where he slipped up. He said the president of our company doesn't not know him (Dr. Richard Green) but he knew his dad (Leon Green) deceased. Question, how did he talk to the president of our company yet he doesn't know him? Hmmmmm Watch out for this scam....

I received this exact call Jeff. I talked to Bob and informed him that I needed a formal quote to validate pricing and quanity of this tape prior to shipping anything. Believe it or not, I never was able to contact him again. Then two weeks later a shipment comes in from a unknown carrier for 16 cases of tape with no packing slip or invoice.
    Just yesterday comes a packing slip from American Packing & Shipping. As I attempted to call several times unsuccesfully, I finally got thru to American Packing and talked to a Vanessa who insisted that I authorized this shipment. She ask for a brand name in order to authorize pick up of the tape. Like an idiot, I went out to our wharehouse to verify the brand name and have not beeen able to contact Vanessa again. I guess I'll wait to see if they (American Shipping) has the balls to take me to court!

Same story from Mrs Anthony. Had Bob Taylor (786-222-0311) from EZ Packaging call for shipping info but we cancelled.

Just had the exact same experience with Dr. Debra Stein - Glad we are not as dumb as she thinks:). Her script matched exactly to JEFF

Just got a call from a Dr. Debra Stein who named the president of our company and his father
(previously president) stating that they thought I could help her out of a jam since her husband just passed away 6 weeks ago and she is trying to close up his business so she can get back to her practice!  She stated they both had good things to say about me and that I wear alot hats in my job, which I do!  Ultimately, has packaging tape to sell at 2.49 a roll (she looked up what her husband was paying!)  and the Bob Marshall from American Packaging & Shipping will call to make arrangements.  I can't wait to talk to Bob!!!

This lady "Angela Preston" is one of the best at deceiving and lying to get you to buy junk.

That is incredible.  That was my conversation, of this morning, ver batum.  Fortunately, I spoke with my boss, before committing, and he confirmed that he did not know this woman or her husband.   What tipped me off was that she was only trying to recover her costs, so the tape was cheap at $ 2.50 a roll.  NOT CHEAP!  The whole highliters thing, too, when she said that she would throw them in for free.  Is this not fraud?  Yeah, she certainly had me going.   Yep, just waiting for the call from Valerie!!  My office manager is going to tee off on her!!!

I had a man call me telling me his father had passed away and he was a

Same Call as everyone above.  i talked to Valerie and told her i wanted nothing to do with this, told her it seems like a scam.  she said "oh my god" "i'll leave a note for mrs. jacobs" and hung up.  We have had several calls from them and she keeps asking for different people in the company.  We have actaully received the product (tape for shipping) and there were no problems, just a strange company.  The caller ID from Mrs Jacobs at the "Hospital" is the same ID that pops up for Valerie at "the office."

I received a very similar call from someone saying his name was Dr. Stanton and that he was a local doctor. He told me that his father had just passed away and he owned a local business that sold shipping supplies.  He told me that he would give me a great deal since he was just trying to get rid of his father's merchandise.  He told me that I would be receiving a call from Mrs Valerie Johnson.  The next day she called and I had a funny feeling so I asked for her number and told her I would call her back.  I went to google and entered the phone number she gave me and sure enough I came across this site.

Exact same call today. Mrs. Jacobs had me going for a while, until I did a search while on the call. Once I mentioned the info I discovered, she hung up.

Wed, Nov 11, 2009 - I received this exact same phone call.  I have to say that I am impressed with the flawless and unflappable Mrs. Jacobs.  Everything that everyone has written applied: cancer, dead husband is a friend of my boss, liquidating company.  I have yet to receive the call from Valerie - but my mind is swimming with the fun I'm gonna have with her.  Turn around shall be fair and fun play, on my end.

same call, selling same thing, shipping tape, telling the same story, but this time is the father passed away and he was my boss's best friend.
and the name given out is Dr. Rober Klein. watch out.

I received the same call from a Mrs. Jacobs, who could win an Oscar for her performance, last week stating a similar story to those above.  This is a disgusting scam and a poorly planned one at that.  They ship you the product with a invoice attached then you pay for it.  Most scammers would require payment before shipping.  Watch out for this one.

the 877 944 2843 phone # was the # valerie johnson asked me to call her back on (today, 10/12), when Mrs Jacobs originally called - she went thru our phone system and a caller ID did not come up for her.

(PS -  that Mrs Jacobs lady is gooooood! she ended the call in tears! she had me give my direct dial to her "nurse". i am truly flabbergasted that i fell for this one!)

i got the SAME CALL!
i received the call on 10/8/09 at approx 10:45a. i have to say - Mrs Jacobs had me by the heart strings. she was the sweetest little old jewish lady, ever. she told me she was in sloan kettering hospital in NYC and she was tying up some loose ends from her husband's death. apparently he had died 6 wks earlier (from cancer) and he owned a school supply warehouse that had some packing tape left over. she also told me that my boss told her to call me. she knew my boss' last name and my last name. and she said that she was my boss' friend's mom.
she told me her husband's name was Fred Jacobs and that he played for the Cleveland Browns many years ago (i googled that and came up with nothing).
she also told me the 5 things she wanted to do/eat before she died: 1) eat at tavern on the green, 2) eat a piece of ray's pizza, 3) eat a philly cheese sandwich, 4) a cheese danish & 5) a piece of cheesecake.
this is the best scam, ever. i think i may call american packaging and shipping and let them know what's up.
a woman, Valerie Johnson,  called me today (10/12) to say she was following up on my talk with Mrs Jacobs and that she was with the liquidators.
what an unbelievable scam - using the guise of a sick old lady to sell tape. is the recession really that bad?!

I received a call from Mrs. Jacobs 9/15/09 @ 2:31 p.m. from an unknown name and private number.  She informed me that my boss had given her my name specifically.  She said that she was in a NY Cancer Center and her husband and my boss were close friends.  She was closing her business and wished to send me some boxes of packaging tape and highlighters that she was going to get rid of.  She informed me that American Packaging & Shipping was to call me and get shipping information to ship the packaging tape and highlighters to me.  American Packaging & Shipping called on 9/16/09 @ 3:44 p.m., 9/18/09 @ 3:19 p.m. & 9/21/09 @ 3:30 p.m. to get the shipping information from me.  I spoke with my boss, who informed me that he didn't give my name to anyone and that this was a scam.  I am hoping to report this so that other businesses will not go through the same thing
