Great info--thanks again!
Too bad I happen to be silly and absent-minded....LOL.

Put a bunch of evidence together. There was enough mentions of Crossfire with this number throughout the web. Lots of mentions of this number and people's hometown newspapers. Same number called us and it was our "hometown" newspaper. Crossfire is the largest telemarketer for newspapers. Crossfire is based in Rancho Cucamonga. Etc... Not an eyewitness to the crime but good enough circumstantial evidence for me. http://www.crossfire1.com/newspaper.html Note they have a toll-free number that on off-business hours goes to "Mickey's" voice mail. I've heard of "absent-minded" people calling toll-free voice mails and forgetting what they were doing and leaving the phone next to a radio that keeps the message, and thus the toll-free call, going, which unfortunately might rack up some charges for the company that has that toll-free number. Silly absent-minded people....

It's a national newspaper subscription company trying to get you
to subscribe to your local newspaper.
The caller ID states UNKNOWN NAME, and the phone number shown
(877-944-8544) is a dead number.
When they call, you answer, and they don't speak--it's called
"war dialing."
Whenever you folks get calls from this number--PLEASE FILE AN
FCC COMPLAINT! If you don't--they will not be stopped.
Just go to the FCC Don't Call website, register your phone
numbers on the national list if you haven't yet, then report
them EVERY time they call you.
Another tip--keep a log of each time they call noting the date
and time. If you have to file repeat complaints--you can
reference the previous calls.
The FCC Don't Call Registry website is here:
http://www.fcc.gov/complaints
Select: Telemarketing calls (including Do-Not-Call) and
prerecorded messages received on a wired phone
On the next page, select: Abandoned Calls' ('Silent Calls,'
'Dead Air Calls' from a telemarketer) and 'War Dialing' received
on your residential or business telephone
Then, select the link: Complete the form and fill out the info.
Everyone who receives calls from this number MUST join together
to stop these idiots!
UPDATED INFO from a friend on another forum:
From what I can find out, Crossfire Marketing in Rancho
Cucamonga is responsible for this. If you call their toll-free
line you get a voicemail for a "Mickey Gross". A search of
California business licenses reveals that the agent for
Crossfire is a Stephen Rudnicki. A little further digging gets
business associates of Stephen Rudnicki and Crossfire, one of
which is a Michael Gross. A number for Michael Gross in Rancho
Cucamonga is 909-483-9966. I'm sure he'd love to hear from his
fans.

Great info--thanks for sharing!
How did you end up with those names and organization? I know you did some Google research, but what led you to that company name and those individual's names? When researching the phone number, I never found anything beyond these "Who Calls Me" websites.
I'd love to read how you managed to get this info! Besides my daily FCC complaint filing--I'm going to apply my own pressure now.

Mallory & others--it's a national newspaper subscription telemarketing firm.
They call "representing" your local newspaper with subscription discounts and try to get you signed up.
As always, the best advice is to get on the FCC Don't Call register. If they call again, tell them you're on the list and they will stop calling.
It's great to have websites like this to find out who's calling you, but I just can't believe people take the time to come here and post that they have no idea who's calling from these numbers.
A quick Google search of the numbers reveal full details--please use it!
It takes less time than coming here all aloof and dumbfounded.

Got a call from this number. It was the Bergen Record in NJ. So based on the other feedback I assume this is a company that solicits newspaper subscriptions for newspapers around the country. Hope this helps.

I've been receiving calls from this number several times a day for the past few days. After reading the posts here I called the number back and it was some publishing group related to my local newspaper. I asked them to put me on their do not call list and they said they'd take care of it. Keeping my fingers crossed that this will stop further calls.

This # called & then left a voicemail of a few seconds of silence. Tried calling back the # but the business is not identified and the message just says that they're helping others. After waiting for a few minutes through terrible music, I hung up.
Reported to DONOTCALL.

Call them back, wait til you get an answer...you have to get an answer from them. It may take a few trys, but if you call them back, eventually you get them. I got them first try, told them I want off the list, and the guy took care of it...hopefully it works for you..and me for that matter
| Lynne 2011-06-06 21:04:57 Unknown |
Still don't know who they are. Just said "hello", but they did remove my number. Even if you are on the "Do Not Call" list, it is a good idea to update it - especially if it is your cell like mine!!!!!
